I gave a review on this place back in 2014. Unfortunately things have not changed very much since then. The Smoke House has been around since 1946. Quite a feat when the food isn't really that good, nor is the service. However, the place is packed every Friday and Saturday night because it's an institution to the locals. But one thing is for sure: If I'm going to spend $50 to $75 for a great steak, I'm going to go to Ruth Chris, Morton's or Maestro's. Unfortunately the Smoke House has no idea how to properly cook a steak. But they do a decent job on the prime rib. That is, when the cook properly slices the correct cut that the diner asks for.Of course, the garlic bread is decent if you like Kraft Macaroni and Cheese powder mixed-in with garlic on your bread. Somehow this works. I must admit when it comes to the bar, they have an excellent pour. It helps to have a few drinks before your start eating. The garlic cheese bread tastes much batter after you've had a few. They are also one of the few restaurants that pour a sidecar when you order a martini. That alone deserves the two stars I give the restaurant here. The rest of the menu is forgettable. Nothing stands out with the exception of the salads. They are actually pretty good and filling. So much for the food overall.Service is usually slow-to-poor. The staff is very friendly, but overwhelmed. You will wait forever for somebody to come by and take your order, but sometimes that can be a good thing. if you just want to sit there and enjoy your cocktail for a while, the waiting works in your favor. The food comes out quickly, but what you order is usually hit-and-miss. My best advice is to order a cocktail, some garlic cheese bread and a salad. No disappointments with that combination. The real attraction for me at the Smoke House is the entertainment. I made the decision a few years back that I would go there primarily for the music. Friday nights are a yawn: A guy by the name of Rick Whitfield is there every Friday and his forte is playing 20 minute versions of golden oldies from the 1960's. The average member of the crowd is well into their 70's and the place clears-out by 10 pm. I guess Fridays are senior citizens night and old Rick plays just enough tunes to prepare the crowd for bed. Snore! However, Saturday nights are a completely different animal. One of the acts is an 88-year-old Elvis imitator with a ridiculous jet black wig and painted eyebrows by the name Jimmy Angel. My girlfriend and I laughed hysterically when we saw him take the stage for the first time until he opened his mouth. The guy was fantastic! Strong voice, sang on-key and could really belt-out the tunes. Most of his material was from the 1950's, but he had complete command the room and had everybody in the palm of his hand. It was a real surprise to see how talented this guy was. His 3-piece backing also kicked ass and made for a great evening. Like Jimmy says on stage, "The 50's were the best, forget the rest".Another great band is a quartet by the name of Joe Finkle and the 7/10 Splits. They were mostly rockabilly but still sound great. Their lead guitar player had got to be the best I've ever heard. The band just wails on every tune and the crowd really likes these guys. A nice change and the type of band you rarely see at other restaurants. An excellent smooth music band on one Saturday night a month is the Ralph Mathis Band; Ralph is brother to that world famous singer Johnny Mathis, and Ralph knows how to sing those soulful hit songs just like Johnny. They bring to mind those great club jazz groups from the past and also play a variety of hit songs that people know and recognize. Great music to snuggle-up to your woman on the dance floor. However, the greatest band at the Smoke House has to be a five-piece group by the name of Higher Ground. Celebrating their 21st year at the Smoke House, these guys keep the dance floor packed all night long with their disco, funk and dance hits and bring the house down. It is standing room only as the band pumps-out some of the best known dance hits from the 1970's and 1980's right up to a few of today's hit songs. Their lead singer is an incredibly beautiful little female dynamo that has more energy than the Energizer Bunny. She dances to every song the band plays from start to finish. Their musicianship and their harmonies are incredible: Close your eyes and you would swear that the original artist is playing live on stage in front of you. The night we were there, the room was packed to standing-room only and instead of performing until 11:30 pm like the rest of the bands, they kept going until 12;30 pm because the room was still packed with dancers and listeners. For what the Smoke House lacks in food quality and service, they more than make-up for it with their Saturday night band line-up. Yes, I gave the Smoke House two stars, but what the heck. Go by there one Saturday night and decide for yourself....

We have driven by Smoke House so many times. Today we decided to try it out as we have heard so many great reviews. Unfortunately, the hype in our opinion was well over rated. We attempted to get recommendations from our waiter. He was very monotone with no real suggestions and when asked what was the best seller his response was everything was about equal. We ended up getting the ribs wins baked beans and corn on the cob with one onion ring. As well as a pulled pork sandwich with fries and a side of what they called award winning clam chowder. After placing our order the waiter asked if we wanted garlic bread. Which we agreed to having. My wife said the best part of the ribs plate was the onion ring. She left more than half of the half rack of ribs and most of the beans. The clam chowder was chowder with greenish colored sauce that was not hot at best like warm. There was plenty of clams but not much else to the soup. Honestly not sure what award was won. The pulled pork seemed like it came out of pot that was keeping it warm plopped onto a Hawaiian roll. And the fries were nothing special they actually tasted like they had started in cold oil then heated up. The waiter walked by right before we finished and gave us a thumbs up as he was walking by I had to stop him and ask for a refill of my water glass. He sent someone else to fill our water glasses. Once we were done we waited about 10-15 minutes for him to return to be able to pay so we could leave. The restaurant had a feel of an old establishment that was meant to stay back in time with the dirty red carpet, squeaky old dining tables, all black and white Hollywood movie persona and light fixtures that have been then for decades. Now I know that the thought of keeping the nostalgia could be important but I recently visited another restaurant in Hollywood that has been around more than 100 years and they were cleaner, more customer service friendly, and even with their antique nostalgia they felt clean and inviting unlike this restaurant. Needless to say I would not be coming back here.

As we had family in town, we wanted to take them to a classic historical Cali restaurant. And the first restaurant that came to mind was a Burbank classic restaurant that has been around since the 1960s with a strong celebrity followership! We thought this would be the perfect place to introduce them to LA.Unfortunately our experience at the restaurant was a miss from the beginning. We had reservations early in the evening for a booth and they sat us across the closet where drinks and dishes piled up. I did not want to spend a lot of money and look at prep area with dishes piling up so requested another seat and was informed that all other booths were taken: mind you it was five and half the booths were empty. Lacked customer service in pleasing us on this matter. So what about food and service: we were asked for drink orders and we didn't even receive a menu! Sad! As for food we had hits and misses! Their signature prime rib was a missed when asked for medium rare and they served us medium: for a steak establishment this should not of been a missed. My baked potato came without its toppings initially: all should be served at once. Onion soup is a rip off for 8 dollars: lacked cheese and substance. Note this soup is only served on the weekend. Lava cake was more of a devil cake: overcooked. And the cherry on top was we were never asked about our food: even when we sent things back, they never ask why or comp us! Also skip the espresso martini: made poorly and overly sweet. The best thing tonight was the hard work of Eduardo, he should be promoted.Lastly, if visiting this establishment make reservations and be specific on where you want to sit. The restaurant gets a lot of repeat visitors. Also plenty of street parking available for free or you can pay 8 dollars for valet.

Man... Its been many moons since my last time at the Smoke House. Our family came for a visit for our early holiday dinner. With a reservation for 5pm on Sunday, I was surprised to see the place filled with people. Since its been so long since my last time it was amazing to see how many sections this establishment has. The entry way was a fairly long walk to the front desk. During that walk there were private rooms off to the side. The waiting area is most of the front walkway which tells me many people come for a nice meal. As we got seated there was a couple of areas we passed through to get to our table. Each area seemed very cozy yet tight fitted. The area we were seated had a fireplace, had an old fashion vibe, and some old movie posters hung on the wall. There wasn't too much room to move around as you backs were either in the aisle or to someone's back. The menu has a nice selection of steak, seafood, BBQ, and others. I was very interested in the Ribeye steak but ended up with the Prime Rib dinner. We all enjoyed our meal and would love to come back for another family occasion. I think this place is perfect for a company holiday party, a date, family gathering, or any special occasion.Parking: limited street parking, valet ($8)VERDCIT: Rinse and repeat

Welcome 2025! I rang in the new year last night with my hubby at Smoke House. What a fabulous time! Old school, black-and-white photos on the wall, live music, festive decor, everyone happy and having a great time. It took us about half an hour to get seated despite our reservation, but the hostess treated everyone well and everything moved efficiently. Food was superb. My husband had the prime rib and I had a petite fillet. So scrumptious! The baked potatoes were perfect. The green beans were perfect. We of course had to order the famous garlic bread -- so worth it! Drinks took a little longer to come out, and I didn't get my whiskey cocktail until about 10 minutes after the food was served, but it was New Year's Eve, so no big deal.Smoke House gives me nostalgia for old Hollywood. I'm so glad it's still there and still so popular.Happy new year, Yelp pals!

The Smokehouse has been a favorite of mine since 1984. This is the best garlic bread that I have ever had. So many times, I go there just to pick up garlic bread to take to events. The food is delicious. The ambiance is old Hollywood with hundreds of pictures to prove it. You will love the Smoke House.

Don't be fooled by "the world's greatest" garlic cheese bread. I was not impressed. The thick powdery cheese was on top of the bread making it too salty and kind of gross. Regrettably and with high expectations, we got the full size. Another flop was the fried calamari. It was chewy and not that crispy. I got prime rib and another steak and it was good. They cooked it perfectly and I really liked that they have veggies + 1 side with the entree. The veggies are overcooked and soft, which I didn't mind and enjoyed. The portion size is pretty big for everything. I might come back if I'm craving a steak dinner. As for service, it's a bit slow and watching the waiters speed walking around and being busy made me feel their stress lol. I think a lot of people like celebrating their birthdays here because we heard like 5 tables singing the birthday song when we arrived. When we arrived, we turned into the parking lot not knowing that they do valet parking for $8-$10. The valet attendants said we can park on the streets if we want so we did. It was easy to find a spot (we were there a late 8pm).

The portions are quite large and the prices are not offensive. My cousin and I shared a prime rib sandwich and a rack of ribs. The waiter, Christopher, brought it out pre-split and gave us each full sides. The atmosphere was perfect. Throwback but not dingy. Very well loved and full of life.

Smoke House is smoking! This post WWII eatery is located on Lakeside Drive/Olive Avenue in the city of Burbank, Los Angeles, California across the street from the back end of Warner Bros Studios.Opening its doors in the mid 1940s, a serving up beverage, food and live entertainment ever since. When you step into those thick wooden doors you can take in the rich history on the walls, images, panels, carpeting and unique layout with a both stair and a ramp toward the counter for reservations. Celebrating our friend Shaun's incredible birthday we had a big reservation for 12. I'd knew of Smoke House, but never thought about going and I'm glad I did for the occasion. Cheers, Shaun!!We were sat in one of the more quieter rooms deep inside near a toasty fireplace and a few other parties in the center of the room. It was good feels all around at the house of smoke.Known for their World's Greatest (cheeto crust cheesy) garlic bread other great beginnings (also known as the appetizers), soups, salads, sandwiches, steaks and pastas among other things. All the beverage options you could want and then some - sky is truly the limit.Plenty of vegetarian options and a few select vegan items, which made me content, the wine even more so. Though I did notice more than a few things were pretty close if you omit dairy for a dish, like the dinner salad and some sandwiches. We inquired ahead and got a great recommendation for the Pasta Primavera. The pasta dishes don't come with a side dish like the other meals, but are very filling and large in portion.Fried pickles were a big hit at the table as were all entrees, starters, cocktails and beverages of choice. They can only take up to three to four cards so plan ahead for this. The do have an atm inside for cash, it definitely makes your experience easier overall and especially if you dine at the bar lounge where you can enjoy some truly talented individuals on Friday or Saturday nights. There is a $25 minimum to enjoy this part of Smoke House and it's easy to do as well as worth it.It's valet parking ($8) or street if you can manage it, but I will say the street is possible, but also very much like flipping a coin. Restrooms are in the front half just before the lounge bar and the main dining areas (which are several large open rooms with tables, booths and tons of ambiance). Our servers were truly attentive and amazing the entire night. I'm not sure I'd rush back for the food, but I would come back for the experience, good company to enjoy it with, incredible service and of course a nice drink, especially a glass of red. Might take my dad here for a newly post retirement treat, he'd love some live jazz, Rick Whitfield and Higher Ground (some of the regular acts here).
