La Palma

Alright... time to give it up and announce my number 1 place to get ropa vieja is now La Palma!Seriously, I can be rather picky about ropa vieja but I gobbled this one right up. The flavors were there and the texture was amazing. I find sometimes if it cooks too long it can become *too fine*. This however was perfectly shredded. Now the black beans.... Absolutely delicious. They arnt my favorite I've ever had but they will be taking the #2 spot. I prefer soup-y beans and this was just the right consistency.You may have noticed I got white rice.... It's honestly because I wanted to be able to eat it with the beans & ropa vieja without the flavors interfering. There were two other options, and perhaps I'll try them in the future, but this time I was glad I got plain white.The building is located off Preston and has a smaller parking lot, but usually has a few spots open. there was some seating inside but i chose to grab it and go. I noticed a cute neon sign with the name, i wish i would've grabbed a picture! thats okay.. it gives me an excuse to come back sooner;)Last thoughts: Best ropa vieja Ive ever had. Huge portion at a good price. Yummy rice & beans. Can't wait to revisit!

So a small hole in the wall again... and food was home made and delicious. We went later in the evening and it was close to closing time it was empty so ambiance was good. Fairly priced for all the food you get. Customer service was great!!

I've been on the hunt for for an authentic Cuban experience, and I do believe I have found it with restaurant La Palma. I would say that this restaurant is off the beaten Path. You will not be able to find this unless you are actively searching for it. The restaurant itself you will see mostly everything in Spanish but they do have English menus available... I got the pork with yellow rice and also added sweet plantains and some potatoes. The pork was so flavorful and tender, and the yellow rice compliments it very well... the plantains were soft and fried and so sweet it. Oh my goodness it is a amazing.!!!!! Overall, I'll give this place five stars and I will definitely be back for more..... bone app a Titty

Delicious, high quality food in a no-frills setting. We found this place on Yelp and we're very pleased with the food and service. They have about 6 different meals with choice of rice and side. I ordered the bistec encebollado and my husband ordered the chicken. Both were delicious!

This new Cuban place on Preston Highway has it going on. Super friendly service and good cheap eats. Combo plates are $9.99. Choose a meat, a rice and a side. Today they had lamb shank, brisket, beef stew and chicken stew to choose from. They also had a couple of soups and empanadas. I chose the lamb shank with the rice congris and fried plantains. The portion was enormous. I'm stuffed and I have more than half left for lunch tomorrow. Give these guys a try, you will not regret it.

One of the best cuban restaurants here in Louisville ky amazing food and service ! I have been to a lot of different cuban food places here in Louisville and this is definitely one of the best ones.

Excellent Cuban food at the aptly named "Cuban Food." A steam table of Cuban staples starting with Arroz Congri (rice with black beans) or plain white rice allow you to create a plate. I opted for the Arroz Congri with Ropa Vieja (braised and shredded flank steak,) and the smashed, fried plantains. This combo comes with a drink and will set you back $10 bucks for a sizable plate of tasty food. The staff were helpful and friendly.

Ok, I thought that I would leave Kentucky, and be disappointed on the Cuban food, well to my surprise I did a search on my app, and notice this little authentic Cuban Food restaurant....yes real Cuban place with Materva, Ironbeer.. if you knows this 2 drinks then you know I'm saying the truth.. Good food, Ropa Vieja, Maduro, y Arros Morro.Thank you

Lunch is a little on the high side $12 dollars for the daily special, 1 meat and 2 side with a bottle of water. For the taste, I would rate it an 8.5 on the taste, very good. Have to return a few times to have a better idea of the quality. Would I return? Yes. Very clean!! Really like the place. Try it, won't be disappointed. The ribs were soft, missing just a little more Cuban taste but very good. The black beans are missing that Cuban sazón, can't quiet nail it but very very good.

Great hole-in-the-wall frequented by locals. Simple menu and ambiance with delicious food. I had the yellow rice, plantains, tostones, and seasoned ground beef (they were out of the ropa vieja I had planned to order). The ladies behind the counter were friendly and they very patiently described the food to us (I was unfamiliar with tostones). My wife's black rice and lamb were excellent as well. My daughter was not feeling adventurous so she got their pizza, and here's the kicker: it was fantastic! It was just a cheese pizza, but it was obviously made fresh, had a ton of cheese on it, and was baked to bubbly perfection. I could see myself going back to this Cuban restaurant to get their pizza! (and everything else)
