I went here the first time today, looking for a drink. I was surprised to find a busy diner. I had the open faced roast beef with potatoes and green beans. It was very good, the green beans especially were on a par with my grandmothers. My daughter works at UK and didn't know about it, I have a feeling she and coworkers will be new customers. Highly recommend.

Affectionately known (at least around the law school) as Dirty Phil's, this little hole in the wall has dingy, outdated decor. But the food is great if you want a quick, diner-style, home-cooked meal!I can't even count the grilled cheeses and fries that I ate here during law school. It only really loses a star because I always forget that the fries have zero flavor if you forget to salt them or grab some ketchup packets. Oh, the misery of plain, unsalted fries! How could I have forgotten the salt?Still, some small part of my eventual coronary will be due to Phil's and it holds a special place in my heart as a result. For the uninitiated: order at the counter in the small dining area at the very rear of the restaurant. Then wait for your food to be called out. Take it to the register in the middle of the store, tell the cashier what you got and pay. (Strange to encounter a "fast food" place where you pay after you get your food, but that's the type of old school joint that is Phil's.)Two tips: try the fried bologna sandwich, and don't call it Dirty Phil's while you're inside! (That's rude, even if that's how everyone knows the place.)

Coolest retro place in Kentucky. Like stepping back I to the early 60s. Dingy and dark but the food is the best near the University. Everything is home made. The owner Gordon Bently makes dishes at night. The man doesn't sleep! You can knock on the back door at 2am and he might wait on you. Gordon loves Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart. He knows ALL the old music also an electronics expert ask him anything. Cat fish is legendary but try the home made meat loaf or Philly Gumbo over rice. Old fashioned hang out. Just sit there and have a tall boy Budwiser. The conversations there are lively. Ignore the old decor.

I've been here many times over the years. My go-to is always the cheeseburger fries and coleslaw. I especially recommend the coleslaw. It's different ,try it. They're reasonably priced and old school. Do people still say old school? I don't know. They're also basically a convenient mart that's near campus. So, you can get anything else there you might want from cigarettes to a roll of toilet paper. This place is from another era and deserves support. They probably don't even know about Yelp.

Doesn't look the best but has some great food and very nice people. The burgers are good and so are the sides.

I didn't even go to this place but was approached by an employee calling me a little girl on multiple occasions with my back turned to him. I left the area on foot very quickly but upon return he approached me and harassed me for $1 when I wasn't even parked for 30 seconds. I do have my family who was on the phone with me at the time who were also concerned for my safety with how he was approaching me. If you value your personal safely I would not go here.
