Rutt's Hawaiian Cafe

I finally got around to writing my review of Rutt's Hawaiian Cafe in Los Angeles after visiting last summer, and it's well-deserved praise! We ordered the Kalbi plates with mac salad and white rice, and everything was absolutely delicious. The Korean short ribs were perfectly cooked tender, flavorful, and just like the ones I remember from living in Hawaii. I'm always skeptical about Hawaiian dishes on the mainland, but Rutt's exceeded my expectations. I just wish they had a location in Virginia!The staff was welcoming and attentive, and the service was quick and efficient. The outdoor dining ambiance was casual and inviting, with a relaxed vibe that made it feel like a slice of home.As you can see, I left nothing but bones, which says it all. Rutt's Hawaiian Cafe is a must visit if you're craving authentic and satisfying island-style food. Very satisfied!

I am not going to use Rutt's anymore, I have been coming here for years and even had my wedding catered from hereToday our family got together and I called & ordered a small tray of macaroni salad, a small tray of Spam masubi and 3 lbs of Korean pork We ordered sandwiches from somewhere else and just wanted a little extra food from Rutts After several hours I looked at the receipt and noticed that I was charged $20 more than expected so I called and the employee Max explained that I must have made an error, and I told him that was fine OK.. whateverBut as I was talking him I was scrolling the website found on the tray of macaroni that I was talking about and I mentioned that I'm looking right at the $25 tray onlineAnd he told me to come in and he would give me the $20 back to my credit card It was a huge inconvenience to go back because it's late and I'm tired and it's just $20 .. But I decided to go and get my $20 , I walked in and waited for him for about five minutes to come out, when he came out, I showed him the website $25 tray, He pulls up the website and shows me different prices than tells me that he will make a note and tell the manager and get back to me I don't live on the west side anymore. I'm not gonna go back back-and-forth from my hometown to Mar Vista for $20. He should not have asked me to come back to get my $20 if he wasn't going to give it to me and still trying to shift the blame on me. (Saying I'll make a note and tell the manager you "meant" to order the $25 tray) like what?? I did order the $25 tray I left there without getting my $20 and what a waste of time and energy after he told me to come !

I love popping into Rutts for a good tasting meal. With portions large enough to share and a good switch up to the big chain Hawaiian joints. Rutts has proven itself as a Guy Fiere approval. This spot has a great catering business and cranks out the Hawaiian flavors exceptionally well. Their classic "Royalles" are a must try. I myself typically opt for a Hawaiian plate with Katsu or Kaluah Pork but nothing here has disappointed.Breakfast is always good whether a loco mocco or the corned beef hash off the special board. (They're even accommodating when I ask for the corned beef hash and eggs with grilled onions and rolled up in a burrito,). Breakfast is served all day. And their burgers are pretty damn tasty too! The prices are good especially when you look at them based on portion (it's rare not to leave Rutt's without a Togo box with left overs).The spam masubi is a great deal - two large pieces for $5.00. And they also do a happy hour special for $5.00 deals The team running the show are very nice, quick and accommodating, always greeting you with a smile.

After years of driving pass them going and coming from Costco, my family and I finally stopped in tonight for dinner. Now, I'm part Hawaiian so I've been very excited to try them. My wife has traveled to Hawaii sometimes for work so she was curious to give them a taste as well. We ordered a lot to try different menu items, and unfortunately we were both disappointed. With a few different things. For one, their sides were unproportioned. Three scoops of rice to one scoop of macaroni salad. Odd. And speaking of their macaroni salad, it was definitely Americanized with a strong relish taste. We tried a total of seven meats. Most of which, very dry. Had flavor, not a lot but very dry. Customer service was good. Nothing special but friendly and fast. Not to sound weird but I was hoping and assuming they'd be a family owed business. I was excited to meet other Hawaiians and talk. But the staff was not. I did ask if there were any Hawaiians working there and was told no. Overall, our experience was good. We enjoyed the food enough to be open to giving them another try sometime soon. They do have a few televisions so it's a cool hang so I definitely recommend them for a good meal and hang with some friends. Parking is limited but there's street parking.

This is a good hole in the wall, Hawaiian themed place for breakfast. I again had the Portuguese Sausage breakfast but this time with hash browns. The portions were generous and the food was good but I was a little disappointed in the hash browns, the texture seemed off, I should have ordered the Mac Salad. As before the service was very friendly and fast!

Really nice staff and decent place for Hawaiian! It's hard to get. Spam masubi: 7/10Too much rice and not enough spam. Spam needed more flavor too.Catering Sampler Special with Beef: 8/10I really enjoy the value of this meal. The meats are all decently tasty. I loved the crispy pork and it wasn't dry. The steak was pretty good and the chicken was okay. It needed to have more sauce and a better sauce though. The bread roll is good and the Mac salad is perfect!Chicken katsu and coconut shrimp: 7.5/10The vegetables were under-seasoned and the chicken katsu was too thin. The coconut shrimp was delicious though! Great flavor and they do a good job with the crispy crunch of the exterior. Mac salad is delicious!

Rosa was a great server and the staff are all phenomenal. Great customer service and a nice little place. Parking was no issue. Happy hour lunch is delicious and one of the best deals around LA. Today, I got spam musubi, coconut shrimp, and kalua tacos. Absolutely delicious. Was in and out within 30 minutes, meal was under $20 with tax and tip. Will be back!

I came by after work one day and just wanted to sit down for dinner. This place has been amazing, but I have not had the time to write about it till now. Everyone has always been so welcoming and has taken their time to put the best care in providing an awesome dining experience. During this particular visit, I ordered some spam musubis, kalua pork sliders, and boneless beef short rib tacos!Just saying them made my mouth water. All of these items were extremely delicious and if I had a bigger appetite at the time, I probably would have ordered another set of each one. They were all about the size of my hand, but they certainly contributed to my state of being full and satisfied. I would definitely dine here again and in addition to this round, I would probably order something new, which I believe will be just as good!

I ordered a regular size Hawaiian Royale and 1 spam musubi on DoorDash and the Royale was huge and fantastic! I've never had a fried rice dish like that and loved the variety of 2-3 meats in the dish, along with eggs. It was very fresh and not too oily like some fried rice can be. I added 1-1.5 of the sauce that came with it (teriyaki sauce?), and both packets of sriracha for spice. The regular size was enough food for 2-3 servings (especially after eating the musubi) so I'd order the Junior size next time. Total comfort food!

I've ordered breakfast from here at least a dozen times, and each time the breakfast sandwich is the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. The consistency of the bacon egg and cheese on Hawaiian roll is mind blowing, especially considering delivery. Also they whip it up so fast - very lucky to be in vicinity of this place. It is dang good comfort food.Have had a number of things to accompany said amazing breakfast sandwich - miso soup is surprisingly delicious, royale is good (bbq pork one can be a lil chewy, recommend bacon or veggie), side hash browns are better than side home fries, mac salad is straightforward, pancakes and French toast are solid, omelette is really yummy. They include lots of condiments which is nice.But I can't overstate the awesomeness and consistency of the breakfast sandwich. As long as you never change the chef/recipe, I'll never stop ordering!
