Burrito 2.0. So good!
Caramelo with Costilla: you need to add a grilled poblano chile for that extra flavor bomb
Burrito 2.0 cross section. Delicious!
Horchata con coco

Yummy tacos that remind me of the ones I've grown up eating in Baja California! From the salsas, to the freshly grilled meat to the homemade tortillas, you can't go wrong with this place. Their salsas are so simple yet pack a punch in flavor and spice (green one). Service was pretty quick too. Within ordering at the front, we got our food within 10 minutes or less. Seating was arranged in a barstool format with a couple of tables outside. Since it's in DTLA, parking can be difficult with street meters. There were a few homeless located right in front of the entrance door which can affect the experience but we just stayed inside to enjoy the meal right away.

I ordered the chicken burrito. Inside comes with the meat plus everything listed on the menu (Burrito 2.0). The tortilla wrapper is probably the signature ingredient of the burritos. It has those grill lines, so it makes it extra crispy when you take a bite into it. The total cost for just the burrito is ~$13. (Total ~$15, because 10% tip at the time of this writing Feb 2025). It was very worth it. The sides come with a few slices of radish, (not pickled), one grilled green onion, and a container of red spicy salsa. There are a few chairs on a bar table inside and some tables outside to eat. The inside is pretty small and is a tight squeeze for a group, so it is recommended to eat outside.Summary:- CLEANLINESS. The inside restaurant and outside seating are clean. The tables are more likely to get dirty from the previous customer because the staff can only do so much before another customer snatches the next available seat.- COSTS. $ Affordable. ~$13 for a good, portion-sized burrito. - CUSTOMER SERVICE. The staff were quick, friendly, and professional.- FOOD QUALITY. The ingredients are fresh. I love the grilled tortilla wrappers, even if it may be generic. Grilling it makes it tastes so much better. - FOOD QUANTITY. Average to large portion size. Good bang for your buck. - WAIT TIME. We went during peak lunchtime around 12 PM on a Tuesday. Since we came in a group, we probably made the line longer, but there was no one in front of us. Food took about 10-15 minutes for our entire group of 5 to receive all of our food.

so DELICIOUS!! best tortillas ever! they make their tortillas in house and theyre so soft and buttery. the salsas were amazing and everything on the menu tasted so good. the staff is so nice and helpful and the inside of the restaurant is cute with lots on the wall to look at. only street parking (kind of difficult to find nearby, good luck lol) and not much seating inside or outside but so worth coming. gets super packed for lunch especially during lunch but if you can pick it up and eat it somewhere else it is so worth it.

Sonoratown has some of the best tacos in LA. Even from outside, you can smell the wafting aromas from the grilled meats. The handmade flour tortillas are a game changer and they are so delicate and chewy. Try not to drool all over the menu as you order the tacos, burritos, and chivichangas.Cabeza Taco: The braised beef head meat is warm, tender, and comforting. It's like eating a big dumpling with a soft filling. The meat is so soft like oxtail without the bone, and a bit gooey and sticky.Costilla Taco: The mesquite grilled steak is smoky and spicy. The carne asada has a great texture of with a comforting snap. The guacamole is so smooth and creamy and you get so much zing from the salsa roja. The charred scallion is soft, sweet, and smoky, (in that order). The flour tortillas are thin yet firm. Even though the meat is extraordinary, I think I could almost eat the tortillas on their own.Dining Area: After ordering at the counter, they'll call your name. There's a long shelf along the walls with many stools.Parking: There's metered street parking.

Fresh tortillas, well grilled steak and seasoned meats. This place hits the spot if you're craving some tacos, burritos, etc!We came by on a Saturday and the place a a bit full, not so full that we couldn't find a barstool seat tho so yay! The person who rang us up made some small talk with my partner because of his hat, this always cheers up my partner hahaah. I ordered the steak, chicken, and chorizo tacos. The steak was my fav! You can taste the grill and the meat was still tender. The chicken was ok, and the chorizo was more of a sausage type of chorizo. Do be cautious of the salsas!!! They really pack some heat in those things hahah. The ambiance is causal, with stickers and picture frames adorning the walls. It was interesting looking through them all as we waited for our food and ate throughout our meal.Would recommend!

I finally made it to Sonoratown and I'm glad I did. If you're looking for real Sonoran-style tacos, this place delivers.I got three tacos--chorizo, cabeza, and costilla--all served on their incredible handmade flour tortillas. These tortillas are next-level: soft but sturdy and full of flavor. They never fell apart, a small but essential win when eating tacos.Chorizo - Sonoran-style chorizo is a little different from what you might be used to. It's not crumbly like the typical Mexican chorizo from the store, but also not firm like Spanish chorizo. It lands somewhere in between--super flavorful, slightly spicy, really good... but not as good as the costilla.Cabeza - If roasted cow head gives you pause, trust me--you're only cheating yourself. It was insanely tender, buttery, and just melted in my mouth.Costilla - Easily my favorite. Perfectly grilled, seasoned rib steak meat that was juicy and packed with smoky goodness. Would come back just for this.Service was fast and friendly. I went on a Tuesday evening, and there was plenty of seating--got my food in about five minutes. It's a casual spot, a little loud, but nothing crazy. There are a ton of great tacos in LA, but Sonoratown is one of the best. It's a nice change from the usual taco scene here, and it really feels like a special spot. Can't wait to come back.

Yum! Both their tacos and burritos are deelish!! Parking can be a bit difficult but they accept phone orders so if you plan ahead, you can time your meter for a quick pickup. Their hand-made flour tortillas are deliciously soft and chewy, and the salsas are fresh and perfectly complementary. My last order was a carne asada burrito, which came out to be $13.69 including tax. The burrito was muy rico from start to finish. The meat had a delightful smokiness without being charred, and there's melty cheese and subtle guacamole artfully blended in. It was hard to stop eating!I really appreciate the staff's cool, friendly attitude, and all the choices they've made in their food and store. Because the menu is simple and minimal, they're able to dedicate their attention to every order.

Soo good! The parking is tough but my partner just idled outside while I ran in and ordered. A must if you're already in the area!We got the burrito, Lorenza, Caramelo, and quesadilla. Tried those w the grilled steak, chicken, and chorizo. I liked the chorizo/quesadilla combo the best but everything was tasty! I liked that the chorizo wasn't spicy. Every dish comes with radish, lime, and grilled green onions. Their flour tortillas are sooo good, I can see why they've won KCRW's Tortilla Tournament! I'll have to get a pack next time just for snacking. I'm excited to try more off their menu, and their Long Beach location, which is closer to me.

This is not a fancy place. It is a hole-in-the-wall. The menu is small. The drink options are limited. A young woman with whom I work has helped me a great deal lately and I asked her what kind of food she liked the most. She literally could have picked anything. I would have done steak, sushi, fine dining, literally anything. She wanted Mexican. We were working in a courthouse in downtown Los Angeles. This place popped up with a 4.4 star review of 2000 reviews. So this is where we went. This is in downtown L.A. There is no great parking. There is rooftop parking above the place. There is a sign that says 5$, but it is 10$. No biggie. The place is small and divey. There are standing tables inside and a few metal tables in front. Not a fancy place. They have five meats: grilled steak (Costilla), chicken. Sonoran style chorizo, cabeza, and tripe (triba). The vegetarian options include poblano chile and pinto beans. Their options are simple: burrito 2.0, Lorenza (like a big taco on a corn tortilla), Caramelo (like a big taco on a flour tortilla), taco, quesadilla, Chivichanga (chimichanga), and a bean and cheese burrito. They have Mexican beers and sodas, 4 kinds of salsa, guacamole, and chips. No diet anything, except water. The chips are interesting. They come in small and large. Large is a store bag of tortilla chips. while small is the same chips in a smaller brown paper bag. Again, not fancy. The brown bag of chips and our guac and salsa was handed to me when I paid. The guacamole was particularly good. It was well seasoned and had nice pieces of tomato and onion. Very good guac, The red salsa is spicy, but not crazy. The green salsa is very mild. The guac and red salsa were great with the chips for me.My friend and I both had a Caramelo: mine with grilled steak, hers with chicken. They each come with two radish slices, a lime section, red/green salsa. A person walked around the inside, then the outside, of the place calling my name and delivered the food.We both loved our food. My grilled steak was excellent. I tried a bite separately and it is tender, well-seasoned, and perfectly cooked. The combination of steak, beans, jack cheese, guac, cabbage, and a grilled poblano chile was truly excellent. It was not just good; it was great.I was surprised how much I enjoyed the food. The cover of this book does not mirror the contents. If you want authentic Sonoran food and are not too worried about people coming up to your table asking for money, this place is the bomb. Since the nature of the area is irrelevant to me, this is 5-stars all day.
