This was our second stop while travelling through. Last time I had very good tacos al pastor. This time I changed up with tacos de carnitas. I am not a raw onion eater, so just have them with cilantro. There were excellent, served on lightly fried corn tortillas. The pork was shredded and was moist and flavorful. It was properly salted. They provide a tart tomatillo-avocado sauce and a red chile sauce. Both are good and I pretty much finished them off. This is a much better and more authentic place than the ubiquitous El Nopals or the nearby El Camino Real. Those are fine for what they are, but this is more like eating home-cooking. If I plan our trips properly, this is where we will eat for lunch and dinner going coming from St Louis to the OBX.

We started eating here when it first opened and were very impressed. The food was very good as well as the service. However, it seems to have steadily declined in quality. Initially they had the best salsa in town, thick, chunky and not too spicy. However, this evening we received 2 bowls of what was pretty much just juice. It was around 6:45 on a Sunday evening so I suspect they were running low and added tomato juice to make it last through the end of the day instead of making more. My meal was great but hubby believes they overcook the proteins every time we go, which dries them out and makes them chewy. I guess they are scared of undercooking meat and having someone get sick; this is complicated understandable, but leads me to believe that the cooks aren't well trained. Also, they have taped higher prices (again, completely understandable) over the menu, but don't seem to remember what those prices are. When our check came it was $10 more than it should have been. When I inquired I felt like they thought I was stupid and couldn't do math. They re-calculated the bill and it came out CHEAPER than it should have been. I am bi-lingual and a bookkeeper, so I think I am not too dumb. They apologized for the mistake. Apparently they are not using the POS system which would have the correct prices programmed in when I asked why they said that register was for cash only. how did they know we were paying with card? Seems a bit shady to me. Due to declining quality and inconsistent prices, we probably won't be back. Be warned to take a magnifying glass (they also need a new calculator ribbon) to doubl-check the math. Sad, since the other Mexican restaurants in our little town are all owned by the same family and their food tastes the same at all 3.

First visit today for lunch (four of us). Nice decor; friendly staff; excellent menu choices. We had two lunch "Speedy Gonzales" plates (taco, enchilada, beans & rice) and two chimichangas. Very good....prefer the chimichangas more crispy and will request next visit. Hot sauce had nice kick. Very reasonable prices.

First visit to Cilantro tonight for my wife and me. The place was busy but we were quickly seated. Chips and salsa came quickly. The chips are average, but the salsa is the best in town....robust with a hint of garlic and diced jalapeños. I had the beef chimichanga with added guacamole and the wife had the chicken quesadilla. The guacamole was rich and smooth, and the included refried beans were also smooth and tasty. The chimichanga wasn't huge, but was stuffed full and covered with queso cheese. The quesadilla was also huge, stuffed full of chicken, fried onions, mushrooms, and peppers. We both left very satisfied for a total bill of $30 including drinks and tip. The bonus: a homeless guy comes in with a big backpack and asks for some free food.....and the manager serves him a full dinner plated to go. My wife thanked the manager as we left. We will return.

This was less than "meh". My wife and I were in Winchester to do some riding in the Daniel Boone National Forest and we decided to give it a try based on the Google reviews (which were very good). Should have listened to Yelp - even though it had far fewer reviews - and the obvious lack of customers (for even a Wednesday night). Everything was bland, with no salt or seasoning whatsoever. I didn't think you could really mess up shrimp fajitas and chicken tacos but they found a way. Even the rice and beans were flavorless. The staff was nice enough, which is why I didn't give it one star. Try somewhere else if you want local Mexican.

I decided to order take out today and was my first time eating from this restaurant. I ordered Famous town chicken and it was delicious. The chicken was well seasoned with plenty of rice and cheese. It came with a side of chips and salsa. I also ordered a large horchata and it was tasty and refreshing. Everything was as expected, ordering was easy, food was ready quickly and the meal and drink did not disappoint. I will definitely go back soon and hope to try other items on their menu. Staff was friendly and very attentive.

In a town full of Mexican restaurants this one definitely stands out. The food is very good with a few selections that you won't find at the other restaurants. The best thing about this place, especially compared to the other local establishments is the service. We have been here when they are very busy and also when they were not and the level of service is always very good.

Was great when they first opened. The food was great, service was good. Now the quality of the food is somewhat poor. The service is lacking. I don't think we'll be returning.
