All of the dishes we had were amazing and the portions were large. The Cucumber with the sauce I don't know who ordered it but it appeared and the Cucumber tasted flavorful with the sauce. The tofu was super crispy and the sauce it came with made it better.. Noodles with lobster is a must. But it felt like there would never be enough noodle compared to the lobster ratio. The green veggies. I don't remember what it was called but we got the thinner one. It's supposed to be easier to chew and it was. We also got crab mau soup and fried rice. I don't think you can mess those up. A little sad that we couldn't get the large prawns but it was out of season. They had valet parking and it's tip however much you want.

Newport Seafood is like Red Lobster in its prime--except this place stayed true to its roots. Prices are on the higher end, but they've earned their reputation. They've been around for years, known for their wok-fried lobster and a menu full of Cantonese and Vietnamese seafood classics. It gets busy. Call ahead or reserve if you don't want to wait. Service is straightforward--efficient, not fancy. This isn't French dining; it's family-style, meant for sharing. The flavors are bold, rich, and heavy. If you're used to Japanese-style seafood, this is the opposite--but in the best way. I'd only come here with a group of four or more. That's how this food is meant to be enjoyed.

tl;dr the delicious signature lobster is as mouthwateringly and hefty as it is jaw-droppingly expensive -- but don't expect to be impressed by the more standard dishesNow a mini-empire, Newport Seafood traces its humble beginnings to a small San Gabriel kitchen opened by husband-and-wife duo Ly Hua and Wendy Lam in 1996. The unsurprisingly seafood-forward menu draws influences from the couple's experience in Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand. But the crowds come rolling in for a singular dish -- the famed Newport Special Lobster, which is priced by weight and starts at 4 pounds. The San Gabriel outpost has since upgraded to a larger facility off Las Tunas. Between the valet parking and white linen tablecloths, Newport leans toward the sophisticated side of Chinese dining. Walk through the double doors and find yourself face-to-face with tanks of live seafood. Intimate, ornately paneled booths line the narrow hallway to the right, while the wide-open main dining room to the left is dotted with round and square tables. Ocean blue recessed lights and shining accent bulbs create a bright atmosphere. The walls are decked with geometrically patterned laminate, and the ceiling-high cube shelves are lined with books, decorative dishes, and Chinese spirits. The conversation of patrons mixes with the clatter of utensils on porcelain. During peak hours, join the Yelp mobile queue and cross your fingers for a table to open up in a reasonable window.I first visited Newport for late Sunday lunch and directly nabbed a table. My partner and I arrived already planning to share the lobster and the oft-recommended Beef Loc Lac (aka shaken beef), and we added on a few lunch specials. The signature Newport Special Lobster was presented elegantly on a tire-sized platter. The shell-on lobster was chopped and sauteed in a sweet, garlicky butter sauce with plenty of onions, chives, and jalapenos. The amalgam boasted an excellent depth of flavor, even though it was admittedly messy to eat. Meanwhile, the huge portion of tender shaken beef cubes was bathed in a thick, syrupy sauce so addictive that I kept sneaking bites as we packed it into a takeout container. I found myself using the sauces from both dishes on the less exciting items. The Baked Shrimp with Salt and Pepper and the Baked Bean Curd with Salt and Pepper were crispy and piping hot, but the one-dimensional flavors weren't particularly salty or peppery. Lastly, the generous serving of Sauteed Peasprout tasted somewhat like spinach, but with a grittier texture due to the many little stems; the garlic tossed in did little to enhance the mostly bland flavor.Across 2 visits, service ran like clockwork -- the coldly efficient staff brought out our dishes in the blink of an eye. Throughout the rest of the meal, they replaced our dirty plates, repoured water, and quickly brought our check and takeout boxes without us ever having to ask. And, on both occasions, my eyebrow-raising bills totaled more than $200, owing mostly to the signature lobster. While our dishes could reasonably have fed a hungry party of four, the sticker shock was no less difficult to swallow. So far, I've found that the lobster and the shaken beef are the only dishes worth the splurge, while the veggies are serviceable at best. But, as a showstopping meal sure to impress a guest, Newport Seafood has earned its spot in my repertoire.

Newport Seafood continues to deliver amazing food and great service!! For dinner, I was in a taste for some fried sole fish. It was crispy and flaky white fish, loved the taste with the dipping sauce. We also got the bok-choy in oyster sauce, Kung pao chicken without the peanuts, salt n' pepper pork chop, and pan fried noodles with shrimp. Everything came out hot and freshly prepared. The flavors were on point for each dish. We enjoyed all the different flavors of each dish. Thank you Newport Seafood restaurant for the exceptional service today. We'll be back for more!!

HOUSE SPECIAL CRAB FOR THE WIN!!!I know, I know... i DID write CRAB and NOT lobster, intentionally! Lobster is what everyone raves about here and the crustacean is even on the restaurant's logo. However the Michelin Star blurb not only gives nod to the Lobster but also The Crab creation here. And more importantly, Wifey prefers crab over lobster! That's enough for my book lol! To celebrate her special day, we made a special trip out to the San Gabriel Valley to witness what all the hubbub is all about regarding Newport Seafood! Place IS rockin' a Michelin Star, to say the least! Yelp Directions are on point. There is a choice of Valet parking or street parking available. The layout is spacious with Chinese influenced decor. We were able to secure a table pretty fast, fortunately. As we were departing though, the line to get in was long!!! After Wifey perused the menu,, we ordered a few options NEWPORT SPECIAL CRAB: Wifey wanted to do a taste test between the "The Special" and the "Salt & Pepper" crab options. The winner was definitely "The Special!" This concoction of herbs & spices, fresh jalepeños, green onions, and clarified butter that the crab is fried in creates a delicious taste of the crab meat inside. Definitely finger lickin' good with this dish! Well worth all the effort needed to gather all the crab meat from broken off pieces. Would she get this again? Absolutely, she says!SALT & PEPPER CRAB: The flavor of the crab meat with this preparation is no where near "The Newport Special" yumminess found on its plate. All the flavor is basically stuck on the crab shell, and no flavor penetration. So is the idea to lick the crab shell THEN eat the gathered crab meat or maybe, rub the meat on the shell first before chowing down? I don't know the answer, but was really hoping the tastiness of Salt & Pepper Squid dish would be similar to this. It unfortunately, is not.BEEF LÚC LÁC: Now THIS!?! This was DEEELICIOUS!!! A huge plate of choice cut beef that is prepared so masterfully that each piece just melted in your mouth! WOW! It may say "seafood" on the front door, but this turf option will blow you away!SHRIMP WITH WALNUT: Not the typical mushy, overly sweet dish you find at most places. There is a nice carmelized shell that covers each & every shrimp, adding a crisp texture, yet there's still a moist plumpness to the meat. The sauce is mildly sweet and flavorful, but not covering the plate, just the meat. Walnuts are candied but not overly sweet. Very impressed with the quality of this dish!CRISPY FRIED SQUID WITH SALT & PEPPER: Kind of the typical salt & pepper dish, but not as much heat as I'm use to, but flavorful nonetheless. Batter is crispy. The squid is cooked just right, so there is no chewiness to the meat. Tasty, would still order again.RICE NOODLE BEEF HONG KONG STYLE: This is a wide noodle dish. My boys who are Chow Fun Snobs, loved this version. Noodles were soft and only slightly gummy, so a nice chew. Beef is tender and tasty. Not greasy at all. BIG dish, still not enough for my hungry boys lolVERY EASY RECOMMENDATION! Nom Nom level is high! Michelin Star is well deserved. Family can not wait to return ;)

Newport Seafood's name comes up in almost all the lists I've read about good Chinese food in Los Angeles/SGV, and it's obvious why. Their food really is good from their highly commercial kungpao chicken to their special lobster.Their beef loc lac was pretty special too and so is their house special fried rice. We had come specifically for their whole steamed fish but today, they didn't have any steamed fish at all, so they recommended fish filet in black bean sauce - and it was good.Amazing the steady stream of people coming in and out..... their service is fast and efficient so it took us an hour to go through our meal leisurely....makes for quick turn around for them.'It's spacious and well lit with the constant drum of plates and conversation - typical of a Chinese banquet hall.It is a stand alone building with a large parking lot that is valet service only.

I love this place. Their staff is always so welcoming and helpful. I did my wedding rehearsal dinner here and most recently came with my entire family of 15 for CNY dinner and it is always such a good time. We didn't have a reservation and they seated us, a family of 15 in a private enclave within 40 minutes. The food is delicious and fresh, the dishes are enormous, and the pricing is reasonable. Our waiter, Wing was also just the absolute best. The quality of this restaurant always delivers.
