Hands down one of the best breakfast experiences I've ever had. I recommend only going with one or two other people, if possible, because you have to wait in a line to be seated. I was a party of 2 on a Saturday at 11am and we were seated within 15-20 minutes, not bad at all. The line was worth it in my opinion. The diner atmosphere was so fun and really took me back in time. We ended up over-ordering. You can definitely split entrees here. The portions are huge! The little bit of soft serve ice cream that they gave us for free was so good I wanted to order a whole ice cream for myself, but I was stuffed. I loved this place and it's definitely a must-try in Chicago.

Lou Mitchell's was a great stop that I'm glad I made while visiting Chicago. The ambiance inside is great, it's a typical diner but you can definitely feel that it has some history. The service was also great. I came at 9:45 so while I was seated immediately, I wasn't able to get any of the freebies I had read about. The food came out quickly after ordering and the star of the meal was the pancake and something I would highly recommend. I ordered the Chicken Sausage Omelette but I think I got the Chicken Sausage Omelette Hobo style which I didn't mind. The omelette was good but nothing special like the pancake. I would definitely recommend splitting an omelette because the portion size was massive. The meal was a little pricey but if you split something I think it makes it well worth it.Overall, I think Lou Mitchell's made for a quick, and tasty breakfast stop while in Chicago.

This breakfast place is a real experience. Just in case you aren't aware, they invented the American breakfast as we know it. You need to go for that reason alone. Second reason: the coffee. It's just plain black diner-style coffee, but it's amazing. Third reason: the Bennie's. Their eggs Benedict is perhaps the best I've ever had. Perfect hollandaise. Fourth: the Malt Belgian Waffles. Go. Just go. Now. P.S. - our waiter was really funny and fast.

This place is THE best place in town for breakfast! The meals are affordable, and the portion sizes are VERY large. We split one breakfast entrée between the two of us, and still walked away stuffed. The omelet we had was the fluffiest and lightest we have had in our lives! (I'm not exaggerating)They were out of the hash browns, so we opted for the fries - and I must say, they were very addictive. The ambience is casual, and very much like a usual diner experience.

this place is food was pretty good. The chocolate chip pancakes were bomb and I'm talking bomb and then the bacon was pretty good as well. The only thing that this was disappointing I gave it four stars. was they ran out of hashbrowns, which is also a good sign but they give us french fries those were decent. The server was a little loud, but she was nice overall I would recommend this place especially for it being for 100 years this is a must go to in Chicago but the food came out cold

If you enjoy diner food and a casual friendly restaurant, this is your spot. Our waitress was extremely friendly and welcoming. She answered questions about the menu and made recommendation. When you first arrive, you are greeted with a hush puppy and an orange slice. We order the chicken sausage omelette hobo style and French toast with fresh fruit. You can also order an iced coffee with almond milk (they don't have oat milk). I would eat here again if I lived in Chicago .

Old school diner, one of the first in downtown on Route 66. Great breakfast and hearty lunches. Really takes you back when you walk in, like a time capsule. It's a typical diner in downtown so you can get your American classic breakfast or lunch. Once you get in, they give you an orange slice with a donut hole. These are also homemade and they have a ton of homemade baked goods. Ordered a Rueben and it was served open faced with the biggest wedge fries. I wanted my 1000 island on the side and it was great! The prices aren't too bad for what you get, you'll absolutely have a take home box. It's a real treat to come to Lou Mitchell's because you really experience classic Chicago diners that still exist.

Stopped in on my lunch break and Lou's is always one of my fave spots downtown. All the employees are cheerful and outgoing and the food is the best. Today my wonderful server Virginia took care of me. She attentive and outgoing and is a staple of what every server should be like. She wonderful. I have a veggie omelette with sausage inside hahaha I know that's not a veggie omelette but was it yummy. Always a treat to pop in and see the wonderful crew at Lou's Thanks all.

If you are from Chicago or from out of town it's definitely a must try spot. It is a good family ambiance. This place has been around for a long time, the staff is very polite and they all move quickly. The food is so warm and delicious! We came for Father's Day and they were really busy but they did a great job! It gets packed quickly so make sure you come with extra time (worth the wait). I got an omelette but turned it into a skillet which was so good! The portions are big, so come hungry! We can't wait to be back!

The food was very good. No skimpy plates, you will fill up.Beware, the silver dollar pancakes here are almost the same size as regular pancakes elsewhere..and you get a lot of them. Our server, Josh, was attentive but not intrusive. Very friendly.
