Wish I could bottle the smell of this candy factory from the parking lot & share it with everyone! The smell takes me back to reading the book Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. For 120 years, Anna's family passed this amazing recipe down & after working in her parents basement she now sells all over the world, even to Williams Sonoma. And now Vegas regularly. I'd rather visit the factory when in Kentucky cause they make the candies & package them freshly for you right there. Also to visit w/ Anna, she's such a wonderful passionate woman. Huge fan of the Bourbon Sea Salt Caramels mmm... perfect amount of salt to keep you wanting another piece. The Chocolate Modjeska's are what I wish I had for my s'mores since I was a lil kid! The Original Caramel Modjeska's are not only divine alone, but quarter them & the Bourbon Seat Salt on top of your sweet potatoes. Oh, heavens! Homemade, down to the marshmallow in the middle and I'll never like regular store bought marshmallows again. Also we got a recipe for the Modjeska's from the Food Network. Perfect lil gift from the heart & soul of Kentucky & for yourself & loved ones. I have been a regular since October & have gifted many people including my horse grooms cause I wanna share it w/ everyone. Mmm it's so good!

Stop by to purchase candies and for a quick tour!Anna is wonderful and her family owned candy company is a worthy stop for:A. Modjeskas Fans (carmel wrapped marshmallows...strangely addictive)B. Quirky Adventurers looking for an intersting stop while driving by Lawrenceburg Kentucky . This is a 30minute detour where you can watch almost-homemade candy making and get delicous treats.C. Bourbon tasters (not far from Four Roses, Buffalo Trace, etc etc) it's on the way, seriously, stop and buy some candy. Delicious with bourbon.Small operation, very friendly people, generous sampling, and fair factory prices. We were in the area and looking to stock up on Modjeskas when we found out the factory was on our way to our next destination. So happy we stopped by.Don't expect a highly automated production factory -- look fresh marshmallows, hand dipped in delicious melted caramel, then wrapped into square packets of joy. Yum. All made from scratch by them.WARNING: Do NOT trust Google Maps or GPS to get you all the way here -- online maps screw up directions, recommend you read the simple instructions from the Bauer's Candies website.

I emailed ahead of time asking about a tour. Unfortunetly, tours weren't available becuase they were very busy. We stopped by anyways after staying at Lawrenceburg Bed and Breakfast and getting a sample of the Modjeskas in our room. Delicious! It's a factory, not a storefront. You are still able to buy carmels, Modjeskas and chocolate modjeskas. All good! The owner was very nice and even let us sample the Pumpkin Pie Spice Modjeskas....only available at William Sonoma. We were able to buy them too! Very tasty treats.

Their "Modjeskas" are to die for. I'm not much of a fan of the taste of chocolate, but after sampling one at my wife's insistence, I was hooked on the combination of flavors. We will be regular customers. What really impressed me, though, was that they accidentally shorted me on my order. I realize that mistakes do occasionally happen, so when I notified them about the problem, Anna, the owner of Bauer's, apologized and that same day shipped me the missing 2 boxes. There was no questioning of me or of what may have happened, she just trusted me and my personal honesty. These days, unfortunately, trust is in too short supply. She followed up to insure that my supplemental order arrived on time and that I was fully satisfied with the order and service. In a word . . . totally. So, if you enjoy the taste of chocolate, caramel, and marshmallow, you need not go any farther in your search than right here with Bauer's "Modjeskas".
