First trip but won't be the last. Getting a burger with fries and a drink for $7 is great, but even better when the burger is actually cooked well and seasoned! The wings were crispy and perfectly cooked, and my partner 's catfish filet special was exactly what she was craving when looking for a piece of fried fish. Service was excellent; owner and chef welcomed us and introduced himself and explained the menu. Sides were good too, with collard greens being excellent and the Mac and cheese being creamy and smooth; my criticism of needing a little more salt or a sharper cheese resolved by a squirt of hot sauce.The place is more of a sports bar in layout, with a TV and booths, and not too big, but the food would be fine for takeout too. I will say that parking is limited, about five spots, and one side of Seventh St. is for parking too. The building is also set back from the road so you can pass it easily. But for soul food and bar staples, definitely worth the trip (I sort of wonder why they don't have a liquor license).

I've been here a few times. I don't eat soul food regularly, just once in a while. I do think this is the best soul food in Lex though! They have a lot of options of what to get that change. Pick a meat and 2 sides. Eat there or order on the phone if you're more of a regular. I went just a little before Thanksgiving and got this Turkey and gravey with stuffing and cabbage. Very good and satisfying. A little saltier than I'd prefer, but that's common with restaurants. Will go again the next time I'm craving soul food. I've dined in once with a friend, and gotten take out 3 times I think.

Absolute phenomenal food, literally the best food I have ever eaten in my entire life. The staff was amazing and very welcoming, the chef even came out to see if we were satisfied. If im ever back in that area again, I will definately go back there. I could eat that food for every single meal and never get tired of it. I usually don't leave reviews, but I had to let others know what they would be missing out on if they didn't go eat there while in the area.

The food here is fantastic. We had fish, steak, shrimp, and smoked lamb chops. Sides included greens, baked beans, fries, and cabbage like you've never tasted. Flavors are excellent in every dish. This is a gem. Owners and son are very personable. You will return.

This place is soooooo good! Went to Blue Skillet with my family and tried the Salmon croquettes with macaroni and cheese and green beans. The mac and cheese was delicious!!! The croquettes were full of flavor. I will definitely be coming back to try more or take care of any cravings! The service was friendly and pretty fast for how busy they were. We came in at the lunch rush.Small parking lot but street parking is available.

Well I had high hopes for this home cookin' restaurant but sorry to say I'm disappointed. It's hard for a family owned business to compete with franchises and it's showing itself this place. The menu is very minimal with certain home cooked foods completely left out. I feel like some of these items are from a can l, not fresh. Hopefully I'm incorrect. I know home cooking is not precise each time you make them. As an example; I don't want greens juice, I want greens. Please use a slotted spoon or just be sure to drain before serving. The one thing I wanted to try more than anything was the hoecakes and salmon croquettes. You can't get these at many places. No hoecakes that day. I'm used to mine and even my kids love them. So it's hard to please me. The food overall was good for eating out, but I need to try some other dishes. Where's the fried chicken, lima beans, creamed corn, sweet potatoes, sautéed squash, zuchinni, and tomato, potato salad, cole slaw, bbq ribs, and lots of other sides and entrees. Still as good as I remember it! Salmon croquettes and grape kool aid is a winner. Dining in gives you a wonderful feeling of the best of Black Lexington, too. Definitely feels like home every time.

I'm so happy I found this jewel in Lexington. It's a small family-owned business where Chef Blue welcomed us with a huge smile. The menu is small but top-notched with flavor and pizzazz.

We've got 3 kids 4,3,and 1 year olds and I'm pregnant with our 4th. Was so tired of fast food & other restaurants, craving some country cooking. This place NAILED IT. There was NOTHINg left on our plates. I got the salmon cakes (croquettes) dinner with greens and pan fried cornbread (cornbread batter fried like a pancake---out of this world!). Also ordered the baked beans & potato salad and they were !!!! Hubby ordered the steak & shrimp ( he's a steak snob and said this steak & shrimp was AMAZING several times. He wants to order it again next time. Our boys loved the steak & shrimp but also loved the chicken tenders & fries & Mac n cheese too!Now the people & service matched the food. Friendly people that welcomed our rowdy bunch in like family (no high chair for the 1yo but he ran around the place & made friends with everyone and no one minded. We felt SO at home here). This place needs franchised it's so good. Blows everything I've had in Lexington out of the water. We WILL be back to Lexington, even if it's just to eat here!! So so good!

The best!!!!, real food cooked like you would have at home.freindly service, hell the place had a t.v I could watch the game ,plus a chess board even met a guy and had a great game!
