Bub's Burgers & Ice Cream

Let's start with the parking.. drive through down town Bloomington at 2pm and it's so hard to find parking. The college kids are everywhere and the one way streets along with construction makes it a mess. Bub's has parking and the pay meters are cheap. I think it's only a dollar an hour. Bubs is close to downtown without all the inconveniences. At 2pm today, we got right in. We each had a Vanilla Coke and split a burger and fry then followed with ice cream. The burger was delicious and juicy. Sorry, I devoured it too quick to get a picture. We had a great time playing uno while waiting for our food, although it didn't take long to get our food. Our waiter was nice and the restaurant is clean. I do recommend bringing a sweat shirt. It was freezing in there. Also, prices are reasonable. Receipt as pictured.

After a day of travel and work, we searched for a burger place and discovered Bub's. (Sort of a famous place???)The town and campus were empty on the summer evening. We had no problem finding a table. The greeter was pleasant and willing to talk about the burger challenge. Nice guy. (5* attitude). The burgers were 3* - 3.5* I thought my beef patties were good, but far from exceptional. Others liked the buns. blah...I tried to imagine this joint on a Fri or Sat night during the school year. I assume it is pretty wild. This evening, quiet and boring. Even the TVs weren't on. Sports???Have to try this place again when things are hopping.

Came in at about 6p yesterday, Saturday, for the first time. Pros- Nice interior, with plenty of seating (and also have outdoor seating.- Burgers had great flavor overall (the seasoning was good)- Homemade buns were super yummy-Sweet potato fries w/marshmellow sauce were greatCons- Prices were a bit steep. For a .25lb elk burger, and half pound steak and egg burger with one side fries, and one sweet potato fries, it was $55. It was good, but a bit pricy for what you get. (Side of fries, or anything else cost extra, fyi)- Eh on the service. Started ok, but went down a little.Be warned you do have to pay to park.

I'll start out by saying that I'm not a burger fan. However, we came here with friends and I loved it. Had the Steak and Egg Settle for Less Burger and my spouse had the Elk Settle for Less Ugly Burger. I took her onions and put them on my burger. Both were great, as were the fries. Ts a really cool atmosphere, the walls are covered by photos of people who've eaten their massive pound+ burgers. Good service. Parking right outside, and since we went on Sunday, metered parking is free. Go there.

This place is in the shadow of IU's main campus. There is metered street parking available, within across the street and within a reasonable walking distance. They have a decent sized dining area, divided into a couple of areas and a small patio area in the back. The dining area has a few televisions around that were playing sports while I was there. You can just skip the restaurant and head to the left of the entrance and you will be at the ice cream shop where you can get shakes and hand scooped ice cream. As the restaurants name implies they are known for their burgers. They have a wide assortment of burgers, which you can get with beef or elk meat and 1/4 or 1/2 pound. Decisions, decisions. If burgers are not your thing then they also have wings, salads, chicken sandwiches, and mahi sandwiches. They also have a kids menu with chicken fingers, corndogs, and PB&J, grilled cheeses, uncrustables, The restaurant offers beer and wine for those care to indulge.This restufrant is home to the "Big Ugly Challenge." During one sitting you can eat 1 to 5, 1.5 pound burgers. If you finish one, then you get your picture on the wall and the the rewards and cost goes up with each burger, which costs $26 per burger. By the look of all the photos on the wall, the challenge does not look that difficult. But no vomiting in the batroom though. Someone sitting at the table next to me got disqualified for doing just that.The staff there is friendly enough. My server was very friendly. My only issue with her was that she was a bit hard to find when I was looking to get my check. I waited a lot longer than normal. I ordered a Bub's Creole Burger (1/4 pound elk), with waffle fries. I got chicken fingers kids meal for one of my littles and a PB&J kids meal for the other. It took about 12 minutes for us to get our food. My kids liked the chicken tenders and were not huge fans of the PB&J.My sandwich was pretty good. I can not really tell the difference between beef and elk, I would probably go with beef next time. Anyway, I can never leave here without getting my littles a treat. One got a shake and the other got some ice cream.This restaurant has a lot of personality. The food is decent and they have many exotic options of burgers and fries to choose from. I hope to make it back here real soon.

Very good!! Went in for dinner during the summer while my kiddo was at IU for orientation. Not busy, which was interesting since their food was both fresh and tasty. Wish I had snapped a pic of my meal, but inhaled it all before I considered it lolI ordered the "settle for less ugly" quarter pound burger and the sweet potato fries. The burger was less than $10, which these days is saying A LOT on value! I was pleasantly surprised. Katie was our server and very attentive and knowledgeable about the specials. She asked my daughter if she wanted flavoring for her drink, and my daughter said it was really good and tasted "just like Sonic"...in the best way ever...IYKYK Will return when we visit Bloomington!(Also love the pics all over the place! Makes it have a homey feel)

So freaking inconsistent. Ordered takeout (photo of receipt attached). Fish sandwich with cheese, fish sandwich without cheese, and onion rings "extra crispy" and coleslaw. Gave a 20% tip, for a carryout order, which we have been doing for carry out since 2020 and COVID. Got our almost $60 lunch home. No cheese on the sandwich. Onion rings were not crispy. Super disappointed. Gave almost a $9 tip-FOR WHAT? Called and spoke to a person who said she was the manager (Chelsea?). She said the kitchen screwed up and she would credit us back part of the order. Just looked at my credit card statement, and was not credited. So guess I will need to call back. Bub's has been very inconsistent for awhile now. It used to be great, and now I hesitate to continue patronizing them. Very disappointed.

While the size of the burgers is certainly admirable, I have never felt the quality was as impressive. By no means are the burgers bad, but I would consider them pretty average.

Very good burger was excellent quality and flavor. The sides kept me from giving 5stars. Sweet potato waffle fries were not that good and very pricy for the size of the order. Regular fries were also pricy and small portion. Milk shake was also very good but at $11.95 way overpriced. Sides of dressings were all .50 but should be free based on overpriced food.The young server was very nice and enthusiastic. But needs to back off a bit and let you enjoy your meal. Overall good but pricy. Would come back for burger only even at the high price.

Automatically adds 18% tip after medium high prices for medium quality food. You pay then they run after you saying you didn't pay!!!
