This is a fantastic venue. Lexington parks and Rec does a great job scheduling free concerts and other events here. My family loves to bring a picnic, sit on the lawn and listen to the many bands, be they jazz, bluegrass or rock.

Talk about a good time! You can't beat free live music on Thursday evenings at the Moondance Amphitheater! We saw Hammertowne, and it was an outstanding performance. Though there's no charge, you can support the bands by purchasing their merchandise while you're there. It's a great venue with plenty of parking and lots of space on the green for your lawn chairs and blankets. The area is terraced ensuring that every seat is a good one. Bonus: nice bathroom facilities, no port-a-potties!You can bring your own food or order from a rotating selection of food trucks, as well as libations. So much fun and I can't wait to return!t

It's totally summertime when the music starts at Moondance. Free concerts all summer! Tuesday is jazz, Thursday is Bluegrass and Friday is Summer in Suburbia (rock/pop). Usually food trucks, Sav's chill (ice cream) and West Sixth are pretty regular. It's a lovely location restrooms on site. Bring your chairs, blankets and enjoy!!

Moondance theater has so much to offer this summer, although the rain had kept many of the programs from keeping to their original schedule there have been a free concerts on Monday, Tuesday, Friday nights. In terms of outdoor amphitheaters, it is one of the best. There are clean bathrooms and you can see because of the round and tiered seating. For the month of July, Summerfest has outdoor theatre Thursday-Sunday. Bring a blanket, basket, and a bottle of wine or a fresh brew with a group of four friends on a blanket seat for $40. In 2014, little shop of horrors was out of this world, and was worth way more than the $10 tickets per person. Each summer, thy do one Shakespeare and one traditional play. For someone who is not drama-literate, the Shakespeare is a little more difficult to follow. The free Friday Concerts are also great with a blanket and food. The vibe is low-key and family friendly.

The parking is in the back but its also allowed along the street in the front. Restrooms are clean but not air conditioned and have paper towels, not air-dryers. If you can't walk up/down a handful of steps use the back-entrance for accessibility. There really isn't a "bad" seat in the theater. You pay by what section you sit in but where in that section is first come, first serve. You can pay to sit in an actual chair in the front, bring a blanket to sit in the middle area behind those chairs or if you choose to sit on the left/right sides, you bring your own chair. If you're at an event that finds you peckish, you are allowed to bring your own beverages (yes, wine etc.) and picnic meals. Concessions are sometimes present selling bottles of water and small bags of chips. I've even seen a food-truck park out back sometimes. Depends on availability. The Kentucky Conservatory Theater hosts Summerfest here (this is the "troupe" that ran The Shakespeare Festival at the Arboretum years ago). The site is a great venue for many entertainment groups such as KCT. You can visit their webpage to find out upcoming bookings and to even book it yourself if you're the one looking for a great space for an event!Enjoy the shows!
