Perfectly crafted latin fusion dishes with a great depth of flavor. Overall service was on point and beautifully designed outdoor/indoor dining space.Baked oysters - 5/5 - the best oysters I've ever had hands down incredible depth of flavor. Curry spiced sashimi - 3/5 - flavor was present, but it was a bit dry, I wish there was more of the oil for it to absorb.Afro-caribbean shrimp dumplings - 5/5 - couldn't get enough of the coconut bisque sauce. love the uniqueness of this dish.Tuna carpaccio yuca tostada - 4/5 - pretty good but definitely has a strong smokey taste to it. Patacones - 5/5 - perfectly cooked crispy exterior and soft interior similar to yucca fries or puerto rican tostones, but even puffier. both sauces complement it so well. Crispy pork belly - 5/5 - sooooo good i will be craving this dish in the future. pork belly was cooked to perfection and all the accompaniments make it 10x better. fave dish on the menu

We came at 530pm on a Saturday night and managed to snag a spot at the bar. The service was amazing, food was tasty, cocktail was fire, and the atmosphere was fun. This is a perfect date night spot or an intimate night out with you and your friends. I rated this place a 4 because the dishes are small.Costillitas $19.00 - the ribs were good and the sauce on the side provided a nice acidity. The ribs were very small and didn't have a lot of meat on them. It was basically two ribs cut into a bunch of small pieces.Baked Oysters $36.00 - 6 flavorful oysters that came out fresh from the oven, this was a recommendation from our server and I'd agree that this was one of our favorite dishesShrimp Dumpling $30.00 - 4 dumplings and a side of rice, the dumplings came in a flavorful sauce that was perfect to pair with the riceTuna Tostada $16.00 - loved this dish and the combination of flavor, once again it was such a small amount of tuna Kanpachi $32.00 - this was a pretty sizeable dish and was our favorite of the night, the vegetables that came with it absorbed the sauce very wellThere's valet parking for $15 and they accept credit cards

Ambiance & service: Visited on a weekday evening, and the restaurant looked like it was fully-booked. Chic, leafy decor, but it was SO dark in the half of the restaurant we were sat, to the point where I had to use my phone to see the menu, and I could barely see the dishes when they came out. Also, the table next to us was insanely loud, I could barely hear the person I was dining with. Service was pretty friendly, albeit a little rushed. Food:- Tuna carpaccio yuca tostada: fresh, light, crisp. It wasn't anything crazy, just a solid app. Small for the price, personally wanted more flavor/spice.- Sweet corn bollo: this dish was similar to a tamale, and it was probably my favorite of the night, though I did feel that I could get a tamale just as yummy for a quarter of the price. Loved the pieces of corn throughout, and the toppings complemented the texture well. - Afro-Caribbean shrimp dumplings: probably the most disappointing for me because I saw so many good reviews for this. The dough was too thick and I really didn't like the texture of the shrimp inside - it was lukewarm and kind of.. clumpy. I felt like I could've made better dumplings myself. - Kanpachi en banana leaf: flavor was a bit lacking for me but the fish was cooked very well, great moisture and flavor. - Fried chicken drumsticks: as a fried chicken lover, I struggled to finish my portion. It wasn't necessarily bad, but it really just tasted like... average fried chicken. I could tell that there were spices rubbed onto the batter, but even when we literally licked them, we couldn't taste much. Texture was good though, very crispy. Parking:We luckily found street parking just a block over, but there are paid lots nearby.I was so excited about this spot but it fell really short for me :'( Not sure if I ordered the wrong things, but I don't think I'll be back.

Wow, I read so many reviews about this place and it was featured in multiple articles so I was super excited to try it. Central American cuisine. Parking was only mildly challenging, parked a couple blocks away. Really beautiful ambiance inside, nicely decorated. Dim lighting, pardon the blurriness of some of my photos - I didn't want to be that person with the flash. Cool bar inside too, it looks like you're looking into a mirror, but it's actually the other side of the bar. They only seat you when your whole party has arrived, so I was directed to sit at the bar. I sat at the bar for over 15 minutes without the bartender ever giving me the menu or saying hi. I was pretty surprised and my first impression was starting to grow sour. Eventually, someone else came by, asking if I'd been helped, I said no and desperately asked for a drink menu. I ordered a glass of pet nat (sparkling). Honestly, not good, would not recommend. Maybe a personal preference, but I've had pet nats before and loved them. Eventually we were seated once my friend came. We ordered a few things and split everything. 4 dishes were plenty for 2 ppl.Tuna Carpaccio Yuca Tostada: This is one of their most popular dishes. I can see why! It's a really interesting and different take on carpaccio. You still get the thinly sliced carpaccio but it's on a delicious cracker. Wonderful combo.Afro-Caribbean Shrimp Dumplings: Thought these were okay, they didn't wow me and they were kind of cold.Kanpachi en Banana Leaf: The fish is generously topped with herbs so it's quite flavorful. I found it a bit too salty, though.Fried Chicken Drumsticks: Very crispy since it's double fried. Comes with a side of spicy ketchup with pairs with it nicely. Thought these were good.Overall, really love the ambiance of the restaurant, and the food is good. Though it wasn't an overwhelmingly positive experience, I wasn't wowed by every dish and my bar/drink experience wasn't the best. I would come back though if I was in the area.

Loved the mature, elegant yet beachy Venice Beach vibe. Service was friendly. The food and drinks were mostly interesting and delicious. I especially loved the Little Neck Clam & Uni Shooter, Baked Oysters with Dungeness Crab Guacho and Crispy Pork Belly--great quality of ingredients. However, unfortunately the Miso-Aged Duck was unable. It was cooked blue rare, which I don't mind since I love raw meat, but the problem was the skin. Duck skin needs to be properly cooked--crispy, rendered, or other treatment. Instead, it was chewy and gristly, making it hard to swallow. Maybe it was just an off night, but honestly, I'd prefer my own shio-koji (the mother of miso) cured duck any day.We also weren't into the "all-natural, new-age" wine list.May be we'll come back for the cocktails and that Clam & Uni Shooter.

Came back in early November 2024 as a party of three. I got a last minute reservation on election night, and the food was still as good as the first time we visited. Service was friendly and efficient. Would highly recommend visiting.

FoodWent here for my birthday with some friends. Got here a bit early so we waited at the bar for our table and started off my night with a drink of the week that the bartender recommended. It was a really good drink, just the right amount of alcohol with a refreshing taste. We got sat at our table and ordered another drink, the smoke show. The smoke show had a nice flavor to it with the chile complementing it quite well. For our appetizers, we got the surf clam ceviche and the kanpachi ceviche. Both were pretty good and fresh, but I definitely preferred the kanpachi ceviche as the flavors were more complex. For our entrada, we got baked oysters, and afro-carribean shrimp dumplings. The oysters were pretty good, fresh and had flavors that complemented the oysters well. The dumplings were definitely the highlight of the night for me. The rice it came with was cooked well and had good crisp to it that was complemented by the coconut bisque that had just the right amount of spice to it making for a perfect combo. The dumpling itself was delicious pops of flavor in your mouth. For the mains, we got the pork belly and the fried chicken. The fried chicken were delicious, juicy and airy and perfectly seasoned. The pork belly was okay for me. Delicious and crunchy. Lastly, for our dessert we got the coconut flan and the raspao. The raspao was a fun dessert, wherein you get a big bowl of crushed ice and multiple sauces and milk. The concept of it was fun and we definitely had fun tasting all the different sauces but the actual taste was just okay. The coconut flan was my favorite dessert as it was nice and creamy and indulgent to eat. Service/AmbianceDinner time was packed so it was a good thing we had a reservation. Our server was really nice and accommodating and made some good recommendations on what to pick in the menu. Service was pretty timely and the ambiance of the restaurant was definitely on the darker side. But overall, I enjoyed our meal altogether and would definitely come back on occasion.

My friend and I came here for dinner on New Year's Eve. I used to come to this spot quite a bit when it was James Beach, so we were excited to check this place out. The inside was beautiful and we sat by the Christmas tree, which was still up lol. I love how you can still bring dogs into the restaurant too. The food was incredible. We shared dishes, and our server recommended 4-5 for the table. We had the patacones, sweet corn bollo, kanpachi ceviche, tuna carpaccio and the gaucho. It was more than enough for 2 people. While I would recommend all of them, the 2 that really stood out were the ceviche and the gaucho - which was a savory porridge. Our server was very attentive and helpful with recommendations. Throughout the evening, they began clearing tables for the late night celebration. Our table was the last one on the main floor, and the general manager came over to apologize for leaving us alone on an island. He followed that up by comping each of us a drink which was a very nice treat. I'll definitely stop back in here again!

I saw that Si Mon was on the list of 101 best restaurants in LA so I made a reservation for dinner! FLAVOR (4.1/5):1. KANPACHI CEVICHE: The ceviche was good! The plantain chips were a great pairing and made it fun to eat. 2. TUNA CARPACCIO YUCA TOSTADA: Started off strong with the tuna tostada, which was the best dish of the night. Perfect for sharing between 2 people, although I honestly wish we got another round - they were that good. Smoky, light, and flakey with some bite from the black lime. 3. AFRO-CARIBBEAN SHRIMP DUMPLINGS: The shrimp dumplings were given much praise by others, but to be completely honest, they were a miss for me. The traditional shrimp filling felt disjointed when paired with the latin-inspired sauce. If there were another element to make it more unique and less reminiscent of traditional shrimp dumplings, then I think it would have been a more cohesive dish. Something to note is that they use a thick wrapper - I personally enjoyed it, but my friend did not. I highly recommend getting the coconut rice as a side. It provides a nice savory/sweet balance and the texture of the crispy bits was addicting! 4. TASAJO STYLE CARNE EN PALITO: The steak was good, but after the tuna tostada knocked it out of the park, everything else fell a little flat. I did think the potato cream and horseradish combo was delicious. 5. BRANZINO ASADO: It's a tradition of mine to always order branzino if I see it on the menu. Sí Mon's was good and packed with flavor, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough to knock Bavel's branzino from the top ranking. In terms of our mains for the night, I think the branzino slightly edged out the steak. 6. COCONUT FLAN: The flan was just ok. It was too sweet for my taste. I also prefer an almost jello/pudding texture for my flan, while this one was closer to a creamy cheesecake.SERVICE (4/5):The service was good - wait times in between dishes were a little long, but the service overall was very efficient. Table turnover was fast and water refills were noticed quickly by bussers.AMBIENCE (4/5):Low-lighting and can get a little loud. Good for date night, especially on a first date if you don't want them to see you very well. PARKING (3/5):I believe they have valet, but I found street parking. TAKEAWAYS:Overall, I did enjoy Si Mon, particularly for their appetizers. The tuna tostada was the highlight of the night and outshined all the other dishes. Would I come back? Possibly. Do I think it's worth a try? Absolutely.
