Mexicali Taco & Co

Everyone in Los Angeles has "their Taco spot" and Mexicali Taco is definitely mine, after having been coming by here and there for going on 10 years.Used to always get the brick sized Mexicali Burrito with Carne Asada, but after trying out more of their menu over time, I'd have to say my favorites are the Baja Style Fish Tacos and the Vampiro Quesadilla packed with garlic sauce and Al Pastor.The Fish Tacos though. Each one is really more like x2, with a huge piece of perfectly fried fish and an extra tortilla so you can easily make that second taco happen. The Vampiro Quesadilla goes with it perfectly because it's on a different end of the taste spectrum, it will also fill you up.The Agua Frescas are also really good, made fresh in house. They've got the usuals like Horchata, Jamaica, and Watermelon - but the one to look for is Spinach Pineapple, I'll bet you'll want another.Service is always friendly, and the kitchen is fast. Nice setting with both indoor and outdoor tables. I've also never seen it completely packed, I'm sure many of the nearby residents take orders to-go.

Was excited for this - asked for recommendations and got the lunch special 3x tacos + soda. Northern Baja Style? Food was confusing. It seemed more like some fusion concoction. Although the open face shrimp was good, the fish tacos were awful. They were super bland and because they put the taco together when it was right out of the fryer, the taco became one super mashed thing with shredded cabbage on top. No crunch, no seasoning, just mush . Bleh. I don't know know. For me this was not it. Def not "Baja" either.

Lunch specials are a great way to try the different menu options. Plus the salad bar has freshly made salsa, with a variety of veggie options including the creamy avocado salsa. The one item I do miss is the shredded cabbage. But the add-on ingredients work for an authentic Mexican meal.Quick service and plenty of seating options. The parking lot has several picnic tables with umbrellas, eat outside to take in the sites. I tend to get the vampiro and taco. Vampiro is a quesadilla with a garlic sauce on a flour tortilla that can be dressed up at the salad bar. To balance the carne asada in the vampiro, I order the veggie taco. Freshly grilled melody that's just as delicious.

I came for lunch so the lunch crowd was there. Parking can be cumbersome as it is metered. However, I think this has to do with the time you come. I wanted to have a taco and try the cachetada so combo 2 was the perfect choice. They do not skimp on the meat which is nice. The lunch combo comes with a drink and some chips and I was stuffed. I enjoyed the chorizo taco and I got asada cachetada. Cachetada comes on a crispy tortilla with cheese and the meat on top. I'd come back! What would stop me from coming is not being able to find parking.

Haven't been here in a minute, but same if not better! The owner Ivis is on it. Not only was the food amazing, his service is impeccable. Everything from The aguas frescas, to the tacos, to the salsas are great. I had to get the azada fries and the battered fish tacos. The meat is charbroiled and freshly done. Not dry very juicy. Come see for yourself. Nicely redone restaurant, new tables are more comfortable too

Hands down the best Al Pastor fries! I came all the way from San Diego, as my friend from LA mentioned this being this best Mexican spot in downtown LA! Will definitely be coming by again!

I didn't even get to try the food because the lady who worked at the cashier was incompetent and rude. She knew literally nothing about the food then acted like it was an issue to simply ask the kitchen what was in it. Everyone else was really nice but she really should be working someplace where she isn't going to make it lose customers

I have the pleasure of knowing the owners of this amazing spot. Their food is delicious and I am not being bias! Their aguas frescas are not too sweet and just perfectly refreshing. If you like spicy food, you must try their fish tacos! It was soooo good. Can't wait to go back and try something new.

love this place , best service ! the food was amazing ! And the ambiance was nice !the shrimp tacos are my favorite! Would definitely recommend to others Staff was friendly and cashier was amazing as well .
