The best Indian (Desi) food I have ever eaten in anywhere outside my home specially the chicken tikka masala, chicken tandoori and the garlic nunn, it's really funny while writing this review about those tandoori and nunn making my mouth super wateringOn top of that the service is also absolutely outstanding

I ordered the chicken curry with moderate spice and Punjabi style samosas. The samosas come with two per order and were HUGE! Even ordered to go, they were still hot when I got them, with a crunchy crust outside. The inside was steamy and full of potato and peas and Indian spices. The mint and tamarind sauses provides a bit of cooling and tangy flavor. Would recommend! I'm glad I ordered moderate because the curry had a kick, and I feel like I can handle my spice! Solid, but nothing special to write home about.

This was our first time here so we had to try some classic Indian dishes to test and they did not disappoint! Ordered chicken samosas, papadam, garlic butter naan, basmati rice, chicken tikka masala (hot), and salmon korma (hot). All tasted so good, especially the tikka masala. The restaurant is older but clean and the waiter was very friendly and efficient. We look forward to trying other dishes on the menu.

From the outside you may drive past this place without knowing the treasures inside. And if you do your grocery shopping across the street you'll probably get a $5 off coupon on your receipt like we did. This Bangladeshi run restaurant is now our go-to Indian spot in the neighborhood. The lunch special options allow you to sample a lot of the menu for $15. We ordered two of the special plates which came with our choice of one veggie and one chicken dish. The sag paneer was unlike any sag paneer I've ever had. It was a fresher consistency and the paneer was so soft and creamy! The tandoori chicken was so juicy!! We ordered medium spice and the heat was perfect! Not to be dramatic... but the veggie samosa the best I've had in LA. The service was friendly and quick for how fresh everything was, we are already planning to go back again soon Every dish was devoured by the time it hit our table, hence the outside pictures.

I remember eating at the restaurant back when they were on Melrose years ago, and since then, I've passed their new (though they've been there for a while now) digs on Vine Street many, many times. I finally got around to trying it last night. The restaurant is in a strip mall, and there's a small lot which probably fills up easily. Fortunately, I was able to find parking on a neighboring side street. And in I went. It's not a large restaurant, but the interior is pleasant and comfortable. There are quite few staff members, so I was greeted immediately and shown to a comfortable table in the corner. While the combos depicted on Yelp via Grubhub don't seem to exist for dine-in (which is unfortunate, because they made things seem a good bit cheaper), prices still are fairly reasonable, and I opted for the prix fixe dinner for one.The dinner for one comes with quite a bit of food: choice of a samosa or onion bhaji, soup or salad, your choice of main course (I opted for mango coconut lamb), raita, rice, choice of naan or garlic naan and rice pudding. In general, the food was quite tasty. The standouts were the lamb and the garlic naan. The lamb was tender and very flavorful, and "medium" heat wasn't too spicy--it had just the right amount of kick. I also appreciated that the naan had good flavor and was cooked to just the right point. The samosa was solid, especially with the addition of a bit of mint sauce. The soup was perhaps a little bland (it seemed to lack salt), though it improved as it cooled down. The rice pudding, while tasty, was a little sweet for my taste. The one (not insignificant) drawback was the speed of service. The appetizers had barely arrived (the soup was too hot even to be edible at that point) when the main course items arrived. And then, the check was dropped on the table at the end of the main course, even though I still had dessert coming. Given that the restaurant wasn't in need of the table--not that they should have done that even if they were--I'm not sure why they were trying to push me through my meal so quickly. They were certainly friendly, but the meal didn't feel very leisurely, which made it all a bit less enjoyable than it could have been. Still a good meal, and certainly a fixable problem--so I hope they work on that.

So so yummy and great portions!! There's two of us and we always share 2 dishes + side of rice + 2 orders of garlic butter naan (one order is probably enough, but we love to add the rice and chicken to the naan)I believe the Chicken Tikka Masala & Butter Chicken are cooked in the same sauce just an fyi - one is white meat one is dark meat, our server was kind enough to inform us of that.We also order another dish that's a little sweeter with coconut (can't think of the name), but both delicious! We get "'medium" and it's not super spicy by any means, but very flavorful with a slight kickWe've tried other similar restaurants in the area, but choose to come back to star of India* we normally have enough for some leftovers which is great *

This restaurant was such a hidden gem! Came here with a friend before an event we had to get to by 9:30 on a Tuesday night so we called in and placed an order while we were 10 minutes away. When we got there at 9:00 they seated us and brought us our butter chicken, tikka masala, naan, and rice immediately. The fragrant aroma of garlic and spices filled my nostrils and sent me to the angelic realms. When I dipped that freshly baked, perfectly textured naan into the butter chicken sauce, I lost all sense of time as I dissolved into a sea of perfectly creamy bliss with just the right amount of kick to it to keep it interesting with each subsequent bite. I have never eaten so fast in my life. I couldn't believe that at 9:10, I was done eating. To say I transcended would be an understatement. Well done, Star of India! You deserve all the (Michelin) stars :)

I have driven by this place so many times. I just never got around to stopping. The outside is not calling me. It is in a strip mall with good parking but there are not a lot of things in that little mall of which I find interest. My grandson saw it and said he wanted to try it. I am so glad he always gets what he wants. Star of India is great. The food, the inside, the service, all of it is memorable and we will be back. The place is super clean and really cute inside. You can dine in, do that, or get take away or delivery. You will love the service. I do think it is family owned and the entire staff treats you like family. They know the menu so well, so we were able to try a few things we have never had. We over-ordered and that was fine with us, more to eat the next day--it heats up really well.We started with CHICKEN SAMOSA and it was great. Packed with chicken and the perfect spicing. The little home made pastry in which the chicken lives was so great. It comes in a set of two. We also tried PAPPADAM, which we never had before, truth be told, we never heard of it. Lentils wafers are deep fried. It was great. I expected not to care for this, but I loved it. We had an Indian salad, which has crisp and fresh lettuce, cucumber, red onion, tomatoes all tossed with homemade Indian dressing. We shared all of this and both of us were so happy. For out next set of courses we had EGGPLANT BHARTA which has charcoal smoked eggplant mashed and sautéed with onions, tomatoes and herbs and I am not sure what else. This was new to me. I never liked eggplant much. I loved this one. It was tender and full of flavor. We also had SHRIMP SAAG which is black shrimp with chopped spinach, onions, garlic, ginger, cream and various Indian spices. Now, this black shrimp was the best. Not over cooked, just perfect. Finally, we ordered, GARLIC NAAN, a must and GARLIC BUTTER NAAN, and the one with the butter was my favorite. Made there, I think and just so great. We actually ordered this first and used it for all our dishes. The prices are super fair. You will love this place.
