On this night, we had just left LAX, and needless to say we were hungry. We were actually looking for Denny's when from the side of my eye, I caught a glimpse of this place. My husband and I talked numerous times about wanting to eat here so we flipped a U turn and found a parking spot. It was later on in the evening and I believe they were getting ready to close within the next 30 minutes so we were lucky to find a parking since it looked like parking was limited. As soon as we walked in, the familiar smell of pastrami filled the air and the windows were dripping with with steam from the nonstop cooking that was going on. Our waitress was nice and pleasant and explained their menu as she brought us some thick pickles slices. We decided to share a hot pastrami sandwich with a side of fries and coleslaw. The sandwich prices were on the higher side starting at the $20.00 mark for just the sandwich but it was big enough for us to split. When our sandwich came out, it was piled high with pastrami on a soft French roll. As we took a bite of our sandwiches, we were delighted. The bread was nice and soft and the pastrami wasn't overly seasoned but it was lacking a bit of flavor so we had to squeeze some mustard onto the bread and bite into the pickle after a bite to get the extra umph from the sandwich. The fries are a basic fry and we did enjoy the coleslaw. The servings definitely were big enough for us to have leftovers minus the coleslaw since we devoured that up. For us, the pastrami was good but it wasn't Togo's pastrami but that just could be a northern California thing for me since I go as far back to the birth of Togo's number 9.What we did appreciate about Johnnies pastrami is that it's not fried on the grill to the point where the pastrami is dry and hard. Johnnies pastrami was thin and tender without tuns of fat, giving it a great chew factor. We definitely will be back to try out some of Johnnie's other items and to sit in that cute patio.

The feel of a classic diner! They had jukeboxes on every table. The portion sizes are very generous. The combo plates come with cole slaw and a whole basket of fries. Definitely get the hot pastrami on the french roll (their signature item). You can pass on the steak sandwich.

Way better than The Hat. Still not as good as pastrami restaurants back east. They have larger portions than The Hat. But they don't have anything special to offer besides the Kosher dill pickles which you can take out by the bucket. If you ignorant folks want great pastrami and Italian beef, go easy. LA has no clue how to do it right! Morons think this is great pastrami.

I was here 6 months ago and ordered my food with no problem, same thing I have been getting for years. Walked in, asked for my pastrami to be dipped, extra 2x cheese, with mustard, a chili cheese dog, fries and two drinks. I am not understanding where the hell the cook gets off doing my sandwich any ole way. I had to have it remade, bread still dry and the server began to tell me, quote; next time ask for extra, extra dip. WT, I have been to this location for many years and I have never had to say extra dip my sandwich and it be served to me dry. Customers are paying their money for how they prefer their sandwiches. Hire people who want to be cooks and who understand customer request. Our server was very professional and apologetic. The cook was horrible, poor attitude and half ass doing my sandwich, I still didn't get it how I wanted. The waitress went to get me dip in a container to go. I paid over $54.00 and was pissed, it was 45 mins to closing . The female behind the counter who took my order had the audacity to tell me make sure we tip after we decide to make our order for dine in. First of all, tipping is at the customer's discretion based on the food and service and if you haven't tip to dine in Post a Damn sign, I didn't observe no such sign. I lost my damn appetite, it was too much unprofessional conduct going on I observed. Since when do you tell customers to make sure they tip? or is it only certain nationalities? FOS service and conduct.

So good I could cry. The dipped hot pastrami is just delicious served with complimentary pickles, hot peppers and hot mustard. Reminds me of an amped up version of the Togo's sandwich I had back in college. Wonderful service and their own parking lot. Outdoor seating with fire pit is another plus.

I first went here when I was in law school. That was a long time ago. It was old when I first heard about it. They've been here since 1952. The booths and the juke boxes on the tables are from 52. I've always either eaten in the patio or got it to go. But this oozes history.I'm sure people order many things here. I don't. I always get the pastrami dip with swiss cheese. I often get the plate with extra crispy fries and cole slaw too. Sometimes just cole slaw. It's not traditional pastrami, and I know purists who eschew this place. Their loss.Music from the 50s-70s playing in the background. Making my own #17 by putting cole slaw on each bite of sandwich. Munching on crisp flavorful dill pickles. They serve ketchup for the fries with a dash of hot mustard. If this isn't heaven, i'm not sure what is.When i first came here they only took cash. That's long since gone. They don't like you using your cell phone near the order area. This is old school redux. There has only ever been one or two wait persons when i've been here. There is a busser helping out, and one or two cooks. The place is small so there's no more room. This place is L.A. and Southern California.

The absolute best pastrami sandwich ever! I asked for extra dip on the side and it was streaming hot. Old style diner with friendly waitstaff, classic jukebox, and old booths. Outside seating too with lots of plants around so make it feel cozy. Chicken felt double fried and was super crisp. Crinkle fries were crisp and hot top. Now one of my must come back to every time I go to LA places.

Johnnie Pastrami has been my favorite place to go for shaved pastrami sandwiches. It's not cheap, but they load the sandwich with heaps of tasty pastrami! I ask for extra dip on the side and spicy mustard. The fries and the onion rings are also excellent! And I typically will go through a lot of pickles too. Service is always great! They are so friendly and helpful there. There isn't a ton of seating but they make good use of the space that they have.

Original experience a few months back was great . This past Sunday I went and the older lady at the counter was extremely rude . The place was crowded so she asked us to wait outside ,which we did . 4 tables were out there and in close proximity of each other . She had the audacity to place the food on one of the tables and tell us that she's not going to bring it over to us because she's so busy when it was literally 5 extra steps! She needs to retire or find another profession her customer service skills are trash .
