Who knew that there was a huge gym that trains folks for the circus located right down the road from the Water Tower?!? Not me and I grew up across the street from this place. A quick disclaimer - my review is more an overview as I was there for an event not a paid class.Last weekend, I had the opportunity to attend an event with the Louisville independent Business Association (LIBA) at Turners. LIBA had several of the instructors available to show folks how to do beginner moves on the equipment which included silks, trapeze bars, and hanging hoops. I'm getting over a cold, so didn't try it out for myself, but everyone who did had a great time! The instructors were so helpful (and flexible) with participants ranging in age from grade school to senior citizens. They demonstrated how to use the apparatus and then talked people through the basics. During a talk later in the evening, one volunteer said that the club has been producing a circus for over 60 years and that people of all ages participate. She had taken up aerial training in her 30s after having two kids! The friend that went with me was interested in a private session so we checked out their brochure. They offer memberships, classes, birthday parties, and private sessions all at very low cost (way below most gym or club memberships). We had such a great time watching other people try it out, I think we'll be organizing a ladies' night soon so we can see if we're up for the challenge!

I received a pair of tickets through a Yelp giveaway and attended the annual Turner's Circus. This very unassuming club ended being a really cool place and I absolutely plan to return. This is NOT a circus with animals or any kind of cruelty-its a family circus...meaning that anyone can either join the Turner's group or sign up for individual classes and learn how to do cool acrobatics like silks, ladders, and the trapeze. My understanding was that this event was open to all performers from Turners and the ages of performers ranged from just 3 years old to 73. When they say its family event, they mean it. Not only is it appropriate for all ages to watch, families actually get involved together and do classes together. Dad and daughter, sisters, or the whole gang and learn a new skill, get fit together, and perform together. I don't know of any other gym where that is really encouraged and everyone can actually have a great time together. Its affordable, too!So this event...it was really fun. The music was loud and New Orleans-themed. Seating was bleacher-style. Concessions were available and CHEAP. Best of all, every act had multiple people involved so there was always a lot going on and a lot to watch. We saw FIRE EATING. Where else in Louisville can you see that? It was really inspiring to see so many people of various ages and sizes coming together and performing at once. Its incredible what the body can do. What a great gem of a place right here in the Ville. Now I want to take a class!

Kentucky Kick Down was held at Turners this year. What a great venue! Lots more space than on Barrett. The camping area was huge, the pool was open ( and needed!), bowling, and a movie at night. There was am area for the drag racing (awesome) and urn outs. Looking forward to going next year hopefully Turners will host again! Shout out to the guys that organized this! Great job!

I've only ever gone here as a spectator. They occasionally put on shows featuring their students and instructors doing amazing feats up on rings, silks, suspended ladders, and other gear. It's a tremendous amount of fun. There's a lounge on the floor below the gym that has a full bar. Get yourself a beverage, go upstairs, and watch the show. If you have a chance to go, you should go. It's a lot of fun.

I've been to the Turner's club for a number of different things: multiple flow arts classes (poi and hoop), baton twirling lessons, a Yelp Elite event and recently the Turner's Circus (I won tickets thanks to Yelp!) I feel really lucky to have such a unique place in Louisville. Actually, I've found that most people have never heard of it. I think it used to be a lot nicer about 30-40 years ago- sadly it's pretty run down in every other area aside from the main gymnasium space. I've really enjoyed everything I've had the chance to participate at the Turners Club, aside from the baton twirling lessons, which were kind of poorly run. It was their first time having that particular class, though, and I don't think it continued. I practice flow arts, such as (hula) hooping and poi, and whenever there is any kind of special event for anything like that they are usually held at the Turners Club. I'd recommend checking out their events throughout the year, just for fun. There's plenty of chances to try out new circus and flow arts, and at least you can get a taste of the skills to see if you'd like to pursue them any further.

This place and organization does a great job with training kids in gymnastics and aerial circus. Social activities, sports, and a full size pool with a diving board are it's strengths. Weakness is that it is a little beat up but people who join can make a difference here!

This is by far the best way to work out! It works your whole body, no two classes are ever the same so you're not bored, and it IS SO MUCH FUN! The instructors are patient and knowledgeable, and I've made many new friends. They help you learn at your pace, and we all cheer each other on- such positive atmosphere!

I may go 1.5 stars, but that's it.On the surface, this seems like a good place. However, the more you get involved, the worse you see it gets. They have a saying around there, "Turners is a club run by its members." Two things wrong with that. One, even though one employee might have one assigned director, since "Turners is a club run by its members", the employees end up having several de facto directors telling employees what to do. Second, that person assigned to direct the employees, most of the time, they don't have the experience themselves to be in charge of the area they are charged with in the first place.Example, Turners use to be the place for gymnastics in Louisville. It's not there anymore.
