I'm very glad this spot has become something more than what seemed to be an eye sore for many years and surviving a pandemic on top of that.My first visit was right before the Pandemic stuck in 2020. I had visited Union 15 first. Being a pizza lover I had to give it a shot. It is good pizza but, the garlic knots are probably the best thing there. I like that they have many local beers on tap. I remember talking the person behind the bar and how he looked forward to this place growing w/ Iroquois park across the street and the events that take place there during the summer. I went back again for the shuttle pick up for Tailspin last year and this year. Then Covid happened and I hadn't made my way back until Tailspin this year for the shuttle pick up. I definitely recommend Union 15 if you're a pizza lover and beer lover, especially local beer. There is also a Taco Luchador, I hadn't been to this location but have been to their Baxter Ave location. Biscuit Belly and B.A. Colonial I haven't been to either places but, plan on making it to those places someday. Overall I'm really impressed with how Colonial Gardens has turned out. I hope they continue to grow and do great things. These businesses have survived a pandemic in which most places are still trying to bounce back or have closed. Definitely a great place to support local businesses if you're in the area or at an event at Iroquois park. Two thumbs up on Colonial Gardens.

Really cool concept to help build the south end for the future. Colonial Gardens was considered a historic area already but has been basically deserted for several years. So they have rebuilt it into a venue that will be the home for a handful of new and exciting food establishments and pubs. They currently have a pizza joint called "union 15" and the rapidly growing Taco Luchador. Per the website they are expecting to add a breakfast restaurant called "biscuit belly". Which currently has one location in Nulu that is very popular and tasty. They have done an incredible job of adding unique artwork and designs while paying homage to the south end area. One of my favorite things (or will be) about this project is all the restaurants and pubs will share an open beer garden. Which is a really cool concept. Major kudos and props to the brains and designers of this project. I think it will have a huge positive impact on the south end of Louisville.

Tacos, pizza, and biscuits is what you will find here soon enough. What more could one want? Beer? Well, they have that too.Located in the South End of Louisville, across from Iroquois Park, Colonial Gardens started out as a park, over a century ago, where people would dine, dance, enjoy a picnic, or attend an event. Decades later, a zoo was added to the park, which was the predecessor to the Louisville Zoo. After the zoo went bust in 1939, it was made into a restaurant and given its present name. Colonial Gardens featured live entertainment and it was reported that both Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis unofficially performed here. I never saw it in its heyday. During my lifetime, I've only seen an old and sad place in need of a new life. Until now. It's been given a new life and purpose very similar to its first concept. With two restaurants, Taco Luchador and Union 15, already up and running, and Biscuit Belly set time open this year, Colonial Gardens is off to a great start. I love both Taco Luchador and Biscuit Belly, and Union 15 looks promising based on Yelp reviews. I look forward to trying the pizza there. The restaurants share a common courtyard patio area and beer garden that is a nice feature. It's a great use of space. They have a parking lot with off-street parking, but during busy times, I bet it gets full fast, as it's not a huge lot due to lack of real estate. Colonial Gardens is a great concept and attempt to repurpose and restore a historical landmark. The South End is lucky to have it, and I hope it succeeds. (Edited original review.)

I'm so glad there is a venue like this in the south end! I have met my friends here several times. Depending on my mood, I'll have pizza at Union 15 or tacos at Taco Luchador. I still haven't had Biscuit Belly. The best part is that we can all choose something different!

So very happy to see the amount of attention and funding this place has received for the comprehensive renovation and expansion. Now a true gem serving the Iroquois Park area and south Louisville!
