Love the Barrel of Fun for its affordable tasty ice cream served out of a building that looks like a barrel. Recent Warm Spring day drove up and sign said "closed until early May 2024"! We will be back

Long time staple of the Louisville Ice cream scene. This fun location with the actual barrel as the building has been serving hot dogs, burgers and ice cream treats to the highview area of Louisville for a very long time. Very quaint and cutesy location with the design. For as long as it has been in the area I have never visited until last night. A few times over the last 15 years or so I stopped in to grab an ice cream but they were always cash only. And I never carry cash. I recently found out they accept cards now so I made a return visit last night. I had heard this place has good food. So we ate real food first. I personally got a cheeseburger and it lived up to the hype. Very good. Nice meat and cheese and the burger had a very good salt flavor too it without being overbearing. My oldest daughter got the Cheeseburger as well and liked it a lot. My second youngest daughter and niece got a hot dog and nachos to share and my wife shared a pretzel with the baby. Second oldest was at practice so she missed out. Nachos were just ok. My niece said the hot dog was good she gave it a big ole thumbs up. And the wife enjoyed her pretzel. Overall the food portion cost us $19. So not bad at all. And they got it out to us in about 5-7 min. So good speed too and food was fresh. After the main course we circled back and got ice creams. I personally got a brown derby chocolate on chocolate. Which is a personal favorite of mine when ice cream places offer it. My oldest got a banana split, my second youngest and niece got a vanilla ice cream in a cup with m&ms on top (the worker stated they normal don't do that since they offer flurries but made an exception this time), and the wife got a hot fudge cake. Overall it cost right over $17. So once again not bad pricing and they got it out within a few minutes. The kids all liked there ice creams and banana split. My wife's hot fudge cake was amazing. I'd highly recommend that and the next time I go it's absolutely what I'm getting. My brown derby was good. Usually local places over these chocolate crusted chocolate cones and play off the Kentucky "derby" fame. It was pretty good. Not the best one I have had as the chocolate on the outside was not very thick or hard so it broke away easy and melted fast despite it only being barely 50 degrees outside. But it was still tasty. Overall great experience. Very good food and ice cream and very cool location to take the family for a good time. They have plenty of patio space with picnic tables and most of it is covered to keep out weather elements. So that is nice. I can see why it is a long time staple of the area. And now that they take credit cards like a legit business should I'll gladly come by more often for cheeseburgers and ice cream.

My family and I stopped in here tonight for some ice cream fun. I do not eat much sweets so it's big for me to get an ice cream. I got a waffle cone vanilla and chocolate swirl. It was really good and tasty. I couldn't eat it all so I should have gotten the small but it was great. My wife and kids enjoyed their treats as well. We all gave it a 5

I've passed this gem many times to my trips to nearby McNeeley lake. It was a hot summer day so why not give this place a try and the lines weren't very long as well. The only kicker here is this place is cash only and didn't realize until I actually got there. I had a short amount of cash on me so I decided to go with a Vanilla milkshake. I got a small one and it tasted just like any other vanilla milkshake. This place has a Place Order and a Pick up window. That's nice to have to avoid any confusion. The service was friendly and fast. I do hear it can get very crowded but, that depends on what day you come. I will be back to try more things and to make sure I have enough cash on me for the next time lol.

The portions were large and the prices were reasonable. The environment was family friendly but it was extremely hard to hear and communicate with the employees behind the counter and when I went to pick up my order I was handed the wrong order in addition to part of the correct order and the employees acted like it was my fault entirely and not as if they had done anything wrong! They also proceeded to immediately hand the order to the correct patron, without even asking them if they wanted to wait for the order to be remade? In this day and time, if someone is touching my food container and they don't work at the establishment....I don't think I'd be comfortable feeding it to my family or eating it myself!! After all it was just icecream in a cup and could have easily been remade!! We were not impressed!

Hands down the best ice cream place in Louisville. We love the hot fudge cake and strawberry shortcake they are both to die for good! They have hamburgers,pretzels,handscooped ice cream, and so many other goodies! Don't miss put on this place it stays busy for a reason, and they know how to handle a big crowd and get people through quickly and very nice staff. I believe it's family owned, but not quite sure.

Such a great place. They have quite a few items besides ice cream, but ice cream is the bomb! Friendly atmosphere. Love The Barrel!

A looooooong line at this kind of place generally means GOOD. THINGS. The Barrel of Fun did not disappoint.Really good ice cream, reasonably priced and quick staff.
