Went to see the Color Purple play. It was magnificent. The theater is really nice and there are tons of restrooms. It is a nice theater.

The "crypt cleaners" cleaning up the blood at intermission during Dracula

How have I never reviewed Actors Theatre of Louisville?!? A Louisville institution! I most recently attended "Dracula", which has been on my Louisville bucket list for quite a while. In the before times (before COVID), ATL's production of Dracula was a thing of legends, with copious blood, screaming and other bone-chilling delights. Since then, ATL has done a bit of a rebranding, reaffirming its commitment to lift up a diverse array of voices and embrace emergent technology. So now, ATL stages "Dracula" as "a feminist revenge fantasy." And as someone who just listened to the audiobook of "Dracula," claps all around. The play was SOOO much better than the classic literature it's based on. Seriously, while listening to the book, if I had to hear again how Mina has a "man's brain" -- though she's the smartest one among them -- I was going to gag. Yet, I digress ... This staging featured a woman playing Van Helsing, a Dracula who was more menacing than bumbling, an actual dramatic ending (the original book's ending is so anticlimactic), a female Renfield that gave me goosebumps and Mina in all her bad-ass glory. Oh, and there was still lots of blood. If you go, be sure to keep an eye out for the "crypt cleaners" who come out at intermission to clean up the blood. This was also staged in the smaller Bingham Theatre, but considering the Bingham is theater in the round, it feels like "Dracula" is all around you. The cast uses this space to its full effect. The shows in the larger Pamela Brown Auditorium are also great. I have fond memories of great stagings of "Macbeth," "Our Town" and "At the Vanishing Point," which was set Louisville's Butchertown neighborhood and featured music by acclaimed Kentucky musician Ben Sollee. ATL puts so much intentionality into all that it does, and I appreciate it so much for this. Go and see a play there if you get the chance.

Visited Actor's for The Empire Strips Back burlesque show and it was absolutely fabulous! The show had a great cast of dancers and a funny MC. I'm not sure part of the audience was aware of what burlesque really was because the crowd was conservative and not as engaging as other shows I've been too. Seating was kind of confusing. The drinks and staff at the theatre were great - so friendly and helpful!I'm docking a point because the main restrooms have been made gender neutral - this wouldn't normally bother me but I think part of gender neutral should include keeping urinals open for men to use so that people can cycle through the stalls faster. I also felt uncomfortable when visiting the restroom during the show because I shared the empty restroom with a guy who made some forward comments; this made me concerned for my safety. Not sure of the best path forward as I do support gender neutral restrooms.

Always great shows and actors! Seen Dracula, Skeleton Crew & A Christmas Carol and all performances were first rate. First time I had EVER been to see Dracula and I must say it was beyond what I could ever have imagined. Completely fascinating and loved every minute of it. The actors all were very experienced and took their roles seriously and very professional. Such great talent, from the directing and support staff to the individual actors all the staff was very helpful and accommodating as well.

Attended a play here today and enjoyed the set up & performance. The parking garage that is attached takes you directly into the lobby which is nice for avoiding rain. It was only $10 to park and they had a person operating parking rather than rely on the machines. The theater is nice and there truly isn't a bad seat in the house. The seats themselves are decently wide compared to some older theater seats. The attendants were nice and it was a quick and easy process to get in with the scannable tickets. I am looking forward to returning for another performance.

It's been years since I've been back here!We parked in their garage because you can easily take the elevator down to the ticket booth. Parking is $10, but its worth it!!I enjoy the plays here. Lots of talented actors and the theater itself is nationally recognized. Bathrooms were a bit old school...There's a bar in the mezzanine with a few options but it does the job.One area featured art. Very cool! Can't wait to see another play!

While I haven't been a good local patron lately, I consider Actors a gem in the city. Years ago as a college student I used to volunteer as an usher, which let me see several seasons of theatre. The Christmas Carol was an annual family tradition for locals, then came Gift of the Magi and now Dracula. Actors holds 3 theaters, all unique in size and vibe. The Pamela Brown is the largest and most traditional with 2 levels. The Bingham is round and doesn't have a bad seat, nor does the intimate Victor Jory. It has an attached garage and restaurant downstairs. Street parking may also be available. Check out their website to learn about season tickets, rush tickets, behind the scenes events and costume sales.

Went to see the opening performance of this years Dracula. I've never been to this location before and was pleasantly surprised by the stadium seating and the smallness of the theatre itself. It is very quaint and I don't see where there is a bad seat in the house. I enjoyed the surrounding seating and the ability to see and hear so well. The staff was so friendly and professional and probably volunteering which in itself says a lot for this venue. The performance of Dracula was nothing short of amazing and the actors in my opinion could of gotten Oscars for their performances. I am so looking forward to going to another presentation at the Actors Theatre in not to distant future. Not only the theatre but the play Dracula was just what the doctor ordered.

I have always enjoyed myself at Actors Theatre over the years. If you like the theatre, then you will likely find this local one to be quite satisfactory. Smaller than Kentucky Center for the Arts and larger than the Bunbury, I think Actors has the perfect size. It's very quaint without feeling too homey. This last visit was to see A Christmas Carol, and we sat on the first row of the balcony. It was perfect, especially for a short person that hates having to look over top of some tall person's head. The play was a bit different from years ago, yet we thoroughly enjoyed it. The actors did a nice job, although there was a bit of artistic license taken in the writing and production. The deviation didn't shatter me, as I'm not a Dickens purist, but if one was, I could see it possibly being a bit of a disappointment. The parking was paid for in advance with the tickets purchase, which is easy and convenient. The parking deck is tight and made for those concerned about climate change and not the gas-guzzling land barge SUV we were in. We found a spot on an end, hugged the edge, and tried to prevent some Prius from dinging the doors. It all worked out. The staff and ushers were all pretty nice. The venue was clean and the seats were comfortable enough, especially considering their age. I look forward to returning again.
