So. Everyone I know loves the Tuna sandwich, known as Kai Ryysdal was one of the best tuna sandwiches I've ever eaten. Delicious food. Havent had the sides so I can't comment. They seem indulgent, but I am curious how good they are. Now I must qualify this 5 star with, I originally ordered the Ira Glass a vegetarian sandwich with tuna. My friend forgot the Tuna so it was a fancy Alfa Alfa sprout sandwich. And I did not love it. My boss ate half and hated it. Commenting it was tasteless. Wasn't my favorite. But, if you like that stuff it's not bad. I'll try it with tuna. So this 5 is for tuna sandwiches only.

The sandwiches here are awesome. I have literally no idea why they are named after radio personalities, but that was definitely a fun thing to make the whole place more interesting.I do feel slightly resentful having to pay so much for a sandwich I am eating on the side of the road...That said, the sandwiches were delicious. I had the Larry Mantle and asked for two ingredients to be removed. You can remove ingredients but you can't ask for substitutions. I respect that. The bread was made on site, and everything tasted super fresh and healthy. The ambience was loud Americans talking loudly and there are only seats for a few groups. I would say it's more somewhere to grab something to take away or somewhere to grab something to eat in the park by the river.

I was looking for a quick lunch and noticed all the familiar NPR emcee names were in da house. Great way to get local LA people in the door! I do believe parking is only available on the narrow neighboring streets. A couple of the menu options were sold out - I decided on the Larry Mantle which seems like their version of an Italian sub. I tend to like hole in the wall spots, so sitting at a table on the sidewalk in the hot sun during my wait was fine with me. The wait was about 30 minutes for my 1-sandwich order during prime lunch hour on a Sunday. The sandwich was fine - I like the heaping veggie portions topped with vinaigrette which is typical of Italian subs, but I think I wanted a bit more cheese and meat. I'd come back to check out the other sandwiches, but I'd probably try to preorder to avoid the long wait.

Alright, Wax Paper. I'm a believer! I'd heard great things about this sandwich shop, but I'd never made it out because the location is a bit far from where I live in mid-city. I could finally try it out when we had to run errands in DTLA, and I'm so glad I did!I ordered:- Larry Mantle: is the ultimate Italian sub. Their bologna and salami are so tasty and high-quality.- Steve Julian: Wax Paper's take on a Bahn Mi. The roasted and shredded pork and miso aioli pair well together, almost like an Asian twist on a tuna salad. My boyfriend says this was one of the best bahn mi's he's had. And he's had many in his life Tips: - The portions are pretty substantial, so if you're not starving, you may be able to share one with two people.- Their sandwiches have a healthy amount of spread or sauce, so they'll start to get soggy if you let the food sit for too long. - Order ahead on Toast since it takes a while for them to make the sandwich. Even if they're not super busy, it takes 20~30 minutes for them to prepare. - Outdoor seating only, which means you can bring your furry friends with you to lunch. I wish they still had their delivery option at their Chinatown location, but I'll gladly travel to get my hands on their delicious sandwiches!

Been here a few times and never disappoints. Only hassle so far is the parking. They do sell out but I believe they started opening on Sundays now so they're slowly expanding. I recently had the Ira Glass and Terry. I enjoyed the Terry a little more with meat and the bread made it even more good. Very filling, fresh and tasty sandwiches. Always look forward to coming here especially because it's not local to me.

Naming sandwiches after NPR personalities is the gimmick that had this sandwich shop on my radar for a very long time. Never really had a reason to be in Frogtown until a recent excursion to the L.A. River area. Frogtown is a super cute area but definitely parking challenged. We stopped by for a late weekend lunch and split a Terry Gross sandwich. It was a solid sandwich but nothing memorable and felt a bit pricey for what it is. I love Bub & Grandma bread but I'm not sure why I wasn't as impressed this time around with their focaccia - maybe could've used a bit more toasting? Not too much seating - a few outdoor tables or you can also enjoy your sandwich by the river.

55 minutes for one sandwich is CRAZY work. The NPR anchors that you name your sandwiches after are going to pass away in the time that it takes you to fulfill a single order. Please get it together

Really really pricey sandwiches and sides, BUT you definitely get what you're paying for portion wise. I've had both their tuna and turkey sandwiches and enjoyed them. Wasn't a huge fan of the tuna. The pasta salad is actually my favorite thing to get from them. $9 but it's kinda huge! My favorite thing about the place in general are the people who work there. Super kind and helpful. Not really any seating.

Larry mantel sandwich was great. The ingredients were fresh and flavor profile was great. I loved the shaved parmesean on top. Terry Gross was solid. The kale slaw was a good contrast with the turkey. I'd recommend going with the Larry Mantel. Wait time can be a bit long (25-30mins)

While I love the ambiance and cute store front, the sandwiches were medicine. We tried the tuna sandwich and the salami sandwich. The tuna was very watery and had a weird flavor. The salami sandwich wasn't bad, but also wasn't great. I also don't like that at all sandwich shop, no customizations are allowed. I find this to be restrictive for people with food preferences since the sandwiches have somewhat unique topping combinations compared to traditional shops. Even though I wanted to love this place, I will not be back.
