Matu has been on my list for quite some time and today was my lucky day as I was in the area. I got there when doors opened at 5pm as I was advised there would be a line out the door. Why? Because Matu now serves their beloved wagyu cheese steak for dinner! But only at the bar and first come first serve. The cheesesteak was amazing. My first bite had me feeling euphoric and the last bite had me contemplating if I wanted to order another one for the road. The bread was toasted perfectly - Crispy outside, soft inside. The beef...oh my LORD, was so juicy and packed with flavor. It was definitely as authentic as you can get to a cheesesteak from Philly, but a little better quality. The pepper added a nice spicy kick. The chips were good, but wish they served it with their tallow fries. Overall, I would come back anytime for this sandwich. The staff was very accommodating and professional, parking is either meter or valet. Don't walk, run to Matu

I was excited to try Matu and booked a Valentine's reservation well in advance. The steak was wonderful. If I could go back, I would recommend the Rib Eye, Japanese salad, tallow fries, and the Pincha skewers. Jade was a wonderful server. My point of contention was that the tables at the restaurant were so close that dinner was interrupted every time someone got up. It was uncomfortable and disrupted the ambiance. I don't know if this was because most tables were two tops since it was Valentine's Day. If I were to return, I would ask for a table with plenty of space, maybe a corner. Although I enjoyed the food, you should not have to worry about this, especially at the price point.

One of the best steak places in Los Angeles--definitely a must-try! I ordered their Old Fashioned, and it was well-balanced. For dinner, our group of four decided to order the "Lock, Stock, and Barrel." The waiter informed us that it would be a lot of food for four people, but we went ahead with the order because we wanted to try the Philly cheesesteak, which is only served at the bar. Every dish was tempting. We loved the carpaccio, the filet salad was refreshing, the skewers were finger-licking good, and the ribeye melted in your mouth. For dessert, we shared a large cheesesteak sandwich, and it was comparable to the best cheesesteak restaurants in Philadelphia. Overall, if you love steak and beef and are looking for a restaurant for a special occasion, this would be my recommendation!

Get the Matu dinner for 2! And don't forget to add on the beef tallow fries. You won't regret it. It's a good amount of food that leaves you feeling full but not overly stuffed. I love the "warm redness" of the meat they serve. It's cooked to perfection without being overly bloody. Every dish was well portioned, seasoned well and extremely tasty. Drinks are well balanced though I did get buzzed after 1.5 drinks. Service was a little slow as it was a busy night. In fact, they were running behind and we had to wait to be seated despite having a reservation. Ambiance is intimate, dark and cozy, though the restaurant can get a little loud. Loved our dinner here. Will definitely return again.

Loved it! It was a great little anniversary dinner. I had my reservations for my husband and I. When we got there, there was a line outside already. Once we got to the front and gave our name, we were promptly seated. The decor and overall ambience was simple but elegant. We ended up getting the Matu Dinner for Two with the 12 oz ribeye and ordered fries and mushrooms as extra sides. The service was great, everyone was super nice and attentive. The food was very tasty. I would have to say my favorites of the dinner were the tartare and the filet with Caesar salad. The meat was super tender and they give you a side of salt so you can add as you please. I would say, don't expect to get super full off just the dinner set. I will definitely be back especially to try their Philly cheesesteak!

Funny story: we originally tried to go to a different steakhouse, but they turned us away because I was wearing athleisure. Oops. Luckily, Matu is more casual, and we were able to walk in right away for an early birthday dinner. We started with the picanha skewers, and wow--they were melt-in-your-mouth good. Super flavorful, and the tahini sauce was the perfect pairing. For the main course, we shared the rustic ribeye for two. I like my steak medium rare, and while this was closer to rare plus, it was still absolutely delicious. My partner, however, wasn't as thrilled since she prefers her steak more on the medium side. Luckily, the dim lighting made it hard for her to see just how red it was--crisis averted! If you're celebrating a special occasion, I recommend letting them know in advance if you'd like a dessert with a candle. Just a heads-up: it's not complimentary, but it's a nice touch if you're marking a special day.Overall, Matu hit the spot for a great meal in a relaxed atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit if you're craving quality steak!

I was super excited to try Matu, and it did not disappoint! My husband, our friends, and I had a fantastic dinner. We opted for the 5-course meal, which was an excellent way to sample a variety of dishes from the menu. The highlight was definitely the steak, grass-fed and sourced from New Zealand. It was incredibly tender, and perfectly cooked. Our waitress was great, she explained the menu, including how the ingredients are sourced and the specific temperature at which the meat is cooked. The atmosphere was lovely, creating a perfect setting for a relaxed and enjoyable evening. Considering the high quality of the food, the price felt very reasonable, especially for a coursed meal. Overall, a great experience. I would love to come back.
