Wow, what a gem! Absolutely, such a well kept secret. I drove by knowing i wanted sushi, never did I expect both food and service to be genuinely amazing.Small quaint place. I placed my order and immediately felt like it was my little confidential spot. I placed my order and everything was just such a pleasant surprise.Very high quality food. Took the leftovers to my co-workers who all agreed that his was amazing food. The ambience was relaxing and suggested I come back and bring my date for Valentines.

I only ever got delivery so don't read my review expecting to hear about the ambiance as I won't know. Now since I used a delivery app, all I can say about the service is based on how they packaged my food. I ended up getting the jap chae and the tteokbokki. Yeah I know... why order from a sushi place if I didn't order any sushi. Well that's cuz I'm a weird person and I do NOT like sushi. Lol Kimbap is a whole other animal and I love that stuff. Anyhow, I was craving tteokbokki and I did a search and this place popped up. I was a little hesitant to order from here as it's a sushi place. BUT I'm glad that i did. The food came packaged well and they even sent a yogurt drink that I'm guessing that they would give out to their patrons at the end of the meal. I think that this was a very very nice touch. I liked it a lot and I appreciated it. Now onto the main event. The food. The tteokbokki was spicy but not the red chili pepper spicy, it was more of a black pepper spicy. Normally, I do not like that but somehow, they got it to work and compliment each other which was a new one for me. AND most importantly, the texture of the tteok in the tteokbokki was absolutely perfect. It had a good chew... Exactly the chew that I love in a good tteokbokki. It also comes with an egg... They called it a steamed egg on their menu but it was a perfectly soft boiled egg which was an absolute perfection. The jap chae was also very very good with the perfect sweet salty mix with a hint of sesame oil. Loved it. So if I liked everything, why did I only give 4 stars? Well cuz I ordered an extra egg and it was sadly missing. But you can bet that I will order from here again.

I've been coming to O Sumo since before the "O" was added and I always enjoyed myself. Tonight, however, I had an experience that will likely make it my last at O Sumo. We went to eat at 6:15 with a party of 10-admittedly a large party. There was no one else there in the restaurant. The first issues came when it was time to order. The server clearly had never served tables before and couldn't comprehend that people wanted the same thing to drink--like multiple people wanting Diet Coke and multiple people wanting water was a difficult task to comprehend. After we finally got the drinks settled, it came time to order the food. Once again, he had a serious problem understanding that at a table of 10 some people might order the same dish--California rolls for instance. It took over 10min to get our order and it was clear to all that we would NOT be getting exactly what we ordered. It took 20min to get the first round of food out and even then they only had 3 dishes--for a party of 10. They brought out 3 more dishes and asked if that was everything--it was about 20% of our order. After explaining to them that we're were still waiting on the majority of our food they went in to overtime to try to make it up to us. Not by getting our food ordered and prepared in a reasonable amount of time, that would've been too hard, instead they came over and brought us too many clean plates. Too many fresh napkins. And too many chopsticks. It's as if they were making up for their horrible service by giving us all the untie sips our hearts could desire. Before we left--early mind you because I have 2 young children that needed to go to bed and weren't expecting a 2-hour dinner experience--my wife and I had received 4/7 of the dishes we actually ordered. If you're understaffed and can't accommodate a table of 10-even when you're empty--you need to be up front and honest about it. There's no reason I had to wait 2hrs to get a Diet Coke and Tuna Roll. There's plenty of sushi in Los Angeles, might i recommend ANYWHERE else. P.S. The food that we did eat was bland. The tuna was mostly flavorless and the CA Rolls my wife ordered just weren't good. All-in-all a disappointing experience at a spot I've frequented in the past.

O Sumo, I never knew! Well not since well before 2022. I haven't set foot in my (more recent years) very own neighborhood Sushi Bar in over 5 maybe even 6 years O.O... But finally did this week of this year and was I ever happy to enjoy a lavish lunch here. I'm talking HUGE!!My friend Steven was visiting his family for the weekend, a former SFV local and always sushi bar enthusiast. We decided on the O-mazing O in the Oaks, a great place to go.Open daily for lunch, happy hour (5PM - 7PM) and dinner (until 9PM/930PM most nights). They do close for change over between 330PM and 430PM, but open as early as 1130 during the week (much later on weekends). You can find street parking as well as limited parking in their back lot where you can also partake in patio seating. The street (Van Nuys Blvd) curves slightly here, just up from Van Nuys Blvd/Magnolia Blvd (above the Acura dealership and nextdoor to Off The Charts + Elevation Bar & Lounge).Sumo inside has so many places to sit (many tables w/ chairs of course), including at the bar seats and all it's first come first serve (you choose your own adventure aka seating). The menu is massive and it's hard not to eat with your eye as they have pictures of most items, especially if popular. I knew what I could get here (lots of plant-based, vegetarian and vegan friendly eats), but it seems they've added a bit more in the last few seasons and cycles since their very first review back in 2005... Though I believe a change majorly occurred 2019 (new management/revamp/social media - Instagram & more). We receive complimentary miso soups + cucumber salads + shishito peppers in addition to our orders... The table was FULL of food (for just us two lol)! Steven's Lunch Special Combo (Chef's choice sashimi + 10 piece + salad) and my Japanese Veg Mapa/Mapo Tofu (the best I've ever had) + avocado roll + rice for two. Needless to say this vegan and his non-vegan friend scored a win!We took our time, enjoyed the decor, each others company and ambiance.Splitting the bill for our birthdays (Steve's the day after and mine a few days ago) and toasting to the holidays, not to mention our amazing server who packed up our many leftovers was the perfect return trip, more than worthy of a great tip!Would consider doing a pick up order - living less than half a mile away and enjoying again with friends as well as family.Huge portions, huge quality and huge customer service!!

Amazing pieces of fish and an incredibly sweet staff! The owner is always interacting w his customers to give them the best experience possible! The rolls are cut nicely and filled with a generous amount of fish every time; they even dress them w caviar and gold leaves. They offer free miso soup as a starter and ice cream for dessert. There is free parking in the next door body shop too if you can't find street parking. Great neighborhood spot!

We came here for happy hour and there is a great variety of offerings. Our server was very nice and attentive. He made good suggestions on what to order, too. Small place and it filled up quickly. I wish I would have seen the B rating but oh well!

What a gem of a Japanese spot tucked away in Sherman oaks. The menu features an eclectic mix of Japanese, chinese, and Korean items. I think of it as a Japanese restaurant that also has the best Korean and Chinese dishes on the menu so you can have it all! Never have to debate where to go for dinner again! We tried the chirashi bowl, sushi set, and Korean mixed rice. Everything was absolutely delicious and the portion sizes are very generous. Service was quick and courteous. Interior is low key but modern and clean. Parking in the back or in the neighborhood. We had a great dining experience here!
