We selected this campground since it was in the center of the Bourbon Trail. We love to stay at state campgrounds BUT we were surprised by its condition. No one greets you when checking in. You just have to find your spot. The sites are very close together. The bathrooms are outdated, dark, and in need of repair. Our site was littered with cigarette butts. This campground needs some serious TLC to be ranked as one of the top five state campgrounds. The one good thing is that the water in the showers was hot!

Too SMALL!!!! We stayed at site 17 where there wasn't enough room on the site to park our car and have a camp fire at the same time. And the site my son and his family stayed on was even worse. Too DIRTY!! the bath house was disgusting, doors don't lock and just old and gross. Nice and close to Bardstown.

This is a hard post to write because it is such an odd mix of things. We camped here 3 nights and had a huge issue with our sites that we reserved. Site 29 is a nightmare to get a camper in. There is a drop off and alot of trees. It is doable but takes a lot of navigation and tree spotters. However we decided not to use it because if someone took the lot across the narrow road it would be a nightmare to get out. So we switched sites. The problem with that was not being able to get ahold of anyone who could switch our sites and the worry of moving and taking a site that is reserved is scary. So we changed our reservations to confirm we could have the sites. That is the ONLY way to do anything if an attendant isn't here. And we only saw one in 3 days for a few hours. Most of the lots are extreme grade so be aware. Also take extra cord and hoses. Not many sites have water or electric within 25 feet from your camper. Some of the electric and hose hookups are running near fire pits or weird places. They are shared also with the camper next to you. We were lucky to be camping with another couple so we could use their fire pit instead of ours which was littered with both hoses and cords. We saw many people come in and laugh about how the site was deceiving online with what you could fit. Especially with all the trees and drop offs. So they switched and I guess one got mad and just left.33-28 have the steepest dropoffs near the back of the pad. 29 looks long enough to get a camper in but it is tricky with trees and a dropoff before the pad. This is one we originally had. 28 is just weird with a steep dropoff and sometimes water in the creek that you run electric through. 31 & 36 have the fire pit near the electric and water. But 36 is pull through. 3 is pull through and does not share water or electric but is on the corner. It sounds like a lot of complaining so 4 stars? Well it's nice once you find a spot. Bathrooms are clean and everyone camping here is super friendly. We would come back but we are prepared now and know what sites to pick for next trip. So, yes we would come back. But if you would have asked us the 1st night we would have told you we would never come back because it was hard to get it all straightened out. Which is why I am writing this long review. So ya'all know what to be prepared for.

Small little campground. Not the best at all for tent camping but it got the job done. The campsites are tiny and there are tree roots. The bathroom only had two showers but I never had a problem or had to wait. The camp hosts were nice and friendly and the camp location was great.

We stayed here one night in our Winnebago View. We got site #1 "my most level site", and it was pretty level. We had to pull in rather than back in, as the electric and water were in shared posts. Two hoses were needed to reach our water inlet and the power chord barely made it. The campground is very pretty with tall trees and shaded sites. The wash house is as described by others, tired, not really dirty, but not really clean, with an overpowering smell of scented urinal blocks. I normally like to take advantage of shower house, but opted to use our tiny RV shower instead. The staff lady was super friendly and helpful. We would stay here again

My favorite Kentucky State Park campground thus far. My review will be based on the campground though, we didn't do anything else at the actual park or golf course. It is close to downtown but this campground isn't lacking in trees, it has the normal rustic, campground atmosphere.A few things to notate that could potentially cause issues... -The campground office closes at 5pm. We arrived at 6ish on a Friday. We drove around to the office area of the golf course and a man just said "set up wherever you want to, as long as it doesn't have a reserved sign, and then pay in the morning". So we did just that, set everything up to stay the weekend. The next morning there was a reserved sign with someone elses name on it posted at our site. They apparently had reserved it online for Saturday and Sunday. So we had to pack everything up and move to a different site. You can reserve online for an extra $7.50. The next time, we will either pay that extra fee and go that route or attempt to call and book it that way. We won't try it the same way again. It was really our fault, so we can't knock them for it. Just know that's how it works.-There aren't sidewalks outside of the campground, so it's not ideal to walk to anything surrounding the area. Be prepared to drive, even though the distance between the camp ground and attractions seem walkable, while researching things. Again, not the campgrounds fault. -Heaven Hill and Willett Distilleries are the closest distilleries. We walked to Heaven Hill from the campground, but I wouldn't' recommend walking it to anyone, because it really wasn't safe due to the lack of sidewalk.-The electrical hookup boxes are shared between two sites. So make sure that you have the proper voltage extension cord, or else you will blow a breaker. The boxes are also a bit far from the site pad, so you will have to have a long extension cord. It's not ideal, but we knew that after researching this campground.I loved the smallness of the campground. There are only around 39 sites. Because there is so many attractions in the area, many of the people staying at the campground left during the day, so it was quiet during the day when we practically had the campground to our selves. There is only one shower house, and it only has two showers in the ladies shower house, and the water was hot. It was the cleanest that I've witnessed in a state park. I think that's probably because most of the RVs have their own bathroom, so the bathhouse here doesn't get used much. There is so many places to dine within close proximity, that you don't have to pack or plan bringing any food. There is a restaurant almost directly across the street from the campground. It's called Roby's Caddy Shack, and I'd recommend it.

Absolutely delightful! The song is so beautiful and even more fun when sung to you in the house. We went at Christmas and the decorations were so interesting it was like a mini tour within a tour. The two guides were hilarious and answered all questions. Only wish I had more time inside the house! I can't wait to go back when they get the money to finish the third floor :)

This park offers up pretty much everything you could want, with the exception of cabins or rooms for rent. The campgrounds have both primitive and paved camping spots with hookups for campers. Next to the campgrounds is the 18 hole golf course. The green fees are reasonable and the course is always in great condition. The course is challenging enough to keep things interesting, but not so hard so as to make you want to give up the game forever. The park also has a playground across the road from the campground and a pavilion that gets used for family reunions or other types of picnic gatherings. At the other side of the park you will find the Visitor Center and the home itself. The grounds offer up really nice gardens, a home that has inspired a state song, a state quarter, and a postage stamp, and a gift shop with Kentucky crafts. The home has gone through a recent renovation and looks really great inside, and with Christmas coming up it's always decorated to the nines. The park also has space for rent for receptions and meetings and the staff always does a great job getting things ready and making your event special. I should know since my own wedding reception is being held there.

Nice place to camp if you have a small camper. Very clean and well taken care of. It is very convenient if you are visiting the distilleries on the Bourbon Trail. The Historic area and downtown are a must see, especially the soda fountain at the old drugstore on the square. And don't forget to see My Old Kentucky Home. Well worth the price of admission.

The sites may be uneven and a bit close, but the tree cover is a lifesaver in the summer. The golf course is gorgeous and the local attractions are top notch. Our family was delighted that the bathrooms were air conditioned, lol.
