Gather Around BBQ

I wasn't just expecting to find great bbq in Martinsville, but there it was highly recommended by my friend Richard Walton on Yelp. Their cute little restaurant is across from the post office. I wanted a sandwich to go and they had $13 lunch specials that included a selection of sandwiches, a side and drink. I selected the brisket sandwich with spicy bbq sauce, cole slaw and I grabbed a unsweetened ice tea. The clerk was friendly and I had a short wait. The dining room is neat and tidy with old photos of Martinsville and subtle pig decor. Outside is a really nice covered patio where pets are welcome. My food came out quickly in a paper bag with my name on it. The BBQ brisket was phenomenal. The sandwich had several generous slices of thick brisket with slightly burnt ends, but moist and tender inside. The meat melted into the bun, which was soft and fresh. This was the best bbq sandwich I'd had in a long time. The spicy sauce, came on the side, was really delicious, too. The cole slaw is prepared in-house, finely chopped with a sweet vinegar dressing. It was crunchy and good, and a I've portion. Easy 5 star lunch. Free street parking. I'd stop by every time I'd mail a letter if I lived here. And I'd mail a lot of letters.

First time in area looking for a BBQ place and this one did not disappoint. The lunch rush was over. The place was clean and well stocked. The server was pleasant and kind. She explained the menu selections. The service was excellent, food was good, seating was comfortable and clean. The rest room facility's were ADA compliant. Excellent Customer service

Two words: candied bacon.A friendly, comfortable place where you'll be welcomed like family - if your family had super BBQ skills, which this one does.Our on the shady, breezy patio, we shared the sampler: brisket, chicken, pulled pork, cheesy potatoes, green beans and coleslaw. And the candied bacon. Ohh myy.Go.

We just love this place! We there quite often but today my review is for their catering service. We used them this weekend for a rehearsal dinner for our son's wedding. It was so good and everyone enjoyed it so much. We knew our bbq would be great as always but the Mac n cheese was over the top good. People kept going back for it! But for me the star of the show was the apple crisp dessert. Wow! You really need to stop in and try this. I'll be getting this on a regular basis now! Great job to the catering crew, the cooks, mgrs, and the owners Kevin and Melissa. You guys make Martinsville proud! Keep up the great work!

Food was good but service was not. We went on our anniversary and was greeted but after that it wasn't so great. They was not busy and we were unattended much of the time. I felt compelled to go there because we are trying out the restaurants since moving here; but the atmosphere was like meh. The tenderloin and hamburger were great , but I was surprised that fries were considered as a side not as a necessity with the Sandwhich. Portions were okay

This restaurant is what Yelpin is all about. A small local family business that is top notch. I am glad that I have the opportunity to share my experience. It dereseves all of the praise that it is getting and then some. The restaurant is located in an up-in-coming area of downtown Martinsville. The area was dead, less than a year ago. It looks awesome now though. I placed my order online, through their website directly. I found that the Grub Hub website had higher prices for some reason. I will probably call my order in next time. I ordered the baked beans, 1/2 slab of ribs, 3 slices of candied bacon, and fries. Quick tip, don't forget the sauce. The food was amazing. The candied bacon was heavenly, perfectly cooked, the fries were tasty, the beans were perfect and the ribs were so good that I eat them so fast that I did not even get a picture of it.The service there is awesome. Carol was great. She was extremely helpful and stopped by my table and made sure that everything was good. I seemed like she personally knew everyone that came in there by the personable way that she conversed with them. After I was done eating, Carol came over and had a chat with me. She told me about the restaurant and suggested that I call my order in next time because there are some menu items that are not put up online, most notably the candied BLT sandwich (made with their candied bacon). Yes, please. I am definitely getting that next time. It sounds absolutely delicious.The restaurant has free street parking out front. It is very clean a spacious. They even have a heated patio area with the retractable plastic walls that can be raised when the weather is good. I was very impressed as to how clean the place was. I do not know if it is a law or not that you must visit this restaurant when you are near Martinsville, but if it is not, it should be. I highly recommend this restaurant. It has excellent service, friendly staff, and the food is some of the best Q you will find.

Gather Around is so stinkin good we have been there half a dozen times in just a couple months. Their ribs are amazing and juicy every time, we love the coleslaw and the brisket.

First of all I have been to this location several dozen times . This was the first time I have had a bad experience . The food is great , the prices are fair and the environment is clean . The server I had today was maybe the worst I have ever had . A young female served our table just after lunch on 12.28 and I have to say that the attitude and attention to detail was horrible . It will be a while before I take my family back .

My husband and I tried Gather Around BBQ for the first time over the weekend; we were glad we did! The food was very good, with generous portions. The service was prompt and friendly. We plan to return now that we know how good the food is.

The food is delicious, service is great , ambience is nice. We love going here when we are in Martinsville.
