Hillview Family Diner & Ice Cream

We have eaten at Hillview Family Diner several times, and the food never disappoints. It provides a very down to earth ambience, mixing'50's & 60's record album covers and decor with what we call "old-timey" decorations. Truly "for the family," children & the elderly joyfully share the avenues to observe the kitsch. It seems each time we go, the entrance and exit doors, along with the arrangement of tables inside, have changed. I realized they were doing this to improve the availability of seating, but I hope this last arrangement will be sufficient for a while. Unfortunately, the one area that has seen no changes, except the toilet paper and hand towels, is the restroom. It's always clean and has an adult height toilet and handicapped grab bars. But it's still so small that I can barely maneuver, so I shudder to imagine what someone in a wheelchair would do...except cry. We waited a short time while tables were cleared and a server was available. Nevertheless, once we were seated, our service was admirable: refills on coffee were timely & our food was served quickly and hot. I ordered scrambled eggs with cheese, but was disappointed that there was no cheese on my plate when it arrived. However, I decided it wasn't worth waiting for a replacement meal and dug in! Their pancakes are legendary, filling an entire dinner plate even if there's only one! Sugar free syrup is available upon request, and every single person that we've ever met there has been friendly and helpful. We hope Hillview Family Diner will be around for many years to come. P.S. We're so glad they have now extended their serving hours as we were rarely able to visit when they closed earlier. They're great; so please don't eat there, because we don't want it to become so crowded that we have to wait too long!

Food is excellent and inexpensive for large portions Wait staff truly appreciates and knows their regular customers; they are very friendly and truly a family diner

The breakfast is delicious! Pancakes are fluffy and the syrup is good. Hashbrown orders are at least the double size that Waffle House does. And it's affordable. I had to ignore the conservative flair with their signs, which is unfortunate given how good the food is. That's my only reservation in returning. Otherwise everything else about it was great.

My uncle and his girlfriend have raved about this place forever and when I finally got to try it - they were totally right. This place is a gem! My mom, aunt, and I stopped in for lunch after seeing a movie down the street. It was decently busy but we were able to be seated right away. Our waitress was super prompt and very friendly. My aunt and mom both had burgers, one with onion rings and one with fries while I chose the chicken livers with mashed potatoes and gravy and greens. Everything was SO good! The livers were perfectly fried and the mashed potatoes, gravy, and greens were just down home good! My mom and aunt absolutely loved the burgers.Prices were reasonable for the amount of food and the ambience in there is great. Reminiscent of old timey diners. I loved it. I was too full to try dessert but their cakes looked delicious. Needless to say, we will be back!

This was the perfect old school diner type of place for breakfast. Stepping in, felt like taking a step back in time. There's memorabilia on the wall, an old school counter, and a multitude of booths to sit at. The menu is simple but delicious! My friend and I both opted for the #3 except she chose bacon over sausage. I highly recommend getting a side of the sausage gravy and a pancake. Our waitress was sweet and attentive the wholetime and checked on us throughout our dining experience. Our food was brought out hot and fresh and within ten minutes of being there. This was a great place to dine. Definitely gave off local vibes! I highly recommend if in the area. It is located within a shopping plaza that has ample parking.

This restaurant is good delicious home cooking with reasonable prices. Food is served hot for your table by friendly servers.

Open faced roast beef sandwiches (Manhattans) are not a thing in Austin, TX. It's criminal really. It was one of the things I missed most while living there.So, in moving back to KY, I immediately began my search for a quality Manhattan which led me to Hillview Family Diner. Two slices of soft white bread piled high with slow roasted beef, savory gravy, and mashed potatoes on the side. And I always get green beans as my 2nd side because there's lots of bacony goodness in there. This meal continues to bring me back to the opposite side of town because I haven't found one better! My son loves the kids bacon cheeseburger too and my stolen bites support his opinion. This place tastes like home.

I love this little diner! It has good home cooking and all of the staff is super nice.

I ordered food for my friend and her husband for dinner and dessert too. The cakes looked so good I bought a piece for hubby and myself and it was great. They said that they eat there regularly and love the food.

My first experience here was actually really nice, but since then I have to turn around and leave more often than not as the service is so horrible, I've been left in a corner and forgot about by my server, and today they were seating people further back in line than I was because I did not want to sit at the bar, the food is nice, but it's not so nice that I'm willing to put up with this kind of service to dine there
