When it comes to sweets, I'm always looking for the best places. Valerie's is where I go when I have a special occasion. Their Blum Coffee Cake, based on a famous shop from the 1970s, is a chiffon cake with coffee cream and topped with honeycomb candy. The cake is balanced between sweetness, chewiness, chiffon cake, and the coffee flavors. It's one of my favorite cakes ever. I was sure to get a slice for my birthday.Their rose petal petit fours is an amazing white cake coated in white chocolate and topped with a candied rose petal. It has delicate floral flavor and it's a fancy gift to give someone you admire something small, but special.Sticky Toffee Pudding, which I became aware of after visiting a Gordon Ramsay restaurant, is one of the best desserts on earth. It gets its flavors from caramel sauce and dates, but Valerie's puts their stamp on the dessert by adding in a little mezcal. The flavor is present as you take a bite, which can honestly be polarizing for some. If you take it home, you could heat this up in the microwave for a few seconds and add your own scoop of vanilla ice cream if you wanted to make it like a $20 dessert at a fancy dinner. They're actually known for their chocolates and they have unique flavors; however, I tend to stick to the items above. In their other location in Glendale, I've enjoyed a weekend tea experience where they pair their chocolates and scones with an afternoon tea service. I think that's a fun experience. This is a bakery/cafe and there's outdoor seating. Since I'm from Long Beach and street parking is difficult, I usually take it to go as my wife circles around the block in the car. Overall, this is a place that has some great options that have something a little bit extra. If that is what you are looking for, then this is your place.

I first found Valerie in the Grand Central Market and loved their baked goods. They always have interesting stuff and it's fun to try. The shop here is a cute shop with street parking, which can sometimes pose an issue, but it's well worth the visit.Recommended.

4++ having previously been to the Glendale/ Burbank location, I'm happy to say that this location pretty much has all the same goodies, albeit in a seemingly smaller space. The folks here were friendly, helpful, and prompt as you walked through the door. I previously had the coffee crumb cake and have to say that cake is one of my favorite cakes in the city if not anywhere. This time I wanted to change it up a bit. I got a slice of the chocolate chess pie. Haven't had a lot of this type of pie in my lifetime, but had enough of it to say I enjoyed their version of it. Maybe one day I will go the savory route as they seem like they have a lot of offerings there and look really good. Parking was a little hectic since it is in a tight Echo Park area, but I went during the day and was able to find parking really close by.

I wanted to come here so badly due to such good reviews i've heard previously. But after passing by and encountering an employee harassing and verbally assault a woman, was not a good look as a first time customer. I was in shock and afraid to be near this place as I don't like confrontation myself. This behavior drove away any potential client, and has lost any future clients and respect. Do not have painted on a wall to "resist hate" if hate is all that is portrayed about this business. Maybe in the future I will try, or i will go to their other location. But this ruined my trip.

Valerie E. P. (est 2013) is a little corner pastry shop that offers coffee, good breakfast and lunch, and, of course, buttery pastries and desserts. They're located along Echo Park avenue and Lucretia ave. Its indoor vibe was relaxing and I like their tiny outdoor patio space with street view. I came on a sizzling afternoon to grab lunch. I had their Iced Tea Hibiscus Lemonade and a Curried Chicken Sourdough sandwich x side of salad. The food was tasty and has unique flavor; drink was refreshing. Prices were fair for the area. Plenty of street parking. Staff was banal but polite. Overall, it's a nice coffee pastry shop.

Curried Chicken Salad Sandwich 5/5Smoked Salmon Banh Mi 5/5Hojicha Iced Latte 5/5Iced Americano 5/5Petit Fours 4/5Service 4.5/6Atmosphere 4/5Overall 5/5I haven't been to Valerie in years. But it's just as good as I remembered it! My husband ordered the Smoked Salmon Banh Mi and he loved it. The salmon was smoked perfectly and the sandwich composition made for an excellent bite - great taste and texture. I ate the Curried Chicken Salad Sandwich which was fantastic! The curry flavor was not overwhelming, but savory and well balanced. They use bread from Bub & Grandma's which is my favorite bread in Los Angeles. We finished our meal with a sweet treat - some petit fours. We tried the Lavender and Earl Grey petit fours and they were fragrant and sweet. A great way to end the meal!I recommended coming by earlier in the morning to avoid the crowd. Also coming earlier ensures that you'll get a nice shaded spot in the patio. Parking can also be difficult in this area - so coming earlier gets you a good parking spot too! I can't wait to come back again soon! There's so many more sandwiches and pastries I want to try!

While staying in Echo Park, Valerie came highly recommended. We decided to get it for late breakfast/lunch and it did not disappoint. We ordered online for pick up and everything was ready on time and the service was friendly enough. My brother and I shared half a turkey sandwich and half a chicken curry sandwich. I also got a caramel latte. The sandwiches were absolutely delicious! Both were great but the turkey was my favorite. The combination of the slice of green apple, the cheddar cheese, the cabbage, and light mustard really hit the spot. Both sandwiches came on sourdough which was perfect. The caramel latte had plenty of caramel and was super tasty. Looking at their display case, there's plenty of baked good and desserts that seemed delicious. I even saw at least one gluten free baked good option. If you're in the area, this is a great spot to order takeout from and they even have some outdoor seating too.

For years I've been obsessing over Valerie's Coffee Crunch Cake. The photos just looked so yummy. I finally made the effort to pay the Echo Park location a visit so I could see if the cake tasted as good as it looked.Thankfully, I went early on a Sunday morning because it is located in a residential neighborhood and parking in the area is tough. I eventually found a spot a few blocks away. Locals are lucky that they can walk here. In fact, the neighbor next door stopped by for his morning coffee. The kitchen takes up most of the space. There is no indoor seating but there are tables out front and a cozy little side patio. In addition to coffee, tea, cakes, & pastries you can also purchase breakfast & lunch items and pantry staples. There were several tempting pastries in the case, but I was on a mission. However, I didn't see the Coffee Crunch Cake so I asked if they had it. The kind man behind the counter told me he hadn't put it out yet and got me a slice. I couldn't wait to try it. The cake was a nice contrast of texture and flavor. The chiffon cake was light, moist, & fluffy. The whipped cream frosting was slightly sweet. The coffee honeycomb had a nice crunch giving each bite a little bit of texture. It also added sweetness and coffee flavor to the whipped cream. As a whole, it was a delight on the tastebuds. If I lived in the area I would stop by on a regular basis. I can't wait to go back and try some of their other treats and another slice of the Coffee Crunch Cake. *Cashless

There was an unhinged worker who yelled at a young Black woman today while she was trying to assist a young customer who was told to pay upfront before placing an order the worker, which made no sense. The woman eventually stepped outside to get away from his yelling, and he had the audacity to follow her out and publicly berate her as he waved his hands all up in her face as he invaded her personal space. No supervisor - or anyone for that matter - came out to deescalate the situation. I wouldn't recommend anyone come to this place if they have any shred of human empathy, especially in these polarized times. Utterly appalling and shameful.

NO CASH ACCEPTED HERE -- first thing to know if you're coming here A pretty, little cafe that serves beautiful sandwiches that are as great to eat as they are to look at. My friend and I both ordered our own sandwiches and they each came with a nice side salad. Both dishes came with VERY fresh ingredients and I've been craving to return since I first tried it Smoked salmon bahn mi - 10/10. It was so tasty even though it wasn't anything like what a traditional bahn mi is like. The lettuce and mint used in the sandwich were crunchy and super fresh and the pickled jalapeños used added a nice dimension to the sandwich Side salad - 8/10. I would have enjoyed it more but it was much too drenched with oil/lemon (not sure what they use here. It was good regardless but the dressing used was overwhelming)
