I was in town, and thought I'd try to get something different before heading back to boring old Madison county. I went in around lunch and it was a bit chaotic and unorganized people standing around everywhere, had no idea where the line started, where to order and only saw a couple of people working before I gave up and just went to Jersey Mike's. Obviously popular but some customers like myself may believe, if just trying to order is complicated, most likely the owner is, and complicated people make complicated food which can cause complicated problems and I have enough of those..

One thing that Lexington doesn't have enough of, is awesome food trucks. So when I discover one, I immediately have to share about it. This evening was the season kickoff of The Kentucky Horse Park Run Walk and Mr. Gyros (pronounced sort of like year row) food truck was there. There was plenty of other things on the menu to try other than the gyro, but I just may never get anything other than the gyro again. As a matter of fact, I don't think I'll ever have another gyro that good! The pita was soft and just the perfectly leavened. I'm not usually a tomato fan, but these seemed homegrown, not like what I'm getting from the grocery lately. The meat portion of the chicken is a lot more than lamb, but both were the same price, $8 each. I haven't found a food truck list for the KHP Run Walk season, but I hope it includes Mr. Gyros again... next week? I did look up the Facebook page and found the schedule, where they will be throughout the week. This week, maybe I'll be seeing Mr. Gyros again this week.

I recently attended the Fall Arts Festival at Josephine Sculpture Park in Frankfort, and Mr. Gyros was one of the food trucks catering the event. Gyros are one of my all-time favorite food items, but I was looking for something low-calorie for lunch, so I decided to show restraint and order a Greek salad. It was okay. The ingredients were obviously fresh - the cashier informed me with pride that the lettuce is chopped to order as she handed it over. However, I felt that for what I got, $8 (plus tax and tip) was pretty steep. It was essentially iceberg lettuce, a slice of tomato cut into four pieces, feta cheese crumbles, a handful of rather tasteless olive slivers, and some vinaigrette. There were croutons on the picture on the side of the truck, but not in my salad. Not a huge deal, but worth noting.I was looking for something light, but I didn't expect to still be hungry afterwards. My friend, a vegetarian, said the same thing about her veggie gyro. I definitely regretted not adding chicken or lamb to my salad for an extra $2.Lesson learned: stick to the gyros (with meat) when ordering from a business called Mr. Gyros.

Overall, a little pricey for what it is. Not a lot of meat on the gyro. Very soft pita. Great French fries, but the gyro was not the star. Prepackaged baklava. Probably won't go back but the meal was not awful. I was hoping it would be better.

My favorite food truck in Lexington, and they've been around many years. Their Gyros are always so fresh, hot and delicious. Tender meat, really fresh letter/tomato/onion, and yummy taziki sauce. Plus they have really good burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, etc. for those that don't go for Mediterranean. Bulus and Rula are always so friendly and it's been fun watching their kids grow up and help out in the truck. My husband and I both agree on their food (delicious) and that's not often! Can't wait for festival season to munch on chicken gyros again.
