Food was delicious and fresh. The restaurant is at the back of the Supermercado(supermarket) so not much ambiance but the food made up for it! We had the tacos, a Gordita and rice and beans. Tacos came with limes, radishes and a fried pepper. Asked for cilantro and onions and was given a large portion for our meal. Pollo (chicken) Gordita was hot and freshly made, and the seasoning was perfect. A great find!

I'd like to start 2020 off with a review of a restaurant I knew existed, had been near countless times, but had never taken the opportunity to eat at. And I am now kicking myself in the pants for taking so long.Mi Preferida Restuarante is tucked away in the back of the Mi Preferida Supermercado. We've been into the store countless time because it's relatively close to home and they have some items we can only find there (Jalapeño Tostada shells!) I'd noticed the taqueria in the back but never really gave it much thought because sometimes Jim can be pretty narrowly focused and I didn't walk in to eat, I walked in to buy.On a recent Friday we stopped in to get a couple things (you guessed it, Jalapeño Tostada shells) and we hadn't decided where we were going to have dinner yet. When we walked in the door I noticed the arched doorway in the back and said to wifey "Wifey. What do you think about eating dinner here?". She said "Why not! We haven't eaten here before")Why we waited so long I don't know, but now I'm kicking myself for it.Mi Preferida isn't big on decor, being nestled in the back of a grocery store, but it's all about the food, and the food is amazingly authentic and amazingly awesome. And they have glass bottle beverages. Pepsi in a glass bottle is FAR superior to the stuff you get in cans and plastic bottles these days. I love the complete transparency of this restaurant. You can see the entirety of the operation when you walk up to the counter. The food prep area, the grills, the steam tables. It's all there in plain site, so there's no mystery about what you're getting and how it's being prepared. And the food is AB-so-lutely genuine and delicious. So it's not the fanciest Mexican restaurant in town, but it is some of the most authentic, genuine Mexican you'll find in town.

This is yet another taqueria hidden inside of a mercado. This one is located on the corner of Bardstown and Watterson trail. It is a fairly run down looking strip mall that is home to a gun shop and also Dakshin Indian restaurant. The taqueria is quite small. Maybe five tables. The people running the place are very friendly and speak perfect English.I've had the tacos and these alone would keep me coming back. The meats are spiced well and the tacos are served with radish slices and blistered jalapenos. My last visit I opted for a burrito. Chorizo with everything. This was the best chorizo burrito I've had in Louisville.( sorry La Taqueria Mexicana) First off this burrito is huge. That is not really a selling point for me. I just want a good burrito. Everything in this burrito is good one its own. The chorizo is spicy and loaded with garlic. The beans and rice I would enjoy by themselves with some hot sauce. Round it out with lettuce, crema and queso it is a delight. The salsas in the squeeze bottles are definitely a compliment. I usually go with the creamy green. The green here is great but the red is really great. It is the same creamy consistency as the green but with a little extra heat.Don't let the looks of the area deter you. This spot is definitely worth checking out. Oh yeah, the tacos are $2 and the burrito was $6.50.

If you want air conditioning and plenty of seats, skip Las Gorditas out front and come inside to the back of mi Preferida supermarket for some delicious tacos, burritos and ceviche for cheap. For a little kick, add some sauce from the bottles on the table. The fish ceviche tostadas are fresh and delicious. Their burritos are also very big and flavorful.Several food items are also displayed behind a glass barrier. Lots of bottled drinks and horchata! They have a full English menu and accept credit cards. Order at the counter, eat and pay up front at the entrance of the grocery store.

This is a fantastic little Mexican cafe. I have been here a few times, but haven't posted a review until now. I'm not sure what that's about. Maybe it's because the restaurant is inside Mi Preferida Supermercado (which I have already reviewed).Maybe it's because the restaurant is likely too authentic for many of my friends. (Or because the menu is only in Spanish.)Maybe it's because I love this place too much and subconsciously wanted to keep it all to myself. Whatever it is, it's time to share. This place is a gem. It's a small restaurant at the back of Mi Preferida Supermercado. The menu is simple, but varied. Along with many varieties of tacos, tortas, burritos and quesadillas, they always have a number of daily specials. The staff here is very friendly, but none of them (that I have encountered) speak much English. Don't worry about that: smiles and gestures work, and you'll figure it out!

Amazing authentic Mexican. It's in the back of a Mexican Grocery. Best Mexican food in Louisville. I'm so glad a friend of mine introduced me as I would have never known about this place!

Decent Mexican overall. The food is really hit and miss. For instance, the pork mole was dry and boring. The Lengua was killer though! I tried multiple things to give it a fair shot... The chorizo is the best in the city, hands down. I buy it once a week from their super market ( attached to restaurant ) and cook it at home. The staff is very nice. I know a little Spanish, so that makes things easier. Very clean and signed well. I'll be back for the Lengua and chorizo tacos for sure.

Excellent food if you want authentic. Not Taco Bell. Also a good ethnic grocery store. I'll thank my Lincoln service dealer and Yelp for helping me find this gem. 3rd time here in about 10 days. Well worth it.

Just ate here yesterday. Maybe my fourth or fifth time. Food was great and a bargain at the prices. Server had to ask around for someone who spoke English to take my order but that was just part of the fun with the way they handled it. The green and red sauces for the tacos were outstanding. Bringing some friends next time.
