Delicious meat!!! Delicious banchan! My husband is very picky when it comes to meat and he is usually unhappy after kbbq (usually bc we hit up AYCE spots), I didn't even expect to hear him compliment the meat here and repeatedly say "mmm...this is so good". My daughter loved the food here as well, she is a picky eater and the waiter took the time to try to calm my screaming baby as well. With the husband's high approval, you bet your butt we will be returning.

My friend and I have been to Mongtan BBQ a couple of times now and we sit solidly at 3 stars. I still need to go back and try more of the menu, and will for sure update if any changes. The first time we went, we were one of two tables in the restaurant, and then the only table for the last 30 minutes of our meal. The staff was showing their indifference to being at work & didn't seem to care we were there, then from 845-9pm staring at us dining & chatting. I'm sure this isn't the norm, they must have needed to close early that night, but it was uncomfortable. The second time staff was fine and they do cook all your meats for you at the table. Here's our issue with the taste here...using charcoal is awesome! I'm old and love that ish because it brings me back to my childhood kbbq spots in chicago. However, they seem to be using gas and charcoal and unfortunately, the gas is leaking a bit too much in the meat. We all know drips and drops happen, but our meat both times has had that chemical aftertaste propane can leave AND was overly charcoaled with their signature nearly burned flavor. It's so hard to properly judge the smoky flavor when it was nearly overpowered. I love bulgogi a whole lot so it was a bit disappointing. Now, we've gotten beefs both times so we may need to try other things on the menu. But...y'all gotta get to the bottom of that propane entanglement in the flavor. Now both times we were in, it was not busy, so I'm wondering if it was just sloppy preparation? And I know it's special wood from Korea being used too...ahhh...don't mask the flavors, it made me so sad.But even aside from that, meat quality was decent but not quite of the quality to the price point. Now, the meats leave something to be desired, but I did love their banchans!! Their potato salad was incredibly delicious with a light sweetness to it, loved their eomuk bokkeum and appreciated their kimchi.I don't want to give up on Mongtan BBQ as they have a very cool concept! But...needs a bit of improvement! I'll try again in a year and keep you posted.Important to note, they are not associated with the famous Seoul restaurant of the same name.

I would say top 5 kbbq places only because I do not do AYCE anymore. This is a la carte, combined with the imported side dishes from Korea, the service, and the food, it is well worth the 5 stars in my honest opinion. Since there weren't a lot of people, I was able to talk to the waiter about what kind of side dishes are different and how to eat them in what combination. This is also one of thew few places that use charcoal to cook their meat. They were also to able to explain why that is. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience because this was also one of the few places where I would intermittently eat the sides along with the meat. The pacing at which they cooked was good and you didn't feel rushed to stuff yourself.

If you're looking for rude and condescending service then I highly recommend making "reservations" to this place.

Hidden in Plain Sight. Mongtan is a zero frill charcoal / gas grill kbbq with some damn good meats, and servers thats know how to cook to perfection. Came by with some friends on a saturday and there were to ahjussis at 1 other table. The place is super low key, but when you only see uncles, aunt, and grandparents in a place you know theyre doing something right. The vibes are mostly zero frills, but they do have TVs on playing random sports. Go seated right away and got the big combo and added on the bulgogi because friends that went before raved about (i know what you're thinking too right? but just wait) To start Chadol (brisket) was a really nice thicker cut and super juicy. Next the Pork belly came up and our guy cooked these so perfectly. Got a perfect amount of crisp on them on the outside yet still super tender and juicy on the inside. On to the prime boneless this was extra beefy and tender. One of my favorite bites. Next up the ribeye. A Nice big piece grilled again just right. Tender and Juicy. Another W. I think im forgetting what was next but lets move on the the bulgogi. You'd never think bulgogi would shine anywhere and if it did its probably someone that doesnt really know korean bbq or only like marinaded things, but their marinade here is savory leaning and not very sweet, so the bulgogi soaks up that good savory flavor all the while remaining juicy and tender, but to top it off the servers grill it over the charcoal so that it soaks up that nice smokey flavor. Honestly havent had bulgogi with this much depth of flavor in ktown, and I have to weirdly but happily reccommend that you not skip this and add it to your combo if you havent had it before. Definitely a hidden gem and worth a stop. Check this spot out!

First off I saw the name and it reminded me of a famous bbq place in Korea. After checking with the owner there is no relation but they did not disappoint! The banchan (side dishes) were all very good and had a nice variety. They do a pickled onion that goes good with everything! My gf really loved the soybean soup, reminded her of her mom's. They provided excellent service and made sure everything was good. I enjoy ala cart kbbq more than all you can eat. 감사합니다 사장님 너무 맛있었어요! Parking was easy on a Sunday afternoon.

We had an incredibly delicious meal. The charcoal added a wonderfully fragrant touch, enhancing the flavor of the meat, and we enjoyed a delightful dinner with friendly service that made us feel truly happy. Thank you, Mongtan!

With so many other kbbq spots around, the fairly new Mongtan BBQ is differentiating themselves by using a charcoal grill with charcoal sourced straight from Korea and marinating their beef ribs in soy sauce for 24 hours The meat quality here is amazing and we loved that it's a low-key spot We ordered the Mong Tan Combo for 2, which came with:--Black Angus AAA Marinated Grilled Beef Ribs--Prime Seasoned Boneless Beef Ribs--Steamed Egg--Pork Kimchi Stew

This restaurant is not worth even one star.Don't waste your money.I ordered the pork combo and the meat smelled so bad & disgusting. I thought I would throw up. I ended up ordering an extra steamed eggs and eating it with rice. The meat quality is worse than what you get at the market. Never come here. It smells so bad it's disgusting.
