Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken - Louisville

Takeout: Chicken? 5 stars. Perfect spice level, juicy tender meat...delicious. Sides? 2 stars. Kinda soggy fries (and there was no ketchup in the take out bag) baked beans were meh. Buuut the fried green tomatoes were good.I would go again but just buy chicken.

My goodness ! This place was an absolute gem. I'm in town to do photography for a track meet and wanted to grab some food before the snow storm hit. This was the first place I saw and man am I glad that I stopped here. First off, the service was immaculate. As soon as I stepped into the building, I was greeted with warm welcomes and the guy at the register was very helpful. I felt at home. This is absolutely the best fried chicken I've ever had in my life. I had the 3 piece dark meal and I scraped my plate CLEAN. I'll definitely be going back before I leave out this weekend. 5 stars! 10/10 !

The chicken was ok. The sides I had were mac and cheese and greens. The mac and cheese was cheesy but it had no flavor which was odd to me. Maybe some seasoning would have helped. Everything was presented well and the restaurant had great ambience. The people working there were very friendly and efficient.

A friend of my husband's told about this place. I have lived here for years, have seen the sign, but never stopped here. How could I not try the world famous chicken! I got the 2 piece white (breast and wing) macaroni and cheese, and coleslaw with a sweet tea. Service was great. Food came out fast. The chicken was delicious. It was fried "hard", spicy, and juicy. The sides were subpar. The coleslaw was asi asi (ok). The mac and cheese tasted like it came out the box and I was not a fan. I will definitely get chicken from here again to go but my sides will be coming from somewhere else. The sweet tea was true sweet. I will admit I almost took the cup because it was plastic. Then we got to go cups and it was a styrofoam cup lol. Do not accidentally take the cups

The best chicken I've ever had in my life! Every wood has been so nice. I just stopped in because of staying at a hotel down the street and I literally have had this for the last three nights and I'm gonna have it again tonight to let you know how delicious it is.! The price is more than fair!

We stopped on a Monday evening after a dance lesson. I didn't realize it was spicy chicken until we were ordering. The server said it wasn't too spicy, so I took a chance. Unfortunately, it was too spicy for me. My tolerance is very low. The flavor was great, I just couldn't handle the heat! The sides were excellent though. The macaroni and cheese was moist and cheesy. The greens had great flavor - even my 13 month loved them. I jokingly told my husband if we came back I would just have to order from the kids menu.

When traveling to Louisville, I always have to stop and have fried chicken at Gus's world famous fried chicken! I love the crispy slightly spicy flavor of this chicken. The restaurant is very simple but the food is tasty! Interesting thing was when I went there to have lunch. The gentleman in front of me actually paid for my meal.I'll have to travel there again and it forward!

Actual fresh cooked to order spicy fried chicken! Was just what I was looking for tonight. Restaurant was clean, presented well and had a couple TVs going with the volume low, just enough to occupy your brain while you waited (very shortly) for the food. Wish they had something besides Diet Coke for a diet drink option but as good as the chicken was it would have taken something really bad to happen to pull even 1 star off this review.

Gus's world Famous Fried Chicken impresses. Chicken and collard greens are really good. Got the 2 piece white (Brest and wing) with two sides. Wife got the same.Greeted as soon as we walked in and told to seat ourselves since we were eating in. Took a minute to find a table b/c some of them were dirty.Stef took our order after sitting for like ten minutes and explained the spice levels of the chicken. 5 out 10 for the regular chicken and 2 out of ten for the tenders.The restaurant is a large casual place with retro 70's seats and cement floor with a little design in them. Love the many pictures on the wall with jazz entertainers and story of the company on them.The chicken was juicy and cooked fresh not frozen and the greens were delightful. The coleslaw had no flavor and the fried green tomatoes were good and fresh.Stef did a great job flying around our table checking on us and bringing us several free refills. My refills were flat not her fault. Real positive experience overall. Plenty of parking on the side and in the back of the lot. Easy to find at corner of Shelbyville rd and Hurstborne lane.

Gus's is hands down the BEST fried chicken in the universe, and 2nd place is several light years behind. I had eaten at the New Orleans location previously, and was giddy with delight, like a wee lad on Christmas morning, when I saw my hotel was less than a mile away from this location in Louisville. I had it for dinner and again for lunch the next day. So good.
