Anti-American owner...nasty food.... Poorly managed service. The billing is guessing game. Double check your bill, so you are not cheated. And pay the price of eating their food the next day. Ouch it hurts!

Pretty typical Americanized Mexican restaurant. We had the Enchiladas rancheros and Chicken fajitas and Cheese dip. The pork on the enchiladas was great- tender and flavorful The chicken in the fajitas was seasoned well and the chicken was tender. The flour tortillas services with the fajitas weren't homemadeAlso got the "hot" salsa- you have to ask for it. It had a nice heat, dark and full of chilies. Not as spicy as I would have liked or am used to but a nice addition to the meal. We also had dessert- cheesecake chimichanga. It was served with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Not bad ending to the meal. The cheesecake filling was delicious but chimichanga outside required a knife to cut. We enjoyed our meal. Staff was friendly ( despite one of the reviews I read about "angry" people). Prices were typical. You do pay at the register without a bill- they have it by table. We'd eat there again.

If you've never been to Burkesville before, you've got to know something going in. I've been there several times, and each time I'm amazed at how different it is from the rest of Kentucky. Almost everyone in Burkesville seems angry. This is in stark contrast to the rest of the Commonwealth, which, from my perspective, has some of the nicest, happiest people in the world. It's not meant as an insult, but it seems like someone or something has sucked all of the happiness from the residents of this small town. But you've got to know that going in. El Rey was absolutely decked out with Halloween decorations which made it seem as if the customer was about to enter a happy, celebratory atmosphere. Nope. Angry. Just like everyone else seems to be in this town. The service isn't the best, but it isn't the worst. Just angry. The food here is quite good. I had the Fajita salad. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. The overall dish was super tasty and fresh. But when my server handed it to me without warning, the plate must have been four hundred degrees. Burned my hand. See? Angry. Not even saying that she meant to burn me. But no apologies, either. Angry. I sat and sat waiting for my bill. It never came. Turns out you have to walk up to the counter and pay without a bill. Did my server tell me? Heck no. Angry. Was I overcharged? I don't know. I never saw the bill. I have no idea what I was charged for. Now, I go to a place for the food. And the food here is really good. And, quite frankly, you're going to run into angry people anywhere nearby, anyway. It's Burkesville. So, if I gotta take angry, I want my food to be good. I'd go back. Just don't expect service with a smile. Angry.

One of the worst experiences we have ever had at a restaurant. We all got sick after eating here. Alcoholic drinks are severely watered down. Vodka tasted like water. You will not get an itemized bill, you will pay whatever they charge you for at the register because even though it's a sit down restaurant, you need to get up and pay at the exit. I will leave you with a picture of my steak quesadilla.

This establishment is the best bang for your dollar in Burkesville. Forget Pizza Hut, this restaurant serves tasty, quick dishes for next to nothing. We frequent El Rey every year on the 127 yard sale. This year we ordered chips and queso sauce to start, which came out piping hot with crispy chips. Next we ordered the Fajitas Texas, the #1 Special, and Steak Tempiquenos. All the meat came out seasoned just right, hot, and seared on the grill perfectly. Our rice, refried beans, and cheese were warm compliments to our entrees. The pico de gallo, guacamole, lettuce, and sour cream were chilled and perfect contrasts to the warm plates. Overall, the host and waiters were fast and friendly and made our stay enjoyable. We highly recommend El Rey to all locals and visitors!

When I go to a Mexican place I always judge based on the salsa and cheese dip...this place has done it with both! The salsa was good and spicy, but not too spicy you couldn't eat it. And the cheese dip was the same way, ate it up, no leftovers!! I had the Chile Colorado-perfectly cooked steak and seasonings. Mom had the tostada and she loved it! Generous portions, we didn't leave hungry! Definitely coming back!

Good food, good service, very decorated for holidays. Decent price. Have been here several times now and never had a problem other than they forgot to bring my kid her sour cream once, one of my tamales was soggy, and instead of a cheese enchilada we were given a meat one once but the meat enchiladas are good as well so we didn't bother mentioning any of those problems to them since most of the time we have no problems

In town on business and decided to try this place. Parking lot is small but there is a shopping center next door for parking. Went in about 3:30PM and there were only two other customers. Sat at the bar and was waited on quickly. They have a full bar.Had the Chilli Verde and had them grill jalapeños and put with the pork meat. It was very good. I would recommend this restaurant.

This restaurant was located across the street and had pretty good food, I would have rated it a 4. Unfortunately when they moved and expanded the restaurant is nicer but I think the food quality has dropped a notch. Its still the only place for miles to get Mexican food but it could be improved back to where it was. Its pretty bland Americanized food. Can we get a little more authentic Mexican food on the menu please...

What a pleasant experience. They food was very good, nicely presented and a descent price. I am picky about my margaritas and will be back for another. The service great, we were asked more than once by different employees if we were satisfied. If you like Mexican food make sure to stop at El Rey the next time you are in Burkesville. You will not be disappointed.
