I really liked this place! The spicy tan tan and curry chicken were my favorites as they both had strong flavors. The spicy tan tan could have been a bit spicier, but it was still tasty. My friends really enjoyed the dipping ramen. It was good, but the flavor was definitely lighter. We did have to wait about 40 minutes for a table, but service was quick once we sat down. The place was minimal and dim - great for more intimate dinners. There's some street parking and a valet.

The space is open and airy. Always a plus. The service was efficient and professional. So for the food. Let me preface this by saying that there are many foods that I know a lot about, but ramen is a little world unto itself, and one in which I can't claim any particular expertise. What I can say is, that in comparison to the several dozen other bowls of ramen I have had over the years, this one is very good and on its own merits a five-star review (from someone who needs more education on what makes a great ramen). That's probably why you are coming here so that's important. What I was less impressed with were the other offerings. The gyoza were OK but just didn't really do much beyond being good (and not great). More egregiously, the rice balls were bordering on bad. While the fish was perfectly decent, the rice was drying out and cold and the seaweed was getting decidedly soggy on the bottom, as if these things had been made ahead of time. I don't believe they had, because there's really no reason to. And besides, they have an open kitchen, but the product itself was just not very good. And for that, they get a star removed. I would certainly go back and try other things on the menu, but having something that's easy to make well and not making it well (particularly at this price point) just doesn't stick well with me. But go for the ramen!

Everything was excellent here! My bf found them on instagram so we went to try. I can say they're almost like designer ramen. Their dishes are very unique (in a good way) and not like anything Ive had before. There's a level of authenticity in their cooking. Can't really go wrong with anything just wish we'd gotten dessert (didn't have time). The service was stellar as she came to check on us often. The only recommendation I have is cushions for their booth, the wood bench is really uncomfortable. Parking is somewhat challenging as well but not impossible (street parking only). Will definitely be back! Need to try that mango shaved ice!

Wow, this meal was fantastic, to say the least. Located in Larchmont Village on Melrose, this branch is the only location on the west coast (another reason why I'm thankful to be in LA!). When the host told us the midtown NYC location received a Michelin recognition, we knew this wasn't going to just be another upscale yet ordinary ramen experience. The interior is bright and inviting. The kitchen is visible and there's a little window near the entrance where you can watch them hand make their wavy noodles. Service was great and staff were so welcoming. There is street parking around the premises. Now onto the food:Spicy Tantan Ramen - sooo flavorful!! My favorite aspect about this dish is it wasn't overly salty, as some other establishments overdo it. This ramen was so well-balanced with the umami, spice and nuttiness from the broth. The noodles were perfectly chewy and soft, and you could just tell they use high-quality ingredients. We even agreed their nitamago egg was the best we've ever had!Tsukemen - for those familiar with Tsujita in west LA, this tsukemen wasn't as fatty/heavy nor salty in our opinions. We'd say the flavor profiles were very similar, but while Tonchin seemed to provide more noodles, Tsujita gave a lot more chashu pork. Mango kakigōri - DIVINE. The mango puree didn't taste artificial at all and we loved the fresh mango chunks. The honey cream top was delicious as well. I would honestly come back to Tonchin just to eat this. I will say though, we were surprised to be charged $7 for bottled water when offered the option versus tap. You'd think they'd at least tell us it wasn't complimentary--oh well. Overall, I will definitely be coming back. This isn't the cheapest ramen joint, but the quality of their food is enough to keep me wanting more. Plus, I have yet to try their appetizers and highball drinks ;)

Dark and moody, hip and chill vibes describe Tonchin. It's perfect for a date night or girls night out. My friend and I were warmly greeted at the entrance and had friendly service all night. We started with the edamame which was such a bright pop of flavor with the seasoning of basil, plum, red shiso and olive oil. My friend swears by the fried fish buns but I had to go with the ramen for my first visit. They offer 4 types of ramen (one vegan), one tsukemen and two mazemen options (one vegan). I had the Tonchin Classic Tokyo Tonkotsu. Everything from the homemade noodles to the rich broth were perfection. For dessert they offer kaki-gori which I'd love to try next time as you don't often find it here, but we had the Tokyo Banana which is a layered dish with banana, cream, vanilla, short bread, coconut cream and kinako. As a banana fan, this was so unique and delicious.

Jingle bells! My Christmas ramen review, lolz! I've been to Tonchin in Larchmont a couple of times now and it's such a gorgeous restaurant. Exterior to interior to staff, all is lovely at Tonchin. They have a couple of locations in New York and just this LA outpost has been open a couple years now. I've been a few times now and I'll tell you what keeps me coming back - the dessert. The first time I went, I had the dipping noodles. It's a collab dish and uses a rich tokyo gyokai broth. I am obsessed with dipping noodles! Their version is served warm in a huge portion but I just didn't vibe with the flavor. My friend was also not too impressed with his ramen, but we knew we needed to give them another try because the Kaki-gori here is so deliciously good.Since then, I've tried the Tsukune Buns of which I enjoyed the ground pork but not so much the garnishes flavor combination. I've tried the Unagi and Chashu Tokyo Rice Balls and we liked both, but didn't love them. Of all I've tried, I'd say the Curry and Cheese chicken wings are a dish I would get again. They had really nice seasoning with teriyaki, cheese, chives and white pepper - a very light but nice kick. Juicy chicken but not very plump pieces. Now, I still need to try more on the menu but overall with many dishes, I am at 3 stars for Tochin. But then, we get to the aforementioned, Kaki-gori. Once this enters your mouth, it's bliss. So far I've tried the Matcha and the Coffee, both were just perfection. Both included their tonchin honey cream sauce and then had various accompaniments. It obviously melts in your mouth, but it does the melting in the smoothest way possible. Just stellar flavor in both of these desserts. This is a beautiful restaurant worth coming to if only for the beautiful atmosphere and Kaki-gori!

I first came across this place on TikTok which is a Japanese tonkotsu ramen place originally from Tokyo. So glad it has made its way to LA. The ambiance was dark and classy perfect for a dinner date.We started off with the curry cheese wings (6pc) ($19) which were mind blowingly flavorful. It is a must order. I only needed a bite and I was so impressed with the crunch of the wing and the salty umami flavor of the teriyaki sauce. Personally I couldn't really taste the curry powder but it was still so good. Next time I'm definitely getting the 8 piece. Both my friend and I got the spicy tan tan ($22) and the broth was so flavorful. The bowl looked small at first but there was an endless amount of noodles. The egg was perfectly seasoned and the thin slices of pork were super tender. I also love how the ramen came out piping hot. I loved how the noodles had a bouncy texture as well. For dessert, we got the Tokyo Banana pudding ($13). I wasn't expecting to like it but I t is the best banana pudding ever. The banana pudding wasn't overly sweet and crunchy short bread gave the pudding an amazing texture along with the coconut cream which added a hint of coconutty sweetness. I will definitely be back to try their Japanese cocktails and kakigori. My final thoughts are everything is just so well made and the intricate flavors go so well together.

Recently came here for lunch, and it's a solid spot. Arrived right as they opened, and got seated right away. We tried the unagi rice ball, fried fish buns, wings, and ginger miso ramen with an egg. Everything was really good, especially the buns. The ramen was excellent for a vegan broth--rich, flavorful, and satisfying. The portion was huge, definitely big enough to share. The wings didn't stand out for me, so wouldn't get those again. For dessert, I got the mango shave ice and Tokyo banana--the shave ice is some of the best in LA, and the Tokyo banana was even better than Magnolia's version. Definitely a great spot worth revisiting!

Amazing service. Amazing food. amazing staff! We were sat down quickly for no reservation party of four on a Sunday dinner. I suggest making one because we got lucky with seating! This authentic Asian cuisine is a must try spot. The tasteful & delicious food mixed with the romantic ambiance of the restaurant made the whole experience enjoyable! Had to get the dessert, fluffy shaved ice & ice cream was beyond delicious! Must try the appetizers & ramen! Will be coming back here again!
