La Bonita made me feel la bonita. The food was scrumptious!! The portions were pretty great, the food was tasty and authentic, and prices were reasonable. I only did take out so I'm not sure about the ambiance, but from what I could see it looked pretty nice. Overall, I always have a tasty experience!

The reason my friend met me in Bloomington was to help me acquire conchas from the local Mexican bakery, La Bonita ! The place looks hella sketch at first, but once you open the door to the grocery, it looks like a pleasant little grocery store ! They also run a small restaurant alongside the grocery store. They had two big glass cases full of bakery items. My wonderful bestie bought me 3 different conchas ! I've already had one and they are divine. Everything is in Spanish, which is why I asked my friend to go with me. Definitely recommend !

Food flavors bland for Mexican ... two choices of beer , corona and negro... where's the XX. Ambiance was plain Jane... the guacamole was good.

Went back to La Bonita this evening and was pretty disappointed in my meal. I always keep my expectations realistic when eating here, they are no frills and in the past I found their food to be tasty. Unfortunately, tonight that was not the case. I picked up two burritos to go and they were just not at all what I expected. The carne asada burrito was mostly lettuce, very few beans and not all that much steak. The veggie burrito was not what we ordered. Specifically asked for just beans, rice and salsa. Instead it was loaded up with grilled green peppers and almost no beans. We had communicated in English and in Spanish with the hostess, but maybe she didn't communicate it to the cook. The chips were stale tasting too. Used to really like this place, but I feel like they have gone downhill a bit. Hopefully it will be better next time, but I won't be rushing back.

I was just about to lose hope for Mexican food in Bloomington until La Bonita. Per a classmate's recommendation, we stopped by La Bonita! It's in a pretty seemingly random, desolate spot but La Bonita is a hidden gem. We ordered chips & salsa + tacos. We were given 3 different types of salsa:*A pico de gallo-esque one that was very tomato forward*A spicier salsa rojo with a nice smokiness to it*A salsa verde - i loved the tang on this one Chips were nothing to write home about - I prefer them homemade! But, not bad. The tacos are $2.25 each but they're not street-taco sized. So massive! I tried the carnitas, pollo and al pastor. Favorite was carnitas. I did like the al pastor but it was a little bit too fatty/rich for me. After all the porky goodness, pollo tasted way too "healthy" haha.I will definitely be back for my taco fix. As mentioned in other reviews, the market is super tiny but they sell Takis & cane sugar Coke - YAS!

This is probably the most authentic Mexican restaurant in Bloomington. It's a small place where knowing some Spanish would help. Though they have English speaking staff and menu, the POS system is in Spanish (if you're paying by card). The restaurant is combined with a market. If you are looking for real Mexican spices or foods, this is your spot. They even have fresh Mexican pastries/Concha. I've been twice in two weeks now. Their street tacos are legit! If you've been to Southern California and know what asada fries are, they have an interesting take on those that are worth it! I'll definitely be going back. On Sundays they offer menudo... Haven't tried yet but will soon!

Lunch time, sonny had Pollo Con Queso.Cheese sauce is wonderful! Chicken cooked nicely, served with cheese sauce on a cast iron fajita platter. Rice/beans/other accompaniments was all good as well. I had the enchiladas Rojas Caseras, it comes with 5 enchiladas with mole sauce that is perhaps too spicy for some, but DANG was it good!!! I could only eat 3 so dinner is planned haha. chips and salsa great, as chips are warm, red salsa great appetizer, and salsa verde in a squeeze bottle had a lot of kick as well. Service great. Will be back to try more, guarantee that...
