Our groups of 20 had a business dinner meeting there in a private room. I hesitate to complain but the house music was so loud we could barely hear each other. At our request the restaurant lowered the volume. The food was very good and the selections very appropriate. I loved their guacamole and enjoyed their baked fish. Everyone in our group had a great time. Drinks were $$$$. I just had a Coke but members of our groups were surprised at the high drink prices. They were kind and didn't charge me for the Coke which I believe would have been over $8.00. All in all I'm glad we booked this restaurant. It's lovely inside and the staff was very friendly. I parked a few blocked away for $5 and could have paid a lot more to park closer. I enjoyed the walk as well. I recommend this restaurant and hope others like it as much as I did.

We came over the weekend for a friends birthday and there were 5 of us total but only 4 of us eating... where do i begin. We ordered our food and it took 1.5 HOURS to get our food. From the time we ordered to the time we received it. We asked our waiter (i don't want to name because i don't want to necessarily ruin someone's job but we'll call him S) after waiting about an hour for our food we stopped him and asked how much longer we needed to wait and he told us another 15-20 min. Our oysters came after an hour and 15 min but our food didn't come out until the 1.5+ hour mark. To the point that when our oysters came we asked for our check asap so we could leave and we never received anything. Had to wait even longer for our actual food. We even got our dessert of birthday churros that we asked to be brought at the end- BEFORE our food! The tables around us received all their food and drinks even though we were the first table at the patio. We were never checked on or given an explanation as to why it was taken so long or at least let us know if the ticket got lost. AND they charged a 20% gratuity on 5 people who waited so long for our food! 3 of us have past experience as servers so we would've left gratuity regardless but to have a non negotiable 20% is why this review is being made on top of the terrible service we had. We were ready to walk out and we were getting up from our table as our food finally came out (mind u 2 of us literally only had tacos and one person wasn't even eating)We've been to the other location so we were excited to try it out but this was probably the worst dining experience i have had in Los Angeles. Mind you, what looked like the manager with a suit and ear piece was in and out of the patio checking on all the other tables of just women and making sure they were taken care of but never once checked on us. I've never seen such poor serviceDon't go here!

Refusing to simply put on the heat lamps, for a Birthday celebration on the patio... NOT COOL. It was just over 50 degrees. I asked for almost 2 hours. Claiming they had no propane. I saw 5 near the restroom!!! Secondly , Im not a fan of the switch a roo. "We will have churros and ice cream for the Birthday table. BTW its $17 per person. Huh? That drink? $48I do have to say that the food was good, unique combinations that works well. But smaller portions than I would like.

We came to Mama Por dios to celebrate my wife's birthday . The waiter came by 1 time to take our order and then totally forgot about us . Other people brought our food out. We had to flag someone down to get another drink . Mind you we spent over 1k and the service was horrible . At the end the waiter said they're shorthanded but if we went to another restaurant he works at he would take care of us . Totally unprofessional. The food was so so nothing stellar either . My food was cold and not even tasty . The only good thing were the drinks . Won't be coming back again . It's a gimmick restaurant.

Came to this place to celebrate my friends birthday, I think she found out about it via Instagram. With a party of 16 people, we were ushered into one of the two private rooms. What I got to try based on what the table ordered:Guacamole: Aesthetically it looked nice being served in a molcajete, but taste wise it wasn't salted enough, not enough lime, and I found the inclusion of cucumber slices quite odd. That's my opinion.Queso fundido champinones: solid mozzarella taste, but I could barely taste the fresco for some reason. Maybe my friends ate all the zucchini/corn, but for $16 I think it wasn't bad for probably 5 people's worth.Las fajitas (mixed): the entree I ordered for myself. The presentation was nice, but if they were going to give me fajitas separately from rice & beans it would throw off the food delivery times, like the skewers would have cooled slightly. As for the food itself, beef is the most preferred option, Shrimp is 2nd. The glaze was sweet but I think slightly overpowering. It was probably just me but it felt like the service was slower than expected. Food is one thing, but a lot of times I noticed some of us were looking to get more water and it'd take 20 mins. It gave off club vibes, loud music, etc. that I think folks sitting outside might get better service since the employees are moving around more.Parking: always such a hassle in financial district dtla, but they have two valet options for the restaurant. For $12 base, I'd say it's decent for giving you peace of mind.

We ended up having dinner here on Saturday because we could not make it to our original reservation at a different restaurant. We were a party of 5 and we were seated outside on the patio. The table was meant to be for a party of 9 so the seating was weird as there was 4 empty seats.. Our server came out not long after and gave us water and time to look over the menu. The water comes bottled and it is about $7.50 per bottle - we got four.We all ordered something different (food and drinks). Our drinks consisted of:MAMAZITA - Tequila, raspberry, raspberry liqueur and lime juice. $21COCO LOCO - Coconut water, coconut rum and pineapple juice. $21LA CHURUMBELA - The 3 best selling margaritas: mango, tamarindo and strawberry. $20AZULITO - Cucumber mix, blue Curaçao zero alcohol, lime juice, simple syrup, Sprite. $14FOOD:App: GUACAMOLE DE CHICHARRÓNEntrees: CAMARÓN CON PULPO - 22. Cooked shrimp, octopus, black sauce, cucumber, onion.TACOS DORADOS - 28. Hard shell tacos stuffed with option of: Chicken and Cheese. Seasoned cabbage, pico de gallo, cream and cheese, beans.CHICKEN IN THE BUSHES - 22. Tender, crispy chicken, Caesar SaladSide of French Fries - $15FILET MIGNON - 55. Wrapped in bacon 8oz. asparagus, mashed potato.ENTRAÑA PRIME - 45. Skirt steak prime, roasted potatoes, quesadilla, pico de gallo, guacamole. The guac came out not long after and it was fresh. It sadly had no flavor though and there was no salt nor pepper at our table to put some on. My filet mignon was delicious and cooked perfectly. It was seasoned well and paired great with the mashed potatoes and asparagus. The portions on the mashed potatoes and asparagus was sad though as I think only counted like 3 asparagus and like a drop of mashed potatoes. My sister had the entrada prime and she did not like it one bit. The meat had no flavor and it was chewy. The quesadillas were disappointing and just the whole plate is a pass. The chicken salad was pretty good and my friend seemed to enjoy it. Same goes with the tacos dorados and ceviche that our other guests ate. Service could've been better but ehh it could've been that it was already later at night. We spent about $400.

Came here on a Tuesday evening (7pm) to celebrate my birthday. The place was quite empty. My fiancé and I were seated quickly. However, we were only provided a food menu. When the waiter came with water we requested a drink menu. When it was time to order drinks, we put in our food order at the same time. The food came out within an appropriate time frame. We ordered a Tomohawk steak, lobster Mac & cheese, and guacamole (came with chicharrones). Despite ordering our steak medium, it was cold. The lobster Mac & cheese was just noodles with cheese and shredded lobster on top. The guac was probably the best thing that I had ordered. It would've paired better with tortilla chips esp because the chicharrones were stale (not crunchy but soft). Despite noting on my reservation that I'm celebrating my birthday, my birthday was not acknowledged. All and all, the ambiance was nice and def Instagram video worthy but I would not return to this location. The Beverly Hills location is truly the best

If I could leave a 0 I would. TERRIBLE time. Had a reservation at 7PM and didn't get seated until about 810. When we finally do get seated there's not waitress to be found. We ask another waitress to help us out and she said she would help us but isn't our assigned waitress. We order a few drinks and apps through her. They came out in about 15 minutes. So we decide to order our meals. And by time we see the waitress again it was about 9PM. Finally decided to just cancel the food and take our date elsewhere. The whole night was Very unorganized.

Hidden on a corner in DTLA , this place was a diamond in the rough. My wife and I went for our anniversary and it was amazing. Service was great! Food was great! It was nice inside, not to dark but not to bright. Noise level was moderate. We will definitely be going back here in the future.

We usto visit the Mama Por Dios location in Beverly Hills regularly and always loved the food, service, and atmosphere. When that location closed, we decided to try the Downtown LA location for our reservation on February 15th at 7:30 PM. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we remembered. When we arrived, the restaurant was extremely loud and overcrowded. We didn't get seated until 8:10 PM, and things only went downhill from there. We immediately ordered appetizers and drinks, but by 9:00 PM, we noticed our food hadn't arrived, and the kitchen--located directly behind us--had plates of food just sitting there for over 10 minutes. People who were seated before us were still waiting for their meals. We ultimately left without receiving our food, after paying $80 for an appetizer and two drinks. Based on our experience and others' reviews, it's clear that this Mama Por Dios location needs serious attention. They should focus less on Instagram and TikTok aesthetics and more on improving the service. Offering reservations is pointless if you're going to make guests wait over 30 minutes just to be seated at cramped tables that are just inches away from others. We were really disappointed, especially since we had such great memories of the Beverly Hills location. Unfortunately, this experience has made us hesitant to return to the Downtown LA spot.
