I met up with my friend Chris H. a couple weeks ago, and he treated me to a lovely lunch at Summer Buffalo. The place was charming, casual but elegantly decorated, with a contemporary L.A. feel. The name and location had me expecting some kind of fusion situation, but it was a Thai restaurant like you might find in Thai Town, with maybe more alcohol and vegan-friendly options. The place was pretty quiet on a Tuesday around lunchtime, and service was friendly and fast. I get the sense that Summer Buffalo does a good amount of takeout and delivery, but it has a nice enough vibe to warrant dining in.The food was delicious. We got the Burmese tea leaves to start, and this was an excellent salad, with fermented tea leaves, dried shrimp, and a whole lot of nuts, seeds, and herbs in a light but flavorful dressing. It came with a side of pickled peppers that packed a serious punch. The braised lamb shank in massaman curry was a wonderful entrée, with tender, boneless lamb in a spicy coconut milk curry with potato and peanuts. We also shared the pad see ew, the soft flat rice noodles stir fried with chicken, egg, broccoli, and black soy sauce. I've probably had pad see ew at fifty restaurants, and found this iteration quite satisfying.I live within Summer Buffalo's delivery radius and am likely to order when I'm feeling lazy in the coming months. I'd be happy to go back in person, too, and look forward to getting that lamb shank curry again either way.

Great Thai find along Melrose! Although it traditionally doesn't look like a Thai restaurant given its name and modern exterior, walking inside brings you to their space decorated with common Thai dish ingredients lined up and stacked on the shelves.I shared a Pad Thai with my friend and a Tom Kha Soup. The coconut cream was more on the lighter and sour side, which helped balance between the noodles. A small bowl was plenty of broth and chicken and the large size would be great for around 3-4 people. The rice noodles were chewy which I was a fan of the texture. There wasn't much shrimp in the Pad Thai if I remember eating not too many pieces. My friends ordered other Thai food staples such as Green Curry and Drunken Noodles and we liked those dishes as well! The amount of chicken/tofu in all of our dishes were copious. Well balanced portions, great flavors, variety of menu items, and tasty dishes round up overall about 4 stars for the meal and service!

My all time favorite Thai restaurant! I've been coming here for years and it's a great spot to have dinner at before hitting up Groundlings next door. Tom Khah soup, fried egg rolls, chicken wings, pad tai, Larb and papaya salads as well as mango sticky rice as just some of my favorite dishes at Summer Buffalo. I love bringing friends here too because sharing is fun and it's that good! Bonus: Service is always fantastic and the ambiance is nice and cozy!

The menu is limited but the food is excellent! Large portions and so delicious. It's very small and cozy in there and plenty of street parking.

From the street it's hard to tell what Summer Buffalo is but every time I would pass by I saw it way busy so I knew it must be good. I didn't know it was a Thai place until I finally looked it up and my husband and I decided to check it out for a date night. We came on a Friday during peak dinner hours and were able to get seated right away. It's all essentially one room so you can see the chefs and it feels like you're in the kitchen with them. I ordered the pad see you with beef. The noodles and sauce were perfectly sweet and tasty, but I wouldn't recommend the beef because it was on the tough side and difficult to chew. Next time I'll do the chicken. The waitress also wasn't transparent that the beef would have a +$3 up charge so just something to keep in mind if you substitute. Parking is street parking on Melrose and side streets so best of luck!

This place is located in a corner of a Plaza on Melrose Avenue. I came across this place before I went to go work at a café! And it is a cute Thai restaurant that has a very great lunch special every day! For $16 I got a huge plate of orange chicken! It's very fresh and crispy! He also get a side of salad and rice! The staff here are super friendly and sweet! It looks like a lot of locals come by to eat at this place!

I found this place on google, trying to find a new spot in the Hollywood area to try and I am so glad I did! The curry here is sooo good. I always get the tofu curry but with the fried tofu! In this pic I got it with rice but really didn't need the rice as the tofu was a good sized portion. I've been back a few times and even have ordered it out. It's a very very small place, service is good, ambiance lacks but totally worth going!

The food here is really good, I really like the drunken noodles and this one coconut curry dish that I tried. I forgot the name of it but it's really good and I thought that I wouldn't like it since I'm not that much of a sweet and savory type of person but this one hit the spot. The workers there are also really friendly and make you feel like family which I really like. The place is also really nice and feels nice and cozy.

I went back recently to dine in. They have a gluten free menu, however I really wanted to have the pad kee mao which is not gluten free. To my surprised they agreed to customize it for me.As usual, great service, great food, great value!

Came on a whim while craving mango sticky rice, and this restaurant surprised me! It tasted authentic, the interior was aesthetic, and everything seemed pretty great quality. My only note is that the service was a bit slow with just the one waiter (that I saw at least), but it wasn't really a hindrance. The wings were juicy and flavorful, and the mango sticky rice was the right amount of sweet!
