The food was outstanding! The Mongolian beef practically melted in my mouth. The dumplings in plum sauce which were a side order were fantastic, I use the sauce to put on my fried rice. Even the appetizers that come with the meal were great. Highly recommend.

Great food - so much better than a buffet! We especially love the dumplings. The servers are always friendly and accommodating. Carry-out is fantastic

Quite and unassuming, friendly staff welcomed us. We sat down and I had just a very classic feeling that this was going to be good Chinese food.We had the Dragon Beef (spicy) and the Ocean Tide shrimp. Both were delicious. I tried the beef, and it was crispy and spicy, served on a bed of baby bok choy. The Shrimp was also served on the bok choy, but it had a light white sauce and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. But the Szechwan dumplings were the star. We had those as an appetizer, they came in a bowl of well balanced brown sauce, with sesame seeds and green onions. The sauce was so good, I saved it for my white rice. If we go back to Evansville we will definitely be hitting up Jimmy Goa's Szechwan Restaurant.

This must be my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Midwest. I come down to Evansville regularly to visit and always stop by Jimmy's for lunch. You cannot beat the lunch specials with fresh veggies and meat so tasty. The restaurant is unassuming in a strip mall. The main dining room is Asian inspired with white table clothes and comfortable. The staff and Jimmy are so friendly - always cheerful and welcoming. They make a point of remembering the favorites of the regulars. They check on you regularly to make sure your order is fine and keep drinks full. Lunch specials start at $6.50 and include soup, crab Rangoon, egg roll, entree and choice of rice. So much food! You never leave hungry and often take food home. I love the Kung Pao chicken or shrimp. Ingredients are fresh and tasty. I also like the fried eggplant dish. The hot and sour soup is smooth and flavorful. I'll keep coming back.

Let me preface this review with the fact that I have eaten here with family & friends since it first opened a very long time ago. We even hosted my step-sons rehearsal dinner here over 25 yrs. ago. The food is still great, but the friendly greeting and overall ambience is gone. New owners perhaps?I'm here early on a Sunday evening by myself. There are 18 tables in the dining room...one table was occupied. The young man at the front counter led me to a tabled in a out of the way corner!!! When I asked to be seated at a different one. He acted put out. Otherwise the woman who waited on me was efficient and friendly-she's been here forever.Moral-if you are a woman and come here alone-don't let them seat you in an out of the way Corner.I've been eating at this place for over 20 yrs. However, between Covid-19 and an unpleasant experience more than a year ago-I had not been back. On a Sunday evening, I'm the only person in the dining room. Thankfully I witnessed numerous take out orders being picked up. This is a restaurant I would hate to see closed!I was craving their Green Bean Pancakes. The waiter rolled them for me table side. They were just as delicious as ever! I also ordered 2 egg rolls, which came after I had already consumed 2 of the pancakes. I regretted ordering them the moment I cut into the first one. Instead of being loaded with veggies, they contain a bland meat mixture.

Look no further for delicious Szechwan cuisine. You've found it right here at Jimmy Gao's!They rolled out the red carpet for our group of 6. We dined family style while enjoying two bottles of wine, 2 apps, and 4 entrees. All in before taxes you're looking at $150 or so. For all that, I would consider that a steal being the food was amazing and so was the service. This is a well-known establishment to Evansville. Moveover, the local following is well deserved. It's no wonder they've been in business for so many years! If you're lucky, maybe you'll run into Jimmy himself. Sometimes he stops by.

As we walked out of the restaurant, I said to my husband, "That was delicious." Boy, was it. We hadn't been to Jimmy's in a while, but went back after reading Aimee Blume's review in the paper. She wrote how the the original chef, who is from Szechuan Province, was the new owner and had added some authentic Chinese dishes. My husband and I have been to China and ate some dynamite food there, so we had to try it. I am so glad we did. It was the best Chinese food I've ever had in Evansville. We had the chicken with dried chili pepper and the sizzling spicy fish. They were spicy, but not so hot that you couldn't enjoy them if you like spicy food. The deep, rich flavors were so good I couldn't stop eating them. If you go, ask for the authentic Chinese menu, you won't be disappointed.

This is our go to place to eat when we go to Evansville. We went there on June 18 2024 and a sign on the door says they are closed untill July 2 2024. They should post this online. Would have saved us a long drive for nothing.

We ordered several dishes family style and having lived in China for ten years, it has been the most authentic dining experience I have had since returning. Nice flavors and good service.
