Stopped in for DineLA restaurant week and I am so incredibly glad I did. This spot is incredible! The ambiance is on point, very intimate but a good spot for a friend group down for a fancy dinner. The service was absolutely on point! Our server was funny and kind and checked in regularly on us. The food was absolutely amazing too! I came with a friend so we tried everything on the restaurant week menu and everything was tasty Tuna tacos- now these were hilariously small but the flavor was on point, this is probably the only dish I wouldn't order again Kabocha tempura- so incredibly thin, amazing batter, I preferred it without the truffle honey sauce but that sauce was deliciousSignature chirashi cake- the star of the show for sure! Perfectly crispy rice topped with a generous amount of fish/roe/avocadoBlack cod- very delicate flavor, not my preferred dish but it was tasty and the eggplant that came with was amazing Ribeye- amazingly tender and perfect seasoning, loved the presentation with the 4 corners of spices that you could add to your liking Baby carrots and shishitos- both outstanding side dishes! If I had to chose between the two I would pick the carrots but don't sleep on the shishitos! And the absolutely 100% star of the show was the black sesame ice cream. Such an incredible flavor, I could have had a whole tub of that and died happy. We each got a drink so after all was said and done the total was $218. Probably not the go to spot but if you're looking for a really nice dinner place every now and again that is worth the extra cost this is your spot hands down!

3.5 stars - I was going to round up but by the end of writing this review I decided to round down instead because we had a nice time overall but it was disappointing in service, taste, and value. Some dishes were drowning in sauce that overpowered dishes and most portions are tiny. I expect more refinement from a Japanese restaurant even if not a traditional one. We came here for dineLA which seemed like a good deal but realized that at least 2 of the courses were half portions so probably not worth it. The thumbnail size tuna tacos were so comically tiny my friend dropped hers picking it up and they only give you 2 rather than 4 for dineLA. The tortilla itself is hard and dry so I didn't even eat all of it, and the tuna had a sauce that overpowered the flavor. They should just make them bigger and give you fewer. I had amazing tuna tartare tacos as part of a tasting menu last week so it was a stark contrast. The sushi cake was mostly good but the crispy rice was a bit gummy and hard, not as fresh and well fried as it could have been. The flavor of the sushi cake was dominated by the ikura which seemed not the freshest (it wasn't as firm as it should have been and fishier tasting) so the rest of the fish could not be appreciated. I'm honestly not sure how fresh any of the sushi was since everything was overpowered in the first 2 courses, but the ikura was not particularly so.The vegetable sides were the most generous portions in stark contrast to everything else. I liked the roasted carrots and generous amount of black sesame but they drowned the dish in an overly sweet miso glaze that wasn't listed in the description yet completely overpowered the dish and made it taste more like dessert than the black sesame ice cream we had for dessert. The shisito peppers were mostly really large ones that were spicy for shisitos. I liked the cashew miso sauce which wasn't as sweet as the carrot dressing. We ordered the ribeye which was delicious and perfectly cooked medium rare, but so tiny - less than half the normal order based on photos. The fish was a much larger portion and I wish we had ordered one to try after seeing other people's dishes. It's a little odd how much larger it was than the steak since fish is usually a smaller potion. The black sesame ice cream was intense black sesame in a good way but they dont blend the sesame down so it's too gritty from the sesame bits. It was very creamy other than that but seemed more like a mousse than ice cream since it wasn't very cold. My friend received hers half melted and mine was ok but tasted more like a mousse than ice cream since it didn't taste cold. It was so melted they should have given her a new dish if they had better service. (I personally would have sent it back).Another issue - we booked a table for three at 6:30 which is early but it seems like they did a poor job of planning as there were parties taking up more tables than necessary (a 2-top at a 3 top, and a group taking up 3 tables that could have been at 2, etc) so they offered us a ridiculously small high top table for 2 where a third would have been constantly bumped, or the bar, or the likely empty outdoor terrace in the cold (and toxic air) outdoors. I don't think I saw anyone ever go upstairs to dine up there. So we chose the bar and could not talk to our full party since we didn't even get the corner of the bar. The host seemed embarrassed by the situation but treated us like walk ins and didn't offer anything other than heat lamps to make up for it. It's pretty frustrating since we made the effort to book reservations in advance for 3.

Food: 5/5Service: 12/ 5 (yes 12 out of 5 it was above and beyond) Ambiance: 5/5 Dined on NYE and honestly I wanted to gate keep this place but the food was too good, I could really taste the thought process and effort that went into each dish. Everyone-- esp. Chris and Jose-- were lovely and they really made the night memorable for us. Will be back soon!Christine

Had the pleasure of dining here on New Years Eve, 2024. Took a chance based on seeing Rokusho highlighted on Infatuation, and boy, it paid off. When we arrived, we were greeted at the door with a tasty glass of champagne. Great start! The interior is stunning - unique, simplistic, and potent. The menu is creative and enticing. Service was attentive and friendly, but not overbearing. We opted for the pre fixe, 5 course menu with an accompanying champagne/sake pairing. They also offered their a la carte menu - nice to have options. Also, love that the beverage pairing was a combination of champagne and sake, and that it was 3 glasses and not super expensive. A wine pour for every course would've been too much!First course was the oysters - oh my goodness. My mouth was tingling with delight. The oysters were melon-y sweet but not overtly so, and the sake was light and refreshing. Fantastic start. The okonomiyaki was next, and we were ooohing and aahing yet again. There was a generous amount of bacon/pork belly, and it was perfect with the crisp pancake. The tuna nigiri selection was good, particularly loved the truffles. However a couple of the bites had an overwhelming amount of wasabi - not my fave. Then, the scallops - similar to the tuna, they had too much wasabi for my taste. However it was easy to remove, and once gone, the dish was delicious. The salmon roe was fresh and bursting with flavor, and the scallops were tender and melted in my mouth. The Kabocha puree was a solid base, but hard to scrape up with chopsticks! The yakitori trio was a hearty addition to the meal. The Wagyu was the best of the three, juicy, tender and flavorful. The tsune/meatball was great as well, ginger forward and yummy. The thigh yakitori was straightforward. Overall this course could've been smaller, couldn't finish it and had several courses left. The uni mazume was gooey and delightful, and tasted like the sea through and through. The pasta cook was perfect, and the noodles were gooey and bursting with ocean flavor. The final savory course was the hamachi kama. The skin was flavorful and crispy, and the soy glaze put this dish over the top. Another large portion that we couldn't finish, but so so good. Finally, the beignets with cream. The cream was good, but the beignets were way too dense and cakey. I'm surprised they called them beignets. This was a miss for us.Also learned that they only do pre fixe over the holidays, and that these dishes didn't come from the menu - that they were a specialty only offered during the holiday. Wow! So impressive that they could offer such high quality without regularly serving these items. Love the creative spirit of this.Overall the dining experience and food were incredible, ambitious, restrained and inventive. The meal was very good value too, I could barely believe the price for the food quantity and refinement. There were a few things that were off - the course timing (sometimes we had 3+ courses on our table), seating was a bit uncomfy, wasabi overload, and a disappointing dessert. But the pros outweighed the cons by a mile, and this was a night to remember. Looking forward to coming back!

We had a lovely night at Rokusho! Our server was so attentive, food came out in a timely manner, and the ambience was perfect for a date night.Favorite dish was the nigiri and the sushi cake!! The sushi cake was basically cuts of sashimi on a layer of avocado on top of crispy rice. SO GOOD!The matcha cake reminded me of the Lady M crepe cake - with thicker layerscan't wait to come back

Rokusho claims to be a new, innovative spot for fine dining Japanese cuisine in Hollywood. It may be new, but it is anything but innovative. Now, I have several reasons for my decision to only give one star to this new LA restaurant, all of which I will share in this review. To start, there's an aura of pomposity and arrogance when approaching and entering the space, which is located within an apartment building, despite their attempts to claim being located within the Sunset Sound Recording Studio, which is actually down the block from this restaurant. Nevertheless, upon entering, it does contain a certain sense of intrigue (even if the brutalist, minimalist, concrete aesthetic is not really my favorite). Service started out decently - our waitress was very friendly and gave a few recommendations. My favorability towards the service would wane as time went on, however (more on that later). So, the food. It started out well! The Avocado Garden appetizer was flavorful & fresh with unique textures...although worth $21 for what was basically half of an avocado...? Not so sure about that. For the rest of the food menu items, it was pretty much downhill from there.Next up, the Wagyu Sando: $38, surprisingly tough to bite into for Wagyu, and overall disappointing. Gindara Nigiri: $10 each, honestly gave me no strong impression other than....bland. Namero Hand Roll: $20 each, similarly to the Nigiri, just....didn't leave an impression. Smoke Otoro Aburi Skewer: $21 (the cheaper of the other very pricey option), was brought to the table with a very smoky, showy presentation, but the taste itself was....flavorless. With a pair of cocktails, the cost ended up being $250+ (including tip). I honestly have never been more underwhelmed and more disappointed in my life at a place that I spent $200+ at. Despite ordering 5+ food items, this is the only time I have left a restaurant STILL feeling hungry. Most menu items were low quality, meager in portion, and basically flavorless. Also, when you consider the VERY overpriced costs of the underwhelming food here (before getting into some of the other issues), that is honestly just a travesty. Now, let's talk about a few other issues about this place.First of all, I'd like to warn you before using valet here: they charge $10 for it, but all they do is LITERALLY use street parking (which in non-gridlock hours of 4-7pm is technically illegal) to park your car. A friend of mine dining with me was shocked at where they were parking her vehicle!!As for my waning favorability towards the service - they kept taking away drinks and food items that we weren't finished with yet!! She would just come by and swipe it while we were in the middle of talking and not even ask us if we were finished! There was still half of the Avocado Garden appetizer left and a third of my friend's drink when she took each of them on separate occasions!!And one more warning: Most of their food/storage is contained within the fitness center of the apartment building in which they are located...so do with that information what you will when it comes to potential health issues..Considering all of that, I'm sure it's no surprise that I DO NOT recommend dining at Rokusho.I'd instead advise enjoying one of the numerous other excellent Japanese spots nearby!

I walked in on the evening of Super Bowl Sunday and it was empty, that is shameful. This was the best sushi I've had since I was in Japan 12/2023.Chef's selection was with more than I paid, amazing!

Everything here was amazing, from the ambiance to the service and the attention to detail in the presentation of each dish. The wagyu was cooked to perfection, while the sesame sauce that accompanied the soft carrots brought the whole dish together. I enjoyed my cocktails, and the service was also a 10/10. Would definitely come here again.

I had high expectations from the Eater article seeing that it was from a Tokyo Michelin starred restaurant, but Rokusho left a lot to be desired. Upon entering, we were very impressed by the brutalist and minimal design with unique plates and landscape. It is however quite small with mostly bar seating. The dishes started out strong with a Wagyu carpaccio that was beefy, thick cut, and reminded us of ceviche. The toro Taku was another well presented and unique dish that was fun and tasty.Unfortunately, it only went downhill from here. Our namoro handroll with Wagyu, egg yolk, and truffle had no truffle in it and was very standard, and our aburi otoro skewer that was highly recommended due to presentation did in fact deliver in presentation and with bones. When asked about the giant piece of bone, the server said that we got the best cut of toro which is why they overlooked the bone. There was no wasabi or soy sauce offered for any dish, and no hot water available as well. The sushi cake rice was hard to chew on and the rice stuck to our teeth, and most of the dishes were more bland - missing acidity, salt, wasabi, etc. To finish it off, Wagyu sando was chewy and tough, and when we asked the server what meat it was, she immediately said A5. I asked for a specific cut and she said she needed to ask the kitchen, then asked what dish it was.. so she automatically assumed A5. It as actually a cross beeed wagyushu (Wagyu + angus) but the cut was not mentioned - felt like filet or flank. Drinks were solid, and we were most excited and impressed by the plateware. I should have known better when they had a sushi cake on the menu.TLDR: definitely a Hollywood scene type of place which makes sense for the location, but if you're looking for good Japanese food, I would look elsewhere. Bill for 6 dishes (appetizers and small items) and 2 drinks was $270. Save your money for Uchi, and if you're looking for similar vibes, Kodo. This was possibly the worst meal we had in recent history and I do not like leaving bad reviews (especially this quickly) but this was such a disappointing ending to our night.

Went with my wife and had a great time. Food was very good, squash tempura with the honey truffle sauce was my favorite, I should've ordered two. Service was great, timely and attentive. Interior was cool, dark and modern.
