Have known the owners and Mayura since they started it as a small restaurant near USC. Amazing food and great service!

We drove up from Orange County to meet family for dinner and decided to try this Indian restaurant based on its rave reviews. It was our first time here, and we made a reservation for 6 p.m. When we arrived, the restaurant was fairly quiet, but it quickly filled up soon after. We ordered onion pakoras, vada rasam, and samosas as appetizers. The onion pakoras were perfectly crispy and delicious, paired with two chutneys (a sweet date chutney and a cilantro-chili chutney). The rasam-vada was flavorful and spicy, and we loved the heat! The samosas were just ok in our opinion. For our mains, we ordered South Indian specialties--uttapam and dosas. The dosas were both crispy and fluffy, perfect for dipping into the coconut chutney and sambar. We tried the Mysore and Gunpowder dosas and would recommend both. My father-in-law ordered the Uttapam and he seemed to like his dish. The ambiance is super casual, and the service was exceptional. It's clear that the owners take great pride in their restaurant. They made a point to check in with us when walking by, asking if everything was to our liking. The restaurant is located in a small plaza, and parking is available.

Love love love Mayura! This is the spot for South Indian treats, the dosa! The owners really take pride and often come to chat while you are dining. Haven't had to stray from the veggie thali, it comes with everything. Always busy but service is quick and highly recommended for an Indian treat.

Came here on a Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and it was packed! They have fast service though and I was seated promptly. The food is fresh and tasty. Loved their curry and tried Indian pancake for the first time. Would totally come back!

We've only ordered takeout from here because of the pandemic, but we finally dined at their restaurant to try their dosa. The dosa was nice and crispy. It's definitely something you want to order and share. Mango lassi is always a must order. The biryani was nice and spicy. The palak paneer and dal masala were okay. The cleanliness of the restaurant was questionable. I saw a dead cockroach on the floor on the way to the restroom. When I left the restroom, it was gone. I hope it was dead/handled and not resurrected.

Drove over 50 miles to here for the first time about a month ago based on a suggestion from YouTube and it was fabulous! In fact, I made sure I got here just minutes before it opened so I could avoid the "possible" crowd. But I made it in as the second patron. The place was in a small shopping plaza at a street corner in Culver City, not far from Sony Studio. The interior was plain but very clean. However, this was not my main focus, food was!I ordered their famous Appam with Fish Curry, as well as the Masala Dosa, and they arrived within 10 minutes, which could be because I was only the second person at the restaurant. The food was excellent, fish curry was so creamy and just the right blend of spice! The breads were one of my favorite items as far as Indian food is concerned... so much flavor!!!Overall, a great place to have south Indian, and more specifically Kerala regional cuisine in Los Angeles, and SoCal in general. I would definitely come back again and again, as there are so many items I want to sample!!!

Mayura is a notable establishment that specializes in south Indian cuisine, specifically that of the Kerala region. As it's a Michelin Bib Gourmand, I was curious in giving it a try; that said, I ordered take-out and it was ready within 20 minutes for pick-up.The verdict:-- Masala dosa (10/10): probably my favorite of the trio I ordered. Soft crêpe exterior and a delicious interior full of potatoes and aromatic spices. I'd get this again.-- Kerala special appam w/ Kerala fish curry (8/10): I wanted to try a signature dish of Kerala cuisine, so I opted for the fish curry with appam. The appam was soft and spongy, which reminded me of Ethiopian injera (albeit less sour and fermented-tasting), and it did well to soak up the heavily spiced fish curry. While I did like the curry itself, the fish pieces strangely didn't taste like fish?? More like chicken. I did appreciate the generous portions of the fish (chicken?), and flavor-wise was very good.-- Mayura Special Dum Biryani (7.5/10): I do love biryani and while I appreciated the generous portions, I found the chicken to be on the dry side and difficult to eat with the bones. The rice was fragrant and flavorful, although I did bite into large pieces of spices, which made for an awkward experience to pick out the pieces. Not my favorite biryani I've had, but it was okay.Overall, Mayura offered a different and unique experience compared to the multitude of Indian food I've had elsewhere. I think if I were to have it again, I'd dine in-person, as I believe the food and experience would be better than just take-out. Pretty good!
