Just What I Kneaded is my absolutely FAVORITE RESTAURANT/CAFE IN ALL OF LOS ANGELES.I live about 45 minutes away and I am here 3-4 times a week. It is worth the drive, it is worth the time, it is worth it all. The staff is phenomenally kind, welcoming, warm, and helpful. The ambiance is unparalleled. (Especially after their remodel!) it's the perfect place to connect with friends or sit and write for hours. And I haven't even gotten to the food yet....I grew up with a chef as a father and was extremely spoiled with quality food being made with love. EVERY TIME I order from here, that feeling from childhood returns. Chef Simone is a wonder and cooks with her whole heart. The collaboration happening between Justine and Simone is like witnessing masterpieces be born every day. They have crafted a menu and a flavor palette that could be put in a museum. Truly exceptional.I have eaten vegan food all over the world, but no matter where I go, I always compare it to Just What I Kneaded (and their sister restaurant Justine's Wine Bar with vegan/vegetarian pizza, pasta, and wine that opens from 4-11pm after the cafe closes). It's like that first love you compare everyone else to. No place is better. There's no where I'd rather spend a morning writing, no where I'd rather get coffee and a treat or brekkie/lunch....no where I'd rather spend money knowing Justine takes such incredible care of her team, because everyone who is there wants to be there and you can feel it. That matters. That trickles into the food. All of it contributes to the experience. The chocolate chip cookie is the best in LA period. The breakfast burrito is divine. The tomato basil galette and the quiche are my favorite savory pastries. The biscuit sandwiches are DECADENT and delightful, the pop tarts and cinnamon rolls are legendary. I mean I could go on and on. Choose this space as your next local LA experience. Keep places like this open with your presence and patronage. JWIK is a safe space for all, a community hub, and a true blessing to the Frogtown neighborhood. It truly is my favorite vegan/vegetarian place in all of Los Angeles and I will dare say the world...the multiverse? Thank you for being such a special place for all of us.

It's been a hot minute since I've been here to get my fix. Looks like they closed the walk in area to expand their kitchen. Now it's just a walk up window to order but they have a deal with the small diner next door if you'd still like to sit inside to eat. The food menu that was posted seemedthe same but I couldn't find a drink list posted. Ended up on their Yelp and requested a few drinks that apparently are no longer offered. No matcha or lavender lattes offered anymore. The EARL GREY COOKIE was a good slightly crunchy cookie on the outside but soft and chewy in the middle. Super tasty! As for my favorite CHILAQUILES BURRITO, it seemed a bit different than I remember. Maybe it's just me though. It comes in vegan and vegetarian!

perhaps the best vegan cinnamon roll i've ever had? it tastes like cinnabon (in the best way). it's supposed to be a pumpkin one but the flavor is very faint, i can see the pumpkin when i dig into it though it's also huge af, took me 3 days to finish it literally.anyway the true star of the show was the tomato basil galette (not pictured)i DEVOURED it.. and i wish i could've got a few but the cinnamon roll and the galette alone is like $20 bucks so it's definitely a treat. i also tried the egg n cheese biscuit and it was dry af but the flavor was good, should've just got the Yes Chef but i rushed myself to order because i asked for the chilaquiles bowl and apparently that's been off their menu for a while but didn't know since it was my first time and i've just been looking at their stuff online. their new concept lowkey confused me too since it's different than what it looks like on here; no building to walk into anymore, just a counter to walk up to. the absolute fail from everything that i tried was the avocado toast. very bland and dry, they need to add more things on it or something to make it worth it. there's plenty of seating outside too, they got a good lil corner

My family used to love just what I kneaded but they always messed up our orders. It was like a 75% chance they would get something wrong, from not heading our requests to leaving entire entrees out of the order, not giving us what we ordered from the pastry case and sometimes giving us burnt bread and cookies. We still went back because the food was so good but that was when it was all vegan. We stopped going when they started serving eggs, not necessarily out of protest but more out of caution. It definitely gave us the nudge to stop going there. I can see it now, they'd give eggs instead of tofu scramble. My crystal ball told me so

I didn't know what sounded good on the menu, so I decided to be safe and went with a basic avocado toast. The pastries looked cute and yummy but I didn't try. Location was deep in a neighborhood which is a very random spot to be in, but nonetheless it was a cute little spot.

Support local bakeries!! Just what I kneaded is a great neighborhood spot with chill vibes and epic pastries. Ample outdoor seating for you and your pup. Gluten free and vegan options. Friendly staff. As a sidenote, my husband ordered the sausage breakfast sandwich, and didn't realize it was vegan until he was halfway through. That's how good it is.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. The servers are so cool and kind, the food is amazing, and the ambiance is cozy and nostalgic. I try to bring as many visitors here as possible! Parking always looks a tad bit more overwhelming than it actually is...but if you bake in an extra 5-10 minutes, you should be good. I've never gotten an item here that I didn't love. My mom hates vegan food (for no reason but genx can be stubborn) but she loves the pastries and food here, particularly the biscuits. The food has a lot of flavor and variety. They rotate items so it's not the same thing everyday - I'd check their instagram for the latest. Some of my favorite baked goods are the cookies, cinnamon rolls, and quiches. The pop tarts are yummy and nostalgic and they often have really cool designs on them. In terms of the food - my favorites are the crunch wrap and biscuit sandwiches. The restaurant also has a ton of gluten free options which is nice. The gluten free pastries don't taste super plastic-y nor grainy, which is really hard to find. I couldn't love this place more - come here!!

Have been wanting to try this place for a while... and boy was it worth the 40 min drive!! Cute & quaint vegan bakery serving sweet & savory (hot & cold) treats, with friendly and efficient service.Enjoyed the LA Breakfast Burrito (without tofu scramble), Crunchwrap (without vegan sausage), GF Peach scone, and got the Tomato Basil Galette and Mango Donut to go. Everything was tasty - esp enjoyed the crunch wrap which was warm & toasty, full of flavor & perfectly prepared (without the contents falling off). Perhaps the LA breakfast Burrito would've been better with the tofu scramble.. was a tad dry without, given the crispy hash brown. Peach scone was tasty; oat cappuccino was aromatic & flavorful. We were seated in the airy outdoor patio on a hot summer day, alongside cute sparrows flying around. Had to go by the kitchen the reach the restroom, and was glad to note that the kitchen was clean and the staff were vibing to catchy music. We were so impressed by the place that we bought the quinoa-chickpea salad to go. Next time we will get that humongous, amazing-looking cinnamon roll

My friends took me here for lunch and the vegan food was very good. The service was cool and the place was cozy. I ordered the Riverside Dr burrito and a hot chocolate. This place is a hidden gem located near the Los Angeles River. The only thing I did not like, was that the silverware was out in the open where everyone was touching it. Very limited seating and the wait to get your food takes a little time.

So, this is a long and overdue review and normally, I wouldn't review if something was bad, as there's really no point to waste energy in leaving a negative review, but this is warranted after all the constant guilt-tripping by this place in response to other patrons' poor reviews. Like, it's the patrons' fault JWIK can't run their business effectively? It's the patrons' fault most of the staff is weird, cold, and rude? It's the patrons' fault they didn't receive their correct order? The responses to legit feedback are nearly always met with some belittling by the bakery's owner; there's no denying this, as it's able to be viewed by the public on both Google and Yelp. I ordered a cake from them two years ago and had to hound them to pay for it. Keep in mind, I tried ordering a cake a year before that and was just ignored via email. I had tried calling but was met with some bizarre response of, "I don't think we're doing cakes right now." When I did receive my cake, it was so beyond dry it was unbelievable. There are tons of amazing vegan spots in LA that would never degrade or diminish a patron's honest review for poor service. I'm anticipating some absurd response to this, but ya know what? Whatever.
