Porgies Hotdog and Soda Shoppe

Wow. I don't even know where to start. Everything was next level delicious. My friend & I drove 1.5hrs to try this place out finally. After our first couple bites my friend said she would drive 5hrs LoL It was exactly what we expected, plus more! The owners were so friendly & welcoming. The hot dogs are made in house & smoked. There's a whole process. Their TikTok page shows how they're made & it's pretty awesome. Definitely recommend 100/10. The menu has a lot to choose from & has something for everyone. Oh & they have T-shirts for sale. I bought a pack of 6 Porgie's hotdogs to cook at another time. They were sealed perfectly. They happily suggested how to cook them & how long they'd last in the refrigerator vs. freezer. We were sure to get one of Porgie's shirts to represent bc this place is special. The place has a down home feel & the bathrooms have a fun theme.

We drove about an hour and a half just to try this place, and honestly it's probably worth an additional hours drive to eat here. The food is like the best, most thoughtful, high quality fair food you e ever had. They are so innovative in how they use the foods, they do best, together. It's a family run restaurant, and you can tell. Really nice staff and the perfect cafe atmosphere. If you're a fan of the tv show Friends, then you are gonna love the bathroom. Part of me wishes this place was closer, but honestly this place is so good that you really should have to work for it.

Good, affordable spot next to Nick's Boat Dock at Rough River Lake. Enjoyed the jalapeño popper dog and the fried banana bites. Prices are ~$8 for a combo which includes a side and a drink.

Go here for the best hotdogs you can find in Kentucky. We tried the sweet heat, steakhouse and pulled pork bbq hotdogs. Delicious! They make their hotdogs in house. We also grabbed the egg roll of the week which happens to be a dessert egg roll called Red, White and blue. It was a lot like a cheese blitz with strawberry and blueberry flavoring in cream cheese. I want to go back and try all their different specialty hotdogs.

Porgies is a gem in McDaniels - wonderful service, super friendly staff, DELICIOUS hot dogs. My wife and I ordered the family meal of 13 "slider size" specialty hot dogs with all sorts of flavors. It was too much food, obviously, but gave us a great sampling of what Porgies has to offer (and snacks for later!). There's something for everyone here, from a surprisingly balanced and delicious PB&J dog to the perfectly named Jalapeño Popper dog (it was uncanny). Of the eight flavors of specialty dog we tried, the only one I wasn't a huge fan of was the King (although that's my own fault for not liking bananas). I appreciate what Porgies is out here doing, and would highly recommend giving them a visit if you're in the area and looking for some good food.

Okay, my wife and I decided that we would travel through the area and try new places. Either we would go as a couple or as a family. Today we head an hour and half from our home to try this place. Now if you want fancy service, this isn't for you. If you want a fast food, keep moving. If you want something different and very tasty worth a hour plus drive, then you have it.First it must be noted that they make their very own dogs. My oldest wasn't sure she would any of the specialty dogs, so she got a plain dog. To me she committed a sin by putting ketchup on it, but what I had, who am I to judge. I tried it and liked the overall taste. By itself, I could be very happy like it is. She also got the Jalepeno dog.Now my youngest got the Nacho Dog and Pizza dog. With tater tots. My wife and I did the there mini combo.I got the King, The PB &J, and the Jalepeno dogs with fries. My wife had The nacho dog, sweet heat, and spicy Hawaiian. Check out the menu on what each of these are. We all loved this place. Now let me tell you my favorite. I be lying if I said the were all great, but only a little. We all had a taste of each others, but who would think that my favorite was the P B and J. It was an experience that I may try at home. A close second was Elvis and the spicy Hawaiian. This was worth the drive and soon my wife may come for ourselves.Sorry no photos this time.

Ok, I'm not someone that traditionally eats hotdogs, but this place is incredible. They have an thoughtful and delicious menu of hot dogs and their pulled pork is good as well. They also do daily specials including additional hotdogs or even tacos. I'll say it again, this place is awesome. If you're in the Rough River area and especially if you're near Nicks or Axtel/Laurel Branch/ Northfork area, you owe it to yourself to drop in. My favorite is the Jefe, but I've not had them all.

If you all haven't visited Porgies yet then you are missing out!! To start, the menu is so creative and fun! The owners really try to be unique and different and that they are! These homemade hot dogs and insane toppings will have you dying to come back just to try the other flavors!! The owners and staff are so nice! They make the restaurant have a great, welcoming atmosphere that seems so inviting! The house made sodas are so cool! I definitely recommend the root beer float to have after your meal too! YUM!! Go check them out!!

The food was amazing and the hospitality was even better! Definitely worth the drive. I highly recommend the Chicago and jalapeño popper dogs!!
