Classic California diner and a homage to the history of Venice. Autographed skateboards adorn the walls of this house converted into a slightly quirky restaurant. It can get crowded because the food is good with a reasonably sized (but not overwhelming) menu, along with the diner-sized portions, so aim for later in the day or weekdays if possible.Breakfast quesadilla is a go-to, along with the chiliquilles, but it's really hard to go wrong here.

The food is always delicious! I love their chilaquiles and omelettes. Portions are generous and prices are fair for what they serve. The service is always really prompt and friendly. This is where I come when I want a cozy, old fashioned diner experience. I love that you can have that neighborhood community vibe here. This spot has been here forever and I hope they never leave. The restaurant is small so prepare to wait for a table on weekends. One of my faves for breakfast!

We went here because I really needed biscuits and gravy and this place has it. Not only that, but they have a huge biscuit that's like 6in across. It was cut in half and loaded up with gravy. We also had bacon, eggs, potatoes, and a waffle. The biscuit was really good, the gravy did the job, but I thought there was something that hit a little off. I'm not sure what it was, but there was a sweetness from something. Maybe it was even the biscuit. The rest was exactly what we expected, which is good. The service was pretty good. We sat outside in the back, but people came through often enough. I'd like to check out the inside the next time I go. And I'm also going to get the biscuit plain and load that sucker up with jam. I bet it will be perfect built up like that.

My new favorite coffee shop/diner. Wonderful authentic rustic atmosphere, great neighborhood vibe. Food is fantastic with lots of choices having an extensive menu. Ridiculously large biscuits. Great for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast potatoes cooked in different ways and to order are exceptional. Coffee is very good. Parking can get a bit tricky, but is usually found with a block or so. Highly recommended, go there.

Parking: We found free street parking in the neighborhoods behind the restaurant. Experience: I've passed by this place on the way to Costco and there's usually a line on the weekends. We got there around 9:30am on a Sunday, and it was busy as expected, so no one was at the front. We wrote our name on the waitlist and it took about 10 minutes to be seated. There's indoor and outdoor seating at the back patio and a few small tables in front of the restaurant. I got the Santa Fe omelette and it was the perfect amount of food after a morning run. Overall, it feels like a solid no-fuss neighborhood diner spot.

Today was my 3rd time to have breakfast at Maxine's Cafe formerly Maxwell's Cafe since finding it in the Fall of 2023. Because I was close enough to get here and get back before heading in to work a customer today, I had to come in and see Sal (Chef), say "Hello" again, and enjoy a great breakfast. I also love the stickers giving a late 70s to 80s skater/beach feel. I highly recommend Maxine's Cafe -- open 7a-2p 7 days/week

We stopped in for brunch at Maxine's. We had an Omelette Your Way (ham, cheese and onions) with a side salad, French Toast, and Eggs Benedict. Food was solid and service was friendly. The restaurant has a diner vibe and feels like it's been around for a long time. Local patrons.

Love this little gem. Always good to support the community and this place is community! The owners did a great job bringing it back from death and the staff are warm and welcoming! Love the vibe of Maxine's, the ambiance of the little flowers and good old wood seating! Sal and Philene are of course my favorites! My husband got The chilaquiles and they are the bomb! Also really big plate of food. My daughter and I got the pancakes and the 2x2x2. Everything was good. Enjoyed the potatoes. Sal made my daughter a great hot cocoa!Want to try to French toast next!

Been living in the neighborhood for 30 years, but never got to go to Maxine's because there was ALWAYS a long line in the weekends (when I don't work!). On a Monday, I had to call in sick to take my son to DMV. After DMV, we stopped by Maxine's and guess what? No line! Food was good, and the service was awesome!

Nice little breakfast/ lunch/ brunch spot.I guess this was under different management and based on the article I read related to the former management, it's impressive that Maxine's cafe not only didn't give up; but they are a delicious and running business once more.Definitely seems to be a staple of the community with many regulars coming on the times I've dined and also plenty of sometimes visitors like myself.Food served hot and without delay all with a smile, yeah Maxine's is worth a try.
