The dry mix was so good! I got the lowest spice level but it still packed a punch with the heat. I added cheese on top of mine and it really helped balance the heat. They have a variety of toppings for malatang here. I've been to 3 Malatang spots total but this place had the most topping options I've seen. They do charge a bit more than the average Malatang spot but it's worth it because the quality of the meat and veggies here is noticeably better than other places I've been to.

i wanted to give this place a try because i was craving mala. the price is the cheapest ive seen for mala which i liked. i like that they keep the scale next to the self service bar so you know how heavy the bowl is before paying. i really appreciated one of the staff members was confident in what had peanuts. they were able to take out peanuts for their soup base to accommodate to me which is something that is hard for other places to do. even for the sauce bar he gave me a separate side of their chili oil in case of cross contamination. the other worker wasnt as confident as the guy at the register. the restaurant is averaged size. for the food i think since i had the peanuts removed from the soup base it wasnt as flavorful? mine also looked more oily compared to the bowl my bf had. when i tried my bowl it just tasted like oil and i wasn't getting the numbing feeling. maybe ill try the dry version next time i have a craving. overall great experience

this was my 3rd time trying Mala Xiang Guo in LA - it was good, a little sweeter than I've had before. I feel like every time I've had it so far, it's slightly different so it's worth checking them all out to find your favorite. I would say the malatang was actually better here than the stir fry hot pot. For both, we got level 1 but we could've gotten spicier. And to note: this place didn't have that tingling spicy flavor or it was super mild. What I do recommend is the guobaorou! Omg it was delicious. So crispy and the perfect amount of sweet sauce. You have to get it to share. Overall good experience but it is in the pricier side. Inside is very clean and spacious. No wait on a Saturday for lunch. Parking is valet.

This place is so fun you get to build your own soup or stir fry, but be aware of putting too much from the food bar especially if you're not sharing with others, it can become too much food and more pricey since they charge by weight! the soup is so good I love the subtle bean taste. They have a tv playing variety shows from Korea eating at the chains over there and play great playlists. If you tell them it's your first time they explain everything to you and help you so that's nice. I order the spice level at a 2 it can get pretty burning pretty quickly because of the mala.

Amazing! This was my first time eating malatang and I'm hooked.Pixiu offers a "build your own bowl" concept. There's a variety of noodles, vegetables, fish balls, and other seafood to choose from. At the end, you can choose whether you want a dry pot or soup, your spice level, and add any additional protein (brisket or lamb) for extra $$. They charge per ounce so it could range anywhere between $20-30 depending on how much you add to your bowl. I filled up my bowl with a bunch of toppings, added brisket and it ended up being ~$40ish. It came out very quickly! My friend and I split a soup and dry pot. The soup was a level 2, which was a great level of spice. Level 3 was a bit spicier, so I wouldn't recommend it if you can't handle spice well. Everything tasted delicious! The brisket was soft and tender. The malatang was almost addicting - I couldn't stop eating it. We ended up having leftovers and it still tasted great the next day. Service was okay. It took awhile for the staff to walk us through the concept, even though it wasn't busy. I had asked for extra bowls but the staff forgot until I reminded him. They also sent us the wrong order a couple times. Everyone was really nice though.Overall, the food was great. I would come back!

I always enjoy coming here! At other malatang places, I feel like the broth is very heavy, but this spot has a cleaner taste. The veggies at the bar are fresh, and I like that there isn't a weight/price minimum (at least I haven't seen one here whereas some other places have one). Service is also fast!

I have never had dry pot before this and I was pleasantly surprised! A coworker had recommended this place for lunch and we finally went this past week. This was tucked away in a small plaza in Ktown with only valet parking. The restaurant itself is clean and has plenty of seating. It is self-serve so you essentially grab a large metal bowl and start piling as many ingredients from the bar as you'd like. At the register, you can indicate whether you would like dry pot or soup and your spice level. I went with the soup with Level 1 spice (even though I really wanted to try the dry pot) because I was concerned about the spice level. The lady at the register described the Level 1 as a Shin Ramen spiciness -- which I found out wasn't even that spicy and ended up asking for extra hot sauce later. The end product was an enormous piping hot bowl of soup that I barely finished. You could definitely share one bowl if you wanted to. The soup had a kick but also a nice creaminess that I wasn't expecting. Adding the packet of plain ramen noodles at the bar was an absolute game changer and would highly recommend. They also provide sides of white rice as well. The bowl was a lot pricier than I was expecting ($30 for my bowl). There is a base charge of about $18 for the dish and additional charges for each skewer you add and $2-3 if you want to add brisket. Overall, I think it was a delicious meal and perfect for a cold, winter night. The service was very attentive as well. I definitely will be trying the dry pot next time!

The next time you go to eat Mala Hongtang, Halla at me!What I ordered: Malatang, Mala XiangguoFood: My favorite Mala restaurant in all of SoCal! You pay by weight, so you choose your own ingredients and bring it to the front where they measure your bowl. They have various types of vegetables, mushrooms, meats, noodles, fish cake, and so much more! I choose the malatang, which is a soup dish, when the weather is cold outside. The ingredients soak up the broth, making each bite hot and flavorful. The Malaxianguo is my usual go-to, which is a stir fry dish, where even more flavor is poured into each ingredient with their various spices.Service: The servers here are always kind. Nice and quick!Ambiance: All inside seating. The restaurant is not too big, but there usually is no wait. You do have to pay for parking though, which is typical of los angeles.
