Al-Taj Bakery

Absolutely delicious!! Super kind service!!The owner is friendly and one can see how much he cares about his craft in the way he describes each item, offers to taste, and the presentation of the store. On our way from Chicago to South Carolina and Florida we stopped in Lexington and I had to try this highly-rated bakery. I stumbled into Al-Taj while looking for artesian bread and twisted my husband's arm to make a stop before our resting destination in town. My husband patiently waited in the car as I talked with the owner and selected various goodies. The owner was very polite and helpful, we had a delightful conversation and generously offered me two cups of Arabic coffee, one for my husband. The coffee was delicious, bold, and strong. The menu is extensive and they will prepare food when ordering. I was in a bit of a rush, trying to be considerate of my husband, so I selected items that were already prepared. So far the few treats that I had this evening were delectable - baklava, Fresh Baklava with cream ( وربات بالقشطة ), and various types of Turkish Delight (pistachio and caramel). I'm looking forward to tasting the rest tomorrow - Fresh dates cookies, Ghee cookies, Oreo Turkish Delight, and some savory items Fresh spinach pie with feta cheese and spinach pie with pomegranate molasses. So far Excellent all-around experience. I'm so glad I leave 6.5 hours away, otherwise I'll be in big trouble Oh yea I have to go back tomorrow to try the Fresh semolina cake!

Continues to be AMAZING!!! The baklava flavourful, crispy, crunchy, and soft. It's light with a density and crispness. Pistachio is amazing, yet the cinnamon and walnut remains my favoruite. There's a depth to it!This was one of the most lovely service visits I've had anywhere in a while. I was given a pistachio Turkish delight to try and wow wow wee!! It's so interesting, not sweet at all, and yet very candy like. Yes please! I also had the date roll and knew it would be hard, but didn't enjoy quite how hard the inside was. It wasn't like a jam or even easy to bite into. But the outside was perfect. Almost like a sesame hard pretzel.Come here!!!

Went in for the pistachio chocolate and ended up getting some baklava too. The owner was a very nice man, he gave me a cookie and some coffee to try too! Eating my Dubai chocolate now and it is soooo good!

One of those smaller strip mall places on the edge of town, but this place was as good as I could have hoped for in a part of the country where this sort of thing (an Arabic bakery) is not exactly easy to find.They had both savory and sweet options, and the owner turned down the music a bit to explain them to me. Faced with a choice of getting a spinach pie with feta or one with pomegranate molasses, I couldn't choose and got both. Their large sweet selection allows one to pick from many flavors and you get a slice to your liking and pay by weight. They offered matcha pistachio, and it was an intriguingly subtle flavor with a delightful spice dusting on the outside. I was intrigued by some other options as they had za'atar pies and cupcakes as well, but that was enough food for one outing.The flavors were different than anything else you'd get around here, and it's definitely worth trying something.

They definitely have the best baklava around. Just the right amount of sweetness, flakiness, rose water, etc in their product. I have had some really good and really bad baklava. Their pistachio baklava is one of the best I have had. I also ordered a Zatar pie that was delicious! The gentleman that owns this place really cares about his product and I hope that he will continue. I do wish this was a cafe so that you could sit at a small round table and take your time but it's not really set up for that lingering enjoyment. I am glad Lexington has some good Mediterranean establishments.

I like to have a little something with my afternoon tea. I decided to sto by Al Taj and try something new. The Tea Biscuits were a good choice. Also, I purchased a date ring which will make a nice breakfast. Such mice owners, too. 86

My daughter stopped in to get baklava for a gift and brought some home as well. She was thrilled to find it was safe for her to eat since she has a dairy allergy and was so pleased with the service here. We willHave to stop in to try other goodies from this shop!

Have heard so many positive reviews I had to stop in, and I am so glad I did. I tried a little bit of just about everything: baklava, semolina cake, date cookies, ghryabeh (a shortbread cookie), and a variety of the Turkish delights. Everything was delicious. I honestly can't pick a favorite because everything was delicious and I am looking forward to going back to try some of their savory items.
