They are good at helping somone find the right animal for the right person. I just called to see if they would help me get my cat bathed and they said no. So, do they bathe their own cats???

I picked up a smooth collie for tri State Collie rescue from Lexington Humane Society. He was really sweet and well cared for by them and had been fully vetted. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I bought a what's one more shirt from their boutique which had some nice pet items. I enjoyed my time at Lexington Humane Society and their helpful transfer of the collie. Thanks LHS for your good work!

There are no words to describe how much I love this place but I'm sure going to do my best to describe it.I've always been a people person, animals were cool but I had one black lab as a child and he lived on my grandparent farm so it was just one of those things. One day I thought we'd get a pup or cat but it wasn't something I thought I was ready for (I love to travel and go places and I didn't want to be one of those people keeping their dog at home all the time). Joe had patiently waited over 3 year for me to get to that point. I had had the fortunate opportunity to volunteer for a couple events through LHS and had gotten to meet several volunteers/staff and they were all so amazing & truly doing their best, all for the sake of the animals. One day I decided to look on the LHS site & there she was. I called up there to see if she was still there and they were friendly and helpful to confirm she was. I was so surprised as they had had her over a month at that point. We arrived at the shelter later that afternoon and she was 1 of only 2 pups not pending adoption. Her card read active and playful (not sure of any pups that aren't) we asked a bit about her background etc. She had been rescued from a kill shelter in another part of the state. Once they got her they found out she had parvo and she spent 4 weeks isolated from other pups til she had been cured. We found out the national average was around 50% survival rate and LHS had a 75% survival rate at that point. She was on a first call list (you can sign up that you're specifically looking for a certain breed or mix of dog/pup and they will call you first) but had been passed up by 3 different folks I believe. They didn't know if it was because she had been so playful or being a parvo survivor but we had to have her. She has been an absolute Godsend and we could not be happier. Ever since then I knew I had to get more involved. This humane society, this staff, everything about this place is truly wonderful. A few weeks after getting her I visited another shelter to attempt to save some fur babies from euthanization and call me naive but I had no idea some of the conditions these babies live in, if they get to live at all. LHS is the best, hands down. They do the best they can for not only the fur babies in the community but surrounding areas. They attempt to get them from kill shelters around the state, they encourage spay and neutering your pets to keep down on the animal population, and do what they can to educate the public in the process. They check these babies out with an onsite vet, spay/neuter, microchip and get them up to date on shots. I encourage everyone that I can to go here first to adopt and not shop. LHS you rock!!!

Wonderful place to give some love and receive an abundance of it, even if you are not able to adopt yet. Have been visiting knowing that I will move to a place where I can actually have a pet. Visiting the website in preparation for adoption works, however it is not always the most up to date. So take a trip to lexington humane society and ADOPT LOVE! The adoption fee for young kittens and puppies is more expensive compared to the older dogs and cats. However, all of the animals have all their medical needs attended to and their shots completed. If you are looking for a place that will offer affordable chip-ing and neutering for your outdoor pets, you have found it!

So many adorable pets here, however, the staff was extremely rude and unprofessional. As a place looking for people to take these neglected animals, they sure don't do a good job of it. I felt extremely uncomfortable by the staff and they were rude to me the entire process, despite me being nothing but polite. As i left, this one worker, a red haired bigger woman, ridiculed me and embarrassed me by calling me a liar. This woman has no idea who I am or my back round . Overall really disappointing and I hope these animals will be able to be adopted despite the unprofessional staff.

Adopted our wild furchild from here! The staff was friendly. Online he was mis-labeled as "small breed" when he is in fact a "medium breed." It took about two hours to adopt him. He needed a meet & greet with our other dog who weighs about 8 pounds, so my husband carried her in like always and they made us buy her a leash from their little shopping corner to use to meet him instead of just letting us use one of their many slip leashes. That was a liiittle annoying. While we were finishing filling out the paperwork for him, they invited another gentleman to meet same dog we were adopting, my husband spoke up and said it was wrong to allow somebody to do that knowing the dog is already going somewhere else. They just kind of awkwardly apologized and told the person never mind. (Unbeknownst to me) He had been neutered just a couple of hours before we adopted him which I am thankful for, however I wish they would keep the animals away from the adoption floor for a day or so after their procedure. I'm sure it is very stressful on the animals and those meeting the animals are potentially getting a false sense of their personality. Overall, I would adopt from here again. It just feels a bit disorganized.

To say that this has been the worst experience I've ever had adopting an animal would be a profound understatement and to say that the staff has been remotely helpful would be an even bigger one.I adopted a cat less than 24 hours ago. She'd been spayed on 4/5 (5 days prior to adoption). When I brought her home and got her out of the carrier, I noticed her incision was a little puffy and red but didn't look too concerning. When I woke up this morning, her incision had opened up to be over half an inch wide where you could see the abdominal wall. I called the extension provided and spoke to someone at the medical clinic. They told me to take her to the vet first then call back. Meanwhile, I haven't activated the medical insurance yet since her vet appointment wasn't scheduled until Thursday.I rushed her over to Brighton and they immediately said she'd need surgery to correct a poorly done suture from LHS staff. There were signs of infection as well which doesn't just pop up over night. I call the clinic back and am relayed several messages from a supervisor who wouldn't speak to me directly about my "options." The "options" I was given included just waiting until they could potentially see her sometime this week, or to commit insurance fraud by "calling them to activate it but make sure I did not say anything about the hole in her stomach." That was said to me directly from 2 of the staff members, one of which was supposedly a manager. They also assured me that it would be 100% covered. My vet tech called them to try to explain the urgency behind the situation and asked the staff member just what exactly she expected me to say to the insurance company to which she couldn't provide a great answer. Then after that your staff member explained to her that "it could be a sticky situation" trying to get the insurance to cover it since it IS a preexisting condition that the cat was sent home with, which completely contradicts what I was told earlier. The staff member then told the technician to just have me email pictures, to an email which they did not offer to provide, so the LHS vets could look at it in the morning. So I'm just supposed to take an animal home with a finger wide hole in her stomach when they're recommending emergency surgery?I was informed I could not be provided with reimbursement since they're a nonprofit. This left me with no option other than to pay out of pocket for an emergency surgery my animal required due to the incompetence of the staff who did her surgery and the lack of attention to her incision. I attempted to call the medical center back to at least ask for medication and they did not answer my calls. I have left a voicemail for them to respond to asking for the highest manager that's not in the medical department. And the only person that's been even a tiny bit sympathetic would be Anna at the everyday adoption center at PetSmart where she came from but unfortunately she's unable to assist me in any way either. The lack of compassion for a humane society who claims their mission statement as " To advocate the compassionate treatment of animals; educate the community on responsible, lifelong pet ownership; and promote adoption as the best option when searching for a new pet." this has been a pathetic example of living up to those values. You've taken a young, recently married, couple's excitement of bringing home a new fur baby and destroyed it with the unkind, unhelpful, and uncaring staff I've dealt with since I made my first phone call at 11:20am today. You've shown how little you care for these animals and have made me feel taken advantage of by not taking care of your mistakes. You've put a pet owner in the position of "do I allow my animal to suffer while waiting to see if the humane society will fix their wrong, or do I pay out of pocket to fix their mistakes that they aren't willing to fix without risking the life of the animal?" Needless to say, I picked the second option and did what they should have done at my own expense.

This review isn't for the staff of the building that adopts the dogs at LHS. They were actually quite helpful and professional. Particularly the woman who is the head of the kennels/cages. Who's name escapes me..my apologies. Very kind and answers all your concerns and questions. The review is for the dog surrender, Building A. The girl with the glasses, who takes the dog in at the desk, was rude to me and the dog. Very poor demeanor. Sad that someone like this is employed at the LHS.
