Pine & Crane DTLA never disappoints! The service here is always outstanding, and as a loyal customer, I love that they recognize me whenever I visit. It's such a great feeling to build a connection with the staff, who are always friendly and welcoming.Even though I usually stick to my favorites, I can never pass up the bean curd bun--it's an absolute must! I didn't snap a picture because I was way too hungry when it arrived, but trust me, it's delicious. My go-to dishes are the Sha Gua Mian Noodles and the Dan Dan Noodles, both of which are incredibly flavorful. If you're a fan of the rich taste of peanuts combined with a kick of spice, the Dan Dan Noodles are a must-try!This time, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I was in the mood for a dish with sweet rice, and my server recommended the rice pudding. Let me tell you--it was absolute perfection! The texture was creamy, the sweetness was just right, and it was the perfect way to end my meal.Whether you're a first-timer or a regular like me, this spot never fails to impress. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for delicious, comforting Taiwanese food in a welcoming atmosphere. Can't wait for my next visit!

a super cute popular spot that serves taiwanese dishes!! the line is suuuuper long but it goes by fairly quickly. the popcorn chicken was super crispy and flavorful, and the beef roll was super yum, just a bit dry. i ordered the wontons noodle soup, and i would say the noodles were really good, they were super chewy and tasted really fresh. the wontons in the were also really really good and flavorful, but the broth was quite bland. it's a good spot but imo it's more like slightly expensive taiwanese food!!

My husband and I came here for lunch around 1 pm on a Saturday. Parking was easy to find nearby even though some streets were blocked off. When we arrived, there was a line to order, but it moved quickly. Pine and Crane, like its sister restaurant Joy, operates on a pay-first model, where you order at the counter, then find seats. The restaurant was pretty busy, but it is large, so we managed to find seats right away and didn't have to wait to sit down. The ambiance here is trendy, with large open space. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and efficient. The food came out very quickly. We shared two appetizers, including the pork bun and the shrimp wontons, both of which were very flavorsome. I got the Dan Dan noodles, which my husband and I both loved. For mains, my husband had the three cup chicken, which I thought was excellent. I liked Pine and Crane a tad more than Joy, and will definitely be back.

This restaurant is an order-at-the-counter and then grab a table spot, which is great for walk ins. They have both indoor and outdoor patio seating and the food comes out super fast. It's best to order family style since the dishes come in smaller portions. The noodles were my favorite, and the tofu dish is spicy and great for vegans/vegetarians. Definitely get dessert, especially the shaved ice with fruit. There's also metered street parking, which is free in the evenings

Pine & Crane brings a modern and stylish twist to classic Taiwanese flavors, making it a go-to destination for both comfort food lovers and those looking for a trendy dining experience. The ambiance is vibrant yet cozy, with a cool, contemporary aesthetic that perfectly complements the bold, nostalgic flavors of the dishes. We started with the Chinese sausage, which was slightly sweet, smoky, and packed with flavor--a simple yet satisfying appetizer that set the tone for the meal. The beef rolls were another standout, with perfectly crispy scallion pancakes wrapped around tender, flavorful beef and a hint of hoisin sauce for just the right amount of sweetness. The dan dan noodles had a great balance of nuttiness and spice, with a rich, savory sauce that coated the noodles beautifully. The minced pork over rice was the ultimate comfort dish--deeply flavorful, with tender, braised pork that melted into the warm, fragrant rice, delivering that classic Taiwanese homestyle taste. To top it all off, the fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and seasoned to perfection, embodying that signature Taiwanese night market crunch. Each bite was addictive, with just the right mix of crispiness and tenderness.Beyond the fantastic food, the restaurant's energy made the experience even better--a fun, lively spot perfect for casual dining or a night out with friends. If you're craving authentic Taiwanese dishes with a trendy, modern twist, this is definitely a place worth checking out!

Casual setting for delicious Taiwanese cuisine. Perhaps the best Sha Gua Mian I've had in the States! The noodle texture was the best I've ever had--PERFECTION! Served with fried shallots, chili crisps, and scallions, I was tempted to add another order to our meal. The Kabocha Squash Potstickers were packed with shiitake mushrooms, squash, and vermicelli. The accompanying sauce elevated each heavenly bite.If you're craving a warm, comforting beef noodle soup, you will be genuinely satisfied. The generous portion of braised beef shank, mustard greens, and baby bok choy makes it truly satisfying. There are so many amazing menu items I still want to try--I will definitely be coming back!

Americanized Taiwanese food. You're paying DTLA prices for variety & ambiance here. Yes it's definitely overpriced & there are tastier more authentic taiwanese dishes out there but the final bill & experience isn't unreasonable for the variety and ambiance. * food taste - delicious but not quite the same as the authentic (& often cheaper) Taiwanese restaurants. Ex: the beef roll was a bit dry compared to more authentic dishes. The mapo tofu lacked the extra schezuan umami kick. But if you've never had authentic Taiwanese food you wouldn't be able to tell. Cucumber salad and wood ear mushroom salad's sauce was just poured on instead of "soaked" and marinated and integrated with the cucumber and mushrooms. The fried basil/mushroom/rice cake was yummy but again I've had crispier fried basil, more umami five spice coated mushroom and rice cakes. * variety - LOVE the variety. For individuals new to Taiwanese foods, this menu picks out the best most popular dishes so you're not stuck looking at a large Taiwanese menu in Taiwanese. * price - after our group of 4 ordered as much as we wanted and even two desserts, the individual bill for each person came out to be $35. Not bad for a 2025 DTLA restaurant. Best to Least Best Dishes:* Dan Dan Noodles - delicious must get * mapo tofu * crispy basil, mushroom, rice cake * Dou Fu - bigger bowl to share, comes with more toppings (boba, jelly, mochi, sweet tofu, beautiful ginger brown sugar glaze) * wood ear mushroom * smashed chili cucumbers * Forbidden Purple Rice Dessert

So I'm a huge Pine & Crane fan ever since they first opened in Silverlake. And apparently they've opened one in DTLA for who knows how long now? Anyway, had to try it obviously.Thankfully, quality is pretty similar to Silverlake but I think I'm biased towards the Silverlake location simply because it's the first one to open in LA. The menu is ever so slightly different but the staples are still there: Hipster Taiwanese food.Dan dan noodles always hit hard with that expert blend of peanut sauce and noodles and cucumbers. Can't go wrong with them here. The pan fried buns for some reason weren't too crispy this time around. What makes them amazing is the bottom is crispy, the rest of the bun is soft and fluffy, and the meat is nice and juicy. It was none of that when we ordered it but maybe it's a bad day. I hope it's not always like that.I didn't get beef stew noodle soup this time but that's always a popular dish so if you have no idea what you want, get that. Get the beef roll too. Hell, get some cold side dishes too while you're at it!Anyway, this Pine and Crane is great for dates, groups, or singles alike, so come on in and eat good food for affordable prices.

Came here at 1pm on a Saturday. It's an order first then get seated and have food brought to you type of establishment. It's pretty large inside with lots of seating for various party sizes. The vibe is very open and clean. The line wasn't too long when we arrived thankfully but we needed some time to figure out what we wanted. We also specifically chose this place for the vegan options. The staff were very helpful in giving recommendations. Between my friend and me, we got the cucumber salad, shrimp dumplings, mapo tofu, three cup chicken, dan dan noodles, and the bean curd clamshell bun. We also ended up getting two passion fruit green teas and they were so kind as to comp that for us for some reason?? It was really delicious too! My favorite had to be the dan dan noodles and the shrimp dumplings. These dishes were packed with flavor and felt like a good balance to each other too. The three cup chicken was a bit disappointing - I expected a little more flavor from it. In hindsight I would have tried the minced pork dish instead! The mapo tofu was great .. couldn't even tell it was vegan hahah. Service was also 10/10 - very attentive and frequently checked on us to make sure we were okay. Great place to dine at!!

Finally visited Pine & Crane after years of good intentions. I'd heard a lot of good things about the original location and their delicious Taiwanese dishes. I finally made it to the South Park location near DTLA for breakfast. While waiting for the restaurant to open, I asked a fellow customer (who happened to be from Taiwan) what I should order. He recommended the congee (rice porridge), so that's what I ordered. My first time having congee, it was a true delight. The garnishes (including fermented tofu, egg, among others) add a flavorful and rich taste to the bland porridge palette. Highly recommended. Service was friendly and prompt, with a casual indoor/outdoor ambiance. Full range of delicious drinks as well.
