I got Egusi soup combo with the fufu, dine in, and it was very tasty!! I only give 3 stars since service was slow, had to wait 17 mins. Thankfully I had time and all so wasn't as big a deal. They packaged it to go, so I asked for a bowl and they kindly gave me. I ate there, then had leftovers to say the least, very filling. This is only my 4th African meal anywhere, and just 3rd West African meal, so definitely helped progress my adventure in the cuisine. While I def liked the food a lot, I think I'll try one of the other African places the next time I'm in Louisville. Maybe I'll be back, maybe not

While it labels itself as an " African" restaurant, Mashallah specifically serves delicious Senegalese food and should be proud of it. For the minority who are interested in a little geography, the country of Senegal lies in West-Africa and the restaurant serves distinctly different food than e.g. local places like Queen of Sheba (Ethiopian food) or Funmi cafe (Nigerian food). Technically, all serve African food but I feel the distinction should made. After all, one wouldn't for example aggregate French, Italian and German food under the heading of "European" food :). In any case, ordering at the counter, the menu is sort of divided into "combo" plates on the left and specific dishes on the right. I have had the " Chep garnar" combo before and it was quite good. It's a combo of red Jollof rice with grilled chicken, onion sauce and mixed vegetables on the side. Yesterday, I opted for the right side of the menu and ordered piri-piri chicken and the grilled fish, with sides of white and red jollof rice. Different sides can be chosen besides rice. Two kinds of onion sauce are served with most dishes. The food was delicious and I highly recommend giving it a try. My dining partner attacked the chicken like a hungry lioness on a fresh kill :). Both of us will definitely be coming back!Just be curious and just ask if you don't what the dishes contain, many have Senegalese names and for most of us, it's not obvious. Also, this place is authentic, chicken comes with bones, there are dishes that have cow feet in them or oxtail. I have ordered a combo with fish before and got a big fried fish head. It's all very good food, but I know some people who might find this hard to stomach. While the service wasn't necessarily warm and fuzzy, the staff seemed genuinely willing to help explain the menu and offered good service. I wanted to leave a tip, but for some reason, the option was not there on credit card checkout menu. I guess I will bring some cash next time :).

While shopping at Darou Salam I asked if the food was good and they said yes. So I took a chance and went over. The shop is medium sized and welcoming. When I walked in I was greeted with a smile. The place is clean and the smell will pull you in. I decided on the fried fish with salad. Everything was very good and I will be back. Bring your friends and family!

We are not experienced in the world of African food so visiting MaShallah African Restaurant was a great learning experience. We ordered #4 Yassa Ganar, #7 Chep Yapp, #15 Goat Stew and devoured these huge spicy portions until we were too full. Service was adequate mostly because of the language barrier. This restaurant is located in a strip mall so it's not fancy but clean and welcoming. There is also an African taylor located in the restaurant that offers beautiful dresses and unique apparel. Try MaShallah African Restaurant if you want to expand your palette.

First off, I'd like to start off with the fact that there was NO ONE in the restaurant- but I did not let that stop me from trying some different food. I was met with a nice gentleman that helped me order the egusi soup with the fufu and the oxtail soup with joloff rice. Amazing service. The food itself was amazing, the fufu was nice and hot and the oxtail soup was steamy and flavorful. The egusi soup could've used a bit of salt but other than that it was simply delightful. I would recommend anyone looking to try fufu and it's lovely counterpart of egusi soup to come here!
