This place was excellent. Apparently reservations are hard to score, but my friend got one about 3 weeks ago, for 3:00 p.m. today, so we did a late lunch/early dinner here with our husbands - we are in town visiting from Detroit. There are a few standalone tables and a few bourbon barrels that you can sit in! We had one of the barrels. We started off with the boudin balls which were excellent, although you only get three pre-order so we ordered two of them for the four of us. I was waffling between the ham sandwich and the steak frites for lunch but I got the steak and did not regret it, it was delicious as was the horseradish dipping sauce for the potatoes. My husband got the lamb gumbo and also really enjoyed it. All of our drinks were good as well, and waitservice was friendly. They'll start you off with some boiled peanuts which was also interesting, the only time I've had that was during a work trip in Georgia.Overall I would definitely come back here as everything was super tasty.

A bit overrated and overpriced. The "delta wet salad" is literally romaine drenched (literally dripping) in oil and vinegar with 4 cherry tomatoes. The catfish nuggets are (well) fried catfish covered in sweet and sour sauce. The best part of the dish were the boudin balls and the crab gemmeli - I would come back for the gemmeli alone. The gumbo was basically a pozole and the only gumbo thing about it was the sausage. We ordered a side of rice to balance all the flavors and were surprised to learn a small portion of plain white rice was $10!! ... it was honestly such a disappointment. Drinks were watered down as well. No reservation needed if you're ok dining at the bar. But the service may be better at a table.

What a spot! From the dusty bourbon case to the barrel shaped booths, this restaurant has KY vibes through and through. When looking over the menu though, you'll notice NOLA prominently on display, and they might have you confused until you consider the name of this spot. Yep. It's NORTH of BOURBON STREET! How fun!The service is attentive and informed. There are so many great items to choose from here that this really came in clutch. The menu has NOLA and southern classics done in an elevated, yet traditional fashion, which fits perfectly here. Our server accurately and passionately described the dishes and helped me make a great choice in the country ham and cheese sandwich with a cup of gumbo and side of turnip hash. If you've never had REAL country ham, think of it as the prosciutto of America. These hams are hung and aged throughout the south, and each location gives them a unique character and flavor. This paired up so well with the slightly sweet and buttery bread, and the aged Gruyère cheese. I opted for the patty melt plus up, and this became a southern bacon cheeseburger of sorts, but I wouldn't advise going this route because the patty took away from the sandwich in my opinion. This was the only place our server led me wrong with her descriptions. When I asked for my burger medium rare she said they couldn't do temp because these were thin smash burger style. That turned out not to be accurate and I had a good sized well done burger on my sandwich, and it really did detract from the elegant simplicity of the sandwich. The turnip hash was a great side and totally unexpected. Baby turnips were halved and sautéed in butter and chunks of bacon, greens still on top. When I heard hash I expected small pieces honestly, but I wasn't mad about this one.Oh and the gumbo with potato salad? Yes. You read that right. I'd never have imagined it but it worked really well. The mayo smoothed out the richness of the gumbo and cooled it off perfectly in the season. All in all a fabulous lunch! OH! Don't skip the potato wedges!

What a great place! I love the blend of Louisville & Louisiana...super unique & delicious. The cocktails are the best, my fave is the NOB Old Fashion. My husband and I enjoyed raw & baked oysters, the chopped salad, peppered catfish nuggets, and for dessert the sweet potato cala. EVERYTHING was outstanding. This restaurant was named to the NY Times Top 50 restaurants in 2024. Definitely one of the best places to eat in Louisville.

I cannot say enough good things about this place! The atmosphere is amazing. It is small, warm, and comforting. The welcome was amazing, the service was outstanding, and the food was spectacular! There are so many good things on the menu that you will want to order at all. Even the nonalcoholic cocktails are better than you would ever expect if you stop by here you will not regret it.

We came with a group of 6! Let's start with the ambiance, one cool place! Located in Germantown, Louisville, we had doubts until we saw the entrance. We could tell this place was happening! The service and staff were phenomenal. Answered all of our questions, made recommendations, and were respectful and most accommodating. We ordered several pours of bourbon and were delighted with much of the selection. We tried several cocktails: Boulevardaire, Proceed with Caution, Make it Rain, Where there's smoke there's Fire, Shelby Drink your Juice, Buttered Old Fashioned, NOB, Rose colored glasses. All were fabulous! The food is served family style. We had oysters, crab gemelli, crab rice dressing, pear salad, peppered catfish nuggets, and Mac and cheese. Dessert finished the meal with cheesecake, sweet potato cala, and plantains foster. We left no food on any of these plates! The sweet potato cala was the surprise favorite!Do not pass this place up! You even get to sit in an actual barrel to enjoy your meal.

Great new place in Germantown! It's small, so plan ahead and reserve on Open Table. Can sit at the bar without a reservation, but the bar got packed by 6PM on a Friday. Really cute decor with cask frames around some booths. Super nice staff. Tons of bourbon choices. We shared a nice pork chop, a salad and a curious spaetzle & artichoke side dish. Bathrooms were clean. Only suggestion is better red wine choices.

Fantastic service, amazing food, great whiskey selection, decent prices for the most part. I had what I can only describe as the second best pork chop of my life. The vibe is chill but I was at the bar. You probably want a reservation!

They weren't busy at all, and we're here during happy hours. What an amazing atmosphere! The booths are in giant Bourbon barrel's, and then one wall is a, it looks like a wall of bourbon. Very Kentucky I'm guessing. They have very fun serving vessels and glasses. It's like they have old Timey bourbon bottles without labels to serve things like water, and the beverage cups, not the water cups, or shaped almost like 90% of a soda can, except made out of glass. It's a fun effect. It's not a huge place, it's like a neighborhood secret almost. It could almost be your grandma's restaurant. But only if your grandma was a really good cook and loved bourbon. They seated us immediately, they are kid friendly. We got some of their root beer on tap, and it is phenomenal. I could win friends and influence people with the root beer alone. They strongly recommend Boudin balls and catfish nuggets. I also ordered some charcuterie and some potato wedges with jalapeño dukes mayo. They brought out boiled peanuts as a "lagniappe". I don't know what that is, but the boiled peanuts were pretty good. I've never had them before. They were warm and spicy. They were soft but had a little bit of an al dente, a little bit of a bite. They don't taste like normal peanuts, they tasted and felt a bit more like a cooked water chestnut. Very savory. It was almost like it wasn't peanuts, but I can clearly see it is. It was amazing. The Boudin balls come with this white sauce that is like a delicious horseradish mayo. I've never had anything like it, but they do it very well. They have it garnished with diced scallions and house pickles.Their food is truly amazing. The catfish was warm, well seasoned, exactly right cooked. The charcuterie could've used more bread, and that's nearly the opposite complaint when would ever expect. It had so much of the stuff that you put on top that you could meet her on any one of them and do well. How sweet apple butter. Pecans, housemaid spicy mustard, delicious. The service is exceptional. They are courteous, attentive, and Quick. They know their menu very well. This place alone makes me wish I lived in Kentucky. This is a very nice little place. For dessert we ordered their cheesecake, which is housemaid as well. We also ordered A different dessert, Cala, is a west African desert dish. The cheesecake was very well done. It had a good balance between the flavor of the cheesecake and the fruit, not an overwhelming amount on either of those. The cheesecake itself was very rich. It's one of the better cheesecakes I've ever eaten. I have never tasted anything like tthat Cala. It's sweet potato, I can't recognize the spices but they are delicious. Normally I can recognize all the spices. I taste a little bit like pumpkin, like somebody wave a container of pumpkin spice over it. It has a very light custard cream sauce. My youngest says "it's supa gweat". Next one up says "I give the cheesecake 20 stars", and that's out of five so it's pretty darn good. My second oldest says "the food is some of the best food I've ever tasted, and just because of that food I want to move to Kentucky now". My oldest says " The cheesecake is amazing", emphasis on is.

Fun and delicious happy hour at North of Bourbon. We walked in and got a seat at the bar. If you want a table, be sure to make a reservation! Very cool bourbon barrel style booths available. We shared the peppered catfish nuggets. They were very good. Had a couple drinks. Great bourbon selection! Glad we stopped in.
