Took a family day trip to Augusta and Maysville, KY. I knew I needed to pick up a Transparent Pie from Magee's because it is a George Clooney favorite (and they are also just well known in KY). I did a quick Google search which brought us up the very rural Orangeburg Rd. I was certain we were lost but then we saw the OLD Magee's sign painted over. When we got back to where I had cell signal, I Googled again and found their FB page, which had their new address. I sent a correction to Yelp with the new address and photo...it's in a shopping plaza now!Once we got there, we ordered a Transparent Pie, cake pops, cream cookies, sugar cookie, and apple turnover. So far we've tasted the pie, cream cookies and sugar cookie...I LOVE the pie!!!!

The transparent tarts are delicious and the best, sweet and creamy. This bakery moved from its downtown location. The new location is on a farm and almost looks like a house, do not pass it by. The owners aren't very talkative and but friendly. When I'm in Maysville, this is my go to bakery. They sell cakes, cheesecakes and other sweets, however you must get the transparent tarts.

This bakery is definitely unique and very out of the way. They're known for their delicious Transparent Pies and tarts, a Kentucky delicacy. Transparent pies go by many names but only one gal in Northern Kentucky knows how to make the best, and she goes by the name of Magee.Magee's Bakery Farm is an 100 acre beef farm with bakery (and adorable miniature ponies!) Visitors can tour the 1790's farm house or choose to tour the entire farm on a hay ride (or just pig out on tarts and other goodies.) I believe there's hiking and fossil hunting on the farm as well. You can tour the bakery, which allows visitors to make their own tart and butter biscuit. The tarts go for $1.25 each ($15 dozen) and pies go for $7. They also sell other goodies, including sugar cookies, cakes and local honey. If you're planning on buying a lot, call ahead. This is a large farm but small bakery.**Important Tip 1** Once you get on Orangeburg Road keep looking for the big blue sign that says "Magee's Bakery" in white lettering. I passed it and had to turn around.**Important Tip 2** They only take checks and cash-no credit or debit (I lucked out big time but didn't get to buy as much as I wanted.)

I've purchased two cakes from Magee's and both were dry. I purchase a chocolate cake for Christmas and it was really dry, but I chalked that up to not eating it until the following day at my Christmas dinner. I tried their white cake which was also very dry and their frosting was salty and a little grainy. They are also not the friendliest group of people, I'm not sure I've ever seen a smile from them when I've stopped in to buy baked goods.

I grew up in Maysville, so I was familiar with Magee's when it was down on Market Street. Saturdays were a treat because it meant a trip into town to the library and a stop at the Bakery for a transparent pudding or cream horn. Now I'm grown and living in Nashville, Tenn., but a visit to Maysville still includes a stop at Magee's Bakery. It's a little further out on Orangeburg Road, but neither the quality nor the flavor have diminished in the least. It seems that transparent puddings, or tarts, are still a regional thing as I can't find them anywhere else, but they're known around the world, partly due to George Clooney's love of this rich dessert. He grew up in the area, and he's known to call in an order for shipping to one of his homes or the location of his latest movie for a little taste of home.I think that's what they are to me as well -- a little taste of home.

A small hometown mom-n-pop bakery. I've never been to this place before so I used my GPS for directions and thought I was either lost or my GPS didn't know where to go. This place is like in the middle of no where. But I am glad I stopped by. The transparent pies are great. I also had some square cake and it was delicious.

I just spent $24 at a bakery and I'm a little embarrassed. That money got me 4 dozen cookies, half a dozen transparent tarts and an individual cheesecake. We stopped here last week and got a small sampling of everything, and it was all delicious. What a little gem! A little out of the way, but if it's good enough for George Clooney, it's good enough for me!

Some Kentucky history. The transparent pie PLUS the fact it is George Clooney's hometown favorite place to eat these pies and he visits regularly. Small bakery in the middle of nowhere , but what a treat !! Great prices. Homemade goodies. Wonderful stop
