I was searching for an African restaurant in Louisville and stumbled upon Kwetu African Cuisine on Facebook. They didn't have very many reviews but the few they had seemed to indicate that everyone enjoyed the food and the staff! My friend and I met up Sunday before Labor Day and the place is a lot bigger on the inside than it seems from the outside. The restaurant is very unassuming and on the inside could use some decor updates but we were there for the food. They let us know that their AC was out and suggested that we get take out but I had already invited a few friends to come and so we decided to sit inside as they weren't busy due to the heat likely but they had some industrial fans going and it wasn't too miserable. We each ordered entrees but mine came out before my food and my friends came out afterwards. Everything was made fresh and very well seasoned and the portions were huge! The restaurant is family owned and operated. The server was the brother of the owner. He took our order after I made sure that it was ok, he said they'd have to cook in the heat either way. He mentioned the special was oxtail which was not in the menu but it is what I ordered with the jollof rice and cabbage as my two sides and an order of samosas and fried plantains, The portions were huge so I ended up with leftovers. Everything was delicious even a few days later! My friend was also very happy with their meal! Their pricing was about par for the service and portions alone! I can't wait to go back! I posted the pictures and my friends that couldn't come said how good everything looked and wanted to go too!

I live just down the street from this sleepy African restaurant. I've been meaning to visit for quite a while. I'd visited (and reviewed) the old Italian restaurant that was here before and was excited when something interesting and new took over the spot. When I walked in it was clear that people were comfortable here. People were chatting and I sat myself. I was the only one in the dining room, I ordered the goat stew with jollof rice and asked the waitress what was her favorite side for my second, sautes cabbage. When my food came out the portions were huge. I dug into my food and enjoyed the spices and savory seasonings. Eventually some youths came in and were hanging out showing me this restaurant has a community around it and I think that's neat.

I've been on a search for quality jollof rice here in Louisville for a while. I heard about Kwetu and thought I would check it out. Absolutely love this place! The food was outstanding. The interior is well decorated, with TVs playing Afrobeats in the background. The best part is the staff. They were so welcoming and friendly. I will definitely be back. Looking forward to trying the suya and oxtail stew.

Honestly some of the best food I've had in awhile. If I had to pick a favorite dish, I would be hard-pressed. It was a great introduction to African cuisine, and I will most definitely be a repeat customer! Generous portion sizes for the money, too. Psst get the Joloff rice!!!

Great chicken thigh and loved the plantains. Hubby enjoyed the goat curry. First time for fufu bread, like a steamed bread made from corn meal was great to sop up the curry.
